“Around 80% of all pregnant women suffer from heartburn by the third trimester, therefore finding ways to deal with it is important during pregnancy. Gaviscon Advance range is indicated for use during pregnancy, in addition it isn’t absorbed into your bloodstream to work. Gaviscon advance works by forming a protective barrier on top of the stomach contents which helps prevent the acid rising into your food pipe.
Medicines can affect the unborn baby. Always talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking any medicine in pregnancy.
Gaviscon Advance Tablets and Oral Suspensions. For heartburn and indigestion. Always read the label. RB-M-00995”

Reduce sugar intake. And eat lots of bananas

legfaced · 28/10/2019 13:31

pregnancy heartburn = swigging gaviscon from the bottle....

helly27 · 28/10/2019 13:35

I just avoid the triggers which for me are hot and cold food together and onions

keshimonster1 · 28/10/2019 14:40

Cut back on the cake, crisps and high fat foods. I find Rochester Ginger drink is very good to treat temporarily.

patchysmum · 28/10/2019 21:07

Find out your triggers and cut them out of your diet. I found pastry and fresh Orange juice set mine off. It is a good idea to prop your bed up with a couple of books so your top half is elevated. A lot of heartburn problems stop after pregnancy but if they don't loosing a bit of weight and wearing loose clothing around your waist can help.

UnimpressorOfCocks · 29/10/2019 08:35

Swigged it straight from the bottle when I was pregnant. it was brilliant and really worked.

mave · 29/10/2019 08:51

Milk and rennies!

mynellie · 29/10/2019 10:43

We have found that we get heartburn from spicy food as well as fatty foods so we avoid these mostly but if we do indulge i always have a bottle of gaviscon for the husband and the chew tablets for me as i don't like the consistency of the liquid

Whitecandle · 29/10/2019 12:31

My little boy suffers from reflux. On the advise of doctor's and consultants we tried most medications going - nothing worked.

Until we tried gaviscon.

I give two infant gaviscon sachets in each of my sons bottles. This teamed with when lying down, lying on his left side helps as the entrance to the stomach is on the right, therefore the acid can't travel up the esophagus.

jwhite220893 · 29/10/2019 12:35

Honestly Gaviscon sorts out for me every time!

vickyg88 · 29/10/2019 14:54

Don't eat late! I always tend to get heartburn when I go to bed not long after eating. It's awful to wake up with heartburn.
I now make sure I sit upright after eating (no lying down on the sofa lol) and give it a good few hours before getting in bed. It has helped me not get it so much.

angiehoggett · 29/10/2019 16:52

I always think that if you rush meals you are more prone to heartburn - so slow down!

cheekychicken24 · 29/10/2019 18:58

I'm on lanoprazole, as heartburn & inflamed tummy lining is a side effect of my pain med, but even so I get regular bouts of heartburn.

It sounds obvious, but eat slowly! One of my biggest triggers is rushing my food, or eating at my desk.

Put everything else down while you're eating, & allow time for your meal.

BL0SS0M · 29/10/2019 19:41

I had terrible heartburn throughout my pregnancies! Best thing for me that worked was to use lots of pillows for support when trying to sleep and sip milk if it’s really bad

mishknight · 29/10/2019 21:23

eating little but often, rather than big meals

tinkertink2010 · 30/10/2019 09:44

I find lying on my side helps along with Gaviscon.

southernsun · 30/10/2019 13:16

Milk and avoiding vodka for me!

Maiyakat · 30/10/2019 21:20

Propping yourself up at night - either with pillows or putting something under the mattress

littlemonkeyz · 31/10/2019 16:31

I only had heartburn when pregnant. I just avoided spicy foods and caffeine, ate small meals and took Gaviscon which seemed to do the trick for me.

WombleishofTheThighs · 31/10/2019 17:44

Can I just say that fatty foods are not a universal trigger? (Not interested in the competition!)

Pre-gallbladder removal I ate low carb/high fat. I was eating something like 75% fat and, apart from losing a huge amount of weight in about 9 months, I stopped getting heartburn almost overnight - it was like a miracle! The rapid weigh loss probably caused the gallstones, too, which is another story Grin

Post-gallbladder removal (and giving up the low carb diet, as it was too restrictive) I've had heartburn practically every night. I believe it is carbs, specifically sugar, which causes my heartburn. Bananas are particularly bad.

I can literally only sleep when I'm lying flat and using two pillows hurts my neck. I've found that Ranitidine no longer works for me, which is an arseache, as it's lovely and cheap and I've even had as many as 3 a night. I'm going to give Gaviscon a try. Which I suppose is the point of this advert thread Wink

HelenSw4les · 31/10/2019 18:35

I never used to suffer from heartburn but it's been awful these past 8 months or so, even when I was pregnant I didn't suffer but feel for those who have. I try to limit my use of Gaviscon (mainly due to the cost) for those times when it is really bad and take small sips of milk to ease it at other times which does help.

paradoxuk · 31/10/2019 20:20

I just use Gavison advance and it always helps.

alem17 · 31/10/2019 22:57

Drink herbal tea
