sarahm1234 · 26/10/2019 22:25

Using Gaviscon was the only thing that helped me when pregnant

pfcpompeysarah · 26/10/2019 22:30

Avoid eating late a night, as well as fatty foods and alcohol. I try to drink water frequently and if I do get a touch of heartburn I find apple cider vinegar works to get rid of it.

Minnibix · 26/10/2019 22:51

Don't eat anything at least 3 hours before bed, and chew a piece of chewing gum after each meal it keeps the saliva going and that is a natural suppressant. If you drink coffee change to decaf it really helped me, and drink plenty of water

Pin down what foods lead to heartburn and avoid them

giddyypixie · 27/10/2019 00:15

This is a really interesting read as I go through stages of suffering with heart burn terribly! I find that a glass of milk helps if it's not to bad but otherwise I just cant seem to beat it!

glennamy · 27/10/2019 00:36

Avoid fatty food late at night... Sleep on side...

mickaul232 · 27/10/2019 05:49

Eat in a heartburn-smart way. Large meals put pressure on the muscle that normally helps keep stomach contents from backing up into the esophagus. The more you eat, the longer it takes for the stomach to empty, which contributes to reflux. Try smaller, more frequent meals — and don't wolf down your food.

Heartburn during pregnancy - I coped by eating smaller meals, drinking peppermint tea and being propped up with pillows. My own mother suffered constantly throughout her life. Don't seem to have inherited that at least. I've used Gaviscon peppermint tablets before.

Blobski1 · 27/10/2019 06:32

Peppermint oil tablets, once a day between food, all tummy troubles gone within few days.

vonniebab2 · 27/10/2019 07:21

I have suffered with heartburn for just over a year investigations came back clear. I have kept a food diary this has helped a lot, I avoid wine chips milk and fatty foods they seem to kickstart the reflux. I take gaviscon advance and ranitidine they help I alway take a supply with me whenever I go out just in case!

LeeR1985 · 27/10/2019 08:22

I found using gaviscon or rennie helped and drinking lots of water

xcxcsophiexcxc · 27/10/2019 08:51

I had heartburn in the later stages of my pregnancy. I sat up right and drank milk and chewed gum to relieve symptoms and ofc had rennie.

phillie1 · 27/10/2019 09:09

Milk works for me, sipped very slowly for 10 mins or so

LaaMoii · 27/10/2019 09:52

Drinking milk seems to help me

Azzizam · 27/10/2019 10:03

Take Nexium! It's a fabulous product which has saved me from misery. I buy it and no longer take the prescription of lansoprazole which I find only works 80%.

ExhaustedGrinch · 27/10/2019 10:30

Changing your posture to an upright position is helpful but honestly I think over the counter medicines are amazing at treating heartburn and that's what I always recommend.

beckyinman · 27/10/2019 10:39

Prevention is the best method!

sor5 · 27/10/2019 11:22

Eat slow, sit up right after the meal.

feefeegabor · 27/10/2019 11:38

Gaviscon is the only thing that works for me. It really does work!

Theimpossiblegirl · 27/10/2019 11:45

Dh suffers from heartburn. Apples would always set it off, oddly enough. So avoid apples (& scrumpy).
A walk after a meal also helps, as does not overeating.

ljbrad · 27/10/2019 11:47

sleep propped up at night! have Gaviscon handy for if needed!

lhlee62 · 27/10/2019 12:05

I used omeprazole and it worked like a dream, Gaviscon just didn't touch it when I was pregnant.

brownhandbag · 27/10/2019 12:36

peppermint tea works for me!

lindagill · 27/10/2019 13:11

seek medical opinion first...I have a hiatus hernia, which gave me heartburn...so check with gp first
