From bubble bath beards to rubber ducks, bathtime for your children can be a source of laughter, excitement, and silliness even if you sometimes dread them. Persuading your child that it’s time for a bath can be infinitely easier when you have a trick up your sleeve that makes them playful and appealing. With this in mind, TOMY want to hear from you the ways your make bathtime fun for your children.

Here’s what TOMY have to say:
“Bath time is a key bonding moment for parent and child and bath toys are important during this time for exposing babies to new sensations and keeping them occupied and entertained. Knowing this, TOMY Toomies’ Mumsnet rated bath toys are designed to delight children and adults alike, featuring great water play elements, bright colours and characters, as well as classic developmental play features; championing that memories are made when laughter is shared.”

How do you make bathtime something to look forward to in your house? Do you have go-to bath toys that are a guaranteed hit with your children? Or perhaps bubble bath is enough to entertain them? Was there something that made bathtime fun when you were a child that you want to recreate for your own children? Which part (if at all) of bathtime do your children enjoy the most - the bubble bath, the toys, being in the water, or something else entirely?

Share the ways you make bathtimes for your child fun on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where 3 x MNers will be entered into a prize draw to win a £100 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

How do you make bathtime something to look forward to in your house?

A warm bathroom with a fluffy towel on the heated radiator.

Do you have go-to bath toys that are a guaranteed hit with your children? Or perhaps bubble bath is enough to entertain them?

We have pouring toys which we pour into a waterwheel, and bubble bath, I will have a bathbomb on occasions - weekend usually to entertain.

Was there something that made bathtime fun when you were a child that you want to recreate for your own children?

Bathtime was not fun really - that I can recall - I can just remember feeling cold - which I why I have a heated towel rail in my bathroom

Which part (if at all) of bathtime do your children enjoy the most - the bubble bath, the toys, being in the water, or something else entirely?

They enjoy whisking the water up to make bubbles and have lots of make believe games and competitions on who can make the most.

Letters that stick on the side of the bath.

Bubbles were a big hit for dc1, but dc2's skin is too sensitive.

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 02/11/2019 09:45

Oh and singing songs in the bath!

Constantbronchitislaryngitis · 02/11/2019 10:08

Love some of the mums replies! They’re fab!
My 5 year old has a snorkel and mask and we put different things in the bath for her to find
Obviously always around so it’s not dangerous before I get slated 😉😊

IWouldBeSuperb · 02/11/2019 10:35

Very sensitive skin here so no bubbles unfortunately, but she loves pouring cups and jugs - and bathtime songs performed by Mr Rubber Duck Grin

How do you make bathtime something to look forward to in your house?

we love our Toomies Hide & Squeak Bath Squirters - so they make bathtime something to look forward to.

Do you have go-to bath toys that are a guaranteed hit with your children? Or perhaps bubble bath is enough to entertain them?

My go to toy for a long bathtime and lots of play is the TOMY Toomies Peryn's Shower & Scrub Penguin Baby Bath Toy,

Was there something that made bathtime fun when you were a child that you want to recreate for your own children?

I remember my duck family, mum dad and 2 ducklings

Which part (if at all) of bathtime do your children enjoy the most - the bubble bath, the toys, being in the water, or something else entirely?

The squirting - I am often soaked after bathtime - they find it hilarious to squirt my glasses

blackleggingsandatshirt · 02/11/2019 12:59

Since my 2 year old got a Toomies Octopals colourful floating bath island toy - he gets his duck towel ready for his nightly bath - he loves bathtime and with a good squirt of baby bath and lots of bubbles it's a great way to unwind before bed.

