From bubble bath beards to rubber ducks, bathtime for your children can be a source of laughter, excitement, and silliness even if you sometimes dread them. Persuading your child that it’s time for a bath can be infinitely easier when you have a trick up your sleeve that makes them playful and appealing. With this in mind, TOMY want to hear from you the ways your make bathtime fun for your children.

Here’s what TOMY have to say:
“Bath time is a key bonding moment for parent and child and bath toys are important during this time for exposing babies to new sensations and keeping them occupied and entertained. Knowing this, TOMY Toomies’ Mumsnet rated bath toys are designed to delight children and adults alike, featuring great water play elements, bright colours and characters, as well as classic developmental play features; championing that memories are made when laughter is shared.”

How do you make bathtime something to look forward to in your house? Do you have go-to bath toys that are a guaranteed hit with your children? Or perhaps bubble bath is enough to entertain them? Was there something that made bathtime fun when you were a child that you want to recreate for your own children? Which part (if at all) of bathtime do your children enjoy the most - the bubble bath, the toys, being in the water, or something else entirely?

Share the ways you make bathtimes for your child fun on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where 3 x MNers will be entered into a prize draw to win a £100 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

My DD loves me blowing huge bubbles off her hand, and she loves looking at shampoo bottles for some reason! She mainly likes to splash me while I cower and she roars with laugher Grin

Anyoneever · 05/11/2019 06:41

Aside from a bag of special bath time
toys, my son loves playing with plastic bottles and jugs of different sizes and fishing from sequins with a tea strainer.

misskatamari · 05/11/2019 08:16

Mine adore lots of bubbles. We don't buy bath toys anymore tho, as they always just end up going manky, so we use empty bottles, plastic containers etc and the kids love playing with them. Along with some old mega blocks which they pretend are cups and ice cream cones

Iamthemotherofdragons · 05/11/2019 10:03

We love having a tea party with a little tea set and some happy land characters. My daughters also enjoy using foam letters to make words for each other to read.

nervousfirsttimer1985 · 05/11/2019 18:38

Ever since she was little my DD has loved a bath. We have lots of bubbles and make sure the house is nice and cosy. We change the toys that we have. Some days it is just a bowl to pour the water. Other days it is a watering can. She also has a bath book that she enjoys to read. She also enjoys just splashing the water around. We do have some bath toy sets that she enjoys too.

Thirder · 05/11/2019 22:55

The letters that stick to the tiles or inside a bath. They were brilliant. My eldest learnt most his letters from them.
My middle child didn't get the same experience later on, as my eldest had stuck all the "l" s into shampoo bottles. A bit like all hand me downs', poor guy.

Would love to replace those letters for dc3, if anyone knows where to get them. Think original set were Wilkinsons.

Also, bath water dye is good fun. Doesn't make the children green, just the bathwater. Looks vile, like a pond Grin

defineme · 06/11/2019 06:28

Lots of bubble bath and when they got older they loved foam letters that stuck to the wall

TellMeItsNotTrue · 06/11/2019 13:11

I made sure to start them off at the swimming pool early on, so they aren't bothered about getting water on their face unlike me

When they were very young we would have nursery rhyme CD on or just me singing them, as they got older toys were introduced and as they got even older I would give them choices of bubble bath, toys, big bath or little bath (amount of water) etc so they feel in control

Bubble bath and a collection of empty soap dispenser/ shampoo bottles to squirt water from. It’s harder to get my kids out of the bath than in to it!!

ivfbabymomma1 · 06/11/2019 19:19

Bathtime calming Johnson's bubble bath, night cream & I have some mood lighting in the bathroom. Followed by bottle and some calming music. Works for my bub anyway!

IceBearRocks · 06/11/2019 21:07

My children are 8, 10 and 12 ...they still live bath toys. Our 10 year old only functions at 24-36 months and he loves wet play! He has a submarine that showers water that is his favourite and an Icecream maker too.....all 3 kida play with them though

tillymint21 · 06/11/2019 23:51

Squirty toys and lots of bubbles are always a winner. Also empty plastic bottles of different sizes go down really well for concentrated fun in the bath.

