This activity has now closed

From bubble bath beards to rubber ducks, bathtime for your children can be a source of laughter, excitement, and silliness even if you sometimes dread them. Persuading your child that it’s time for a bath can be infinitely easier when you have a trick up your sleeve that makes them playful and appealing. With this in mind, TOMY want to hear from you the ways your make bathtime fun for your children.

Here’s what TOMY have to say:
“Bath time is a key bonding moment for parent and child and bath toys are important during this time for exposing babies to new sensations and keeping them occupied and entertained. Knowing this, TOMY Toomies’ Mumsnet rated bath toys are designed to delight children and adults alike, featuring great water play elements, bright colours and characters, as well as classic developmental play features; championing that memories are made when laughter is shared.”

How do you make bathtime something to look forward to in your house? Do you have go-to bath toys that are a guaranteed hit with your children? Or perhaps bubble bath is enough to entertain them? Was there something that made bathtime fun when you were a child that you want to recreate for your own children? Which part (if at all) of bathtime do your children enjoy the most - the bubble bath, the toys, being in the water, or something else entirely?

Share the ways you make bathtimes for your child fun on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where 3 x MNers will be entered into a prize draw to win a £100 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

My daughter doesn’t like bubble baths, she prefers them “plain”. She loves bath bombs, soap confetti and crystals. She also likes the glow in the dark tubes that you crack to activate, it makes bathtime quiet magical

Waterproof dinosaurs, ducks and balls all get thrown about and chewed. Pouring water from a jug is also popular (and drinking it). He didn't used to like baths until I realised he liked them only on the warmest end of the expected baby bath temperature.

Toys and bubbles and then more toys and bubbles, we both have fun at bath time!

sarah861421 · 11/11/2019 15:01

old margarine tubs etc with different holes, and some child friendly music in the background

Givealittlebit · 11/11/2019 15:39

The most useful thing for us was teaching him to lie back like he's swimming when we wash his hair, and using the stacking cups that have water running out to make fun like a shower!
Also bath crayons!! All the crayons, our tiles regularly look like an art studio 😂😂

katieskatie82 · 11/11/2019 15:54

lots of bubble bath, bath toys and plastic cups and spoons so they can pretend the bubbles are ice cream!

EmilyK83 · 11/11/2019 16:38

Our Oscar likes to practise his swimming at bathtime! We also encourage splashing around - everything gets soaked, but it means he's less likely to be terrified of water, which has to be a good thing!

glynda · 11/11/2019 17:52

Lots of bubbles, fun toys and a towel close by for eyes.

Shesawinner1989 · 11/11/2019 19:43

Lots of bubbles and then more bubbles!

JC4PMPLZ · 11/11/2019 19:45

bath crayons, bubbles, frothy shampoo, lots of ducks.

Ikea1234 · 11/11/2019 20:10

Bubble bath for various fun hair styles and beards is a must, and toys that squirt water. The aim of bath time seems to be to get as much of the water out of the bath as possible!

foxessocks · 11/11/2019 20:19

My kids like any tiny bottles that we have left over from bubble baths and stuff and they just pour them in and out of bigger bottles!

helly27 · 11/11/2019 20:42

Plenty of toys and no irritation wash, shampoo and conditioner

10milewalk · 11/11/2019 21:34

Mild shampoo that won't sting their eyes, lots of bubble bath and some fun toys.

Marg2k8 · 11/11/2019 21:41

My granddaughter loves playing with different toys in the bath. Sometimes ducks, sometimes crazy soap, sometimes bubbles, balls, buckets etc.

RuleTheWorld91 · 12/11/2019 01:11

Dont wIt until they are too tired! Also, bubble beards are always a huge hit with my dd

goldenretriever1978 · 12/11/2019 05:02

My children like playing with empty bottles and putting their toys in the bath with them, not much encouragement needed to have a bath, thankfully - yet, anyway...

angiehoggett · 12/11/2019 08:40

lots of toys and encouragement, get them laughing and make it as fun as possible.

DassDass · 12/11/2019 09:56

It's all about the bubbles

theAntsareMyFriends · 12/11/2019 12:18

We throw different toys in each time or even items from the kitchen. Sometimes its spoons and a sieve, other times its plastic animals. The one thing we can't put in is cups or pans as these get used to bale the water onto the floor. Lots of fun but not so much fun for us parents when water drips into the room downstairs.

Whatever we do bath times always end up getting a bit silly and no one ever wants to come out but they are good fun too.

ErinSophia · 12/11/2019 14:29

I use colour changing bubble bath in my kids baths and bath crayons makes bath time fun

jandoc · 12/11/2019 17:15

recently we have been playing music during bath time

giddyypixie · 12/11/2019 19:57

My DC would love having bubbles and bath pens at his bath times! He would draw all over the bath for aaages!

dointhedo · 12/11/2019 20:57

Favourite bathtime activity for the last few weeks has been 'alphabet soup'. Using the foam letters and numbers, if DS4 can name them first time, they get chucked into the bath.

Also have great fun doing handprints and drawing pictures in the steam on the shower screen.

For extra fun/mild peril, we put 7 month old DD in there in her bath seat too.

OnTheEdgeOfTheNight · 12/11/2019 21:09

We found that stacking cups with holes in the bottom, a watering can, and one of those rainmaker toys (one designed for water) and those plastic bath books were favourites. Empty bottles can be great too. Some bath toys are difficult to empty - the squeezy animals seem great, but invariably get mouldy inside, even when they're cleaned with bleach.
One of the great things about bathtime is if it's not rushed. Everything's ready, towels and pyjamas are warming nicely while the little one is in the bath.