Our 27 month old has always had a nightly bath as he's a mucky pup. He loves it. Loves helping with the bubbles, washing, playing with plastic cups and buckets, and dunking his head under shouting "massive dunks"!! Grin

My little girl likes jugs / watering cans and bath books. She also loves a good splash! And of course lots and lots of bubbles

Byrdie · 02/11/2019 22:09

My girls love to take those lol surprise dolls into the bath with them. Some change colour in heat so it's a bit of a game to see if they do. Also, special toiletries like foam soaps or bath bomb convince my reluctant 11 year old into a bath!

mamanatural · 02/11/2019 23:27

In our house bath time is time to relax, this means low light, fairy lights, lots of smelly bubbles and cups and sieves to play with

Dangermouse80 · 02/11/2019 23:43

Cups and jugs for pouring are always good. For xmas / birthdays some bath foam sprays are always included. Generally we all like bath times as they get to play whilst getting clean.

showmewhatyougot · 03/11/2019 07:26

My son loves a disco bath, we turn the lights off and pop some music on, have glowing duckies and glow sticks in the tub! It's his fav treat :)

Sugarhouse · 03/11/2019 08:54

Lots of bubbles and bath toys my son loves his octopals

PickledChicory · 03/11/2019 16:51

Bathtime is so important to me and the dc. I work fulltime so this is a precious time we have together. I love simple toys that squirt or pour water. We sing songs, row row your boat ect. Pouring toys are great as they help rinse hair.

munchbunch12 · 03/11/2019 17:02

Another vote for jugs and bubbles. We sometimes used to pretend we're baking a cake and put all the 'ingredients' into the jug (just water and bubbles really) and stir them up with our hand, then put them in the oven (jug on bathmat) then I take the cake out ands we admire our handiwork. Both DS and DD loved that whgen they were little.

BeefTomato · 03/11/2019 18:49

I have been known to dump ball pool balls into the bath to make it more fun!

kateandme · 04/11/2019 01:16

bath time is special here.from the very first moment we go up and play on the floor whilst the bath is running.its part of our bonding and a treasured time.
when we were little we used to be the same.bathtime was part of family time.and getting cuddly as we put everything into slow down as it was the wind down to bed.
we play with snorkles, goggles.and like me and my brother when we were little play memaids with flannels!
radox is still a favourite bubble maker too and it takes me right back to my childhood.
they love the boats and ducks.and just having a plastic cup to fill and pour and fill and pour about.
one thing we deffinital passed down is the after bath wrap up.when we got out the bath the towel was laid on the floor(biiig white towels.)and we would be bundled up like a stork would it package and carried out.we do this now.and they giggle and scream as much as we did.
the bit they enjoy is being with us.performing with and too us.and sometimes just sitting with us whilst we read a book and they play.

pushchairprincess · 04/11/2019 11:17

I am really careful with my bath toys, we have lots of squirty toys, ducks, hide & squeak bath squirters, I make sure they are cleaned in a milton solution once a month to prevent bacteria build up.
So it shower curtain on, squirters in, swimming goggles on, lots of bubble bath, a warm bathroom with a fluffy towel waiting on the radiator, and a lots of laughter.

fishnships · 04/11/2019 18:25

We got a water pump which the DC's loved - just a small, plastic one but it provided hours of fun!

Ratbagcatbag · 04/11/2019 20:13

My DD now aged 6 likes making "potions" so I've had to shift my expensive shampoo.

She loves picking a nice bath bomb and then watching it dissolve. I also keeps a couple cheapish bottles of bubble bath/shower gels for the potion making, it means she's squeaky clean and leaves my shampoo alone.

mapleleafshiba · 04/11/2019 20:46

Goggles have provided hours of fun, as have playing with kitchen utensils when we stay with my parents ! Goodness, the hours of fun they've had with a few plastic pots and spoons in a bath there, it makes me wonder why I ever bought any other bath toys!

realmumreviews · 04/11/2019 22:15

In this house we have a few bathtime essentials - firstly bubble bath is an absolute must - do not underestimate the power of father christmas style beards to raise some laughter and encourage them to wash and clean their mucky faces!
As my two share a bath, they also love anything that creates splashes, shoots of water or waves - we have the Tomy Toomies Bathtime Rocket, which not only provides a fun toy to entertain them, but is a quick and fun way to rinse off the bubbles when we're done - a practical gadget disguised as playtime fun!