Hanster85 · 07/11/2019 08:35

My 10m old LO loves her baths & has one every night before bed! She has just gone into the big bath & loves how much space she has.

I always put some lavender essential oils & some bubbles in her bath. We have a tommee tippee thermometer that keeps an eye on the temperature!

She has octopals that she squeezes, chews and sticks to the side of the bath & a watering can that she likes to look at.

I use Johnson's lavender bed time wash & then wrestle with her to get her teeth brushed Grin!

We love bath time, I talk to her about what we have done that day, talk about her toys & spend some time chilling out before bedtime!

hariboismydrug · 07/11/2019 12:47

Water pistols and bubbles the more the merrier x who can't laugh along with a child with bubbles on their head and a bubble beard lol

emphasisofmatter · 07/11/2019 16:08

Lots of different bath toys and varying them/ getting new ones every now and again too. We've got some jugs and back scrubber and they like to do stirring and pretend they are making cakes in the bath. We also have bath time finger puppets who I, ahem, really enjoy, ahem, singing long songs with like 5 speckled frogs 🐸

Moraxella · 07/11/2019 16:15

Turning the underfloor heating on to warm the towels after 👀

ItsJustASimpleLine · 07/11/2019 16:27

We like bubbles and lights.

My son is obsessed with ducks so we have light up ducks for him and a little disco light up disc for my daughter. We turn them on and turn off the lights and find the bath with bubbles.

My 1yr old particularly loves.pouring water from one cup to another so would always recommend toys like that for little ones.

MyRaGaiaStarFishPieA · 07/11/2019 18:29

My kids are all grown up now but they loved having a disco bath. Lots of bubble bath and low lighting with glow sticks in the water. We would have music in the background and a bubble machine going too with strawberry scented bubble mix. They LOVED it ❤️

Bearfrills · 07/11/2019 19:43

My four would live in the bath if I let them! I keep telling them they'll keep getting more and more prune-like until they wrinkle away to nothing and vanish down the plughole but it doesn't bother them, they love the bath.

We have quiet bath times where I put a few drops of lavender oil in the water, calming music on Alexa, and low lighting to help them relax after a long day.

We have loud, splashy, giggly bath times where they have every single toy in the water, bubbles, singing, swimming, making waves, and silly games.

We have bath times that are somewhere in between the two.

They love a disco bath with flashing ducks, a disco lightbulb, and glow sticks.

Their favourite toys are bath squirters, a water wheel, cups with sprinkler holes in the bottom of them, a mermaid-pony and half a dozen robo-fish that swim around the bath, a toy teapot and a toy watering can.

Their favourite game when they have bubbles is called 'Snow'. You scoop up a double handful of bubbles, lean in close, and blow as hard as you can. It turns the bubbles into little flakes that fly around like snow. My 2yo thinks it's hilarious but hasn't quite got the knack of blowing the bubbles without first taking an accidental taste of them and ending up with a bubble moustache and beard.

mountainofdreams · 07/11/2019 20:08

My daughter loves a bubble bath and bath paint. Her favourite bath toys are foam letters and Tomy Toomies Hair Salon.

DecomposingDurannie · 07/11/2019 20:43

Silly songs: " It's bath time, Dooby de doo" and "Daredevil Duckie"

Shaving foam type soap.

Lots of toys. DS had a favourite hammerhead shark from Finding Nemo...unfortunately he was called "Anchor" which in DS's toddler voice sounded like it had a W at the beginning 🙀

Jenpop234 · 07/11/2019 21:23

Definitely get them used to having water on their face young! And have a phrase that you say before you pour water on them to rinse! We say NAME, ready splash! So he knows it's coming.

Tillygetsit · 07/11/2019 22:48

Lots of raucous singing of Three Little Fishes. Bloop bloop bidum bodum wadum choo! It distracted my bath phobic dd1 beautifully.

StickChildNumberTwo · 07/11/2019 23:12

Bath crayons! Lots of fun.

Maxbenji · 08/11/2019 06:17

Singing, bubbles, giggles and lots of splashing!
