Gaviscon advance works by forming a protective barrier on top of the stomach contents which helps prevent the acid rising into your food pipe.
Medicines can affect the unborn baby. Always talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking any medicine in pregnancy.

Glass of milk and mints seemed to help

cocochips · 26/10/2019 11:22

Avoid fatty food, sleep on your side and drink plenty of water

ricola1 · 26/10/2019 11:54

I eat my dinner before 6pm and I find eating cucumber helps

Yaracuy · 26/10/2019 11:54

I seem to only get it when I'm asleep. When it comes wakes me up in real pain, so much so that the first time it happened I thought I was having a heart attach. From there I learn to belch my heart out until it went, that's if I am home of course, otherwise I always have a small bottle of Gaviscon handy in my suit case.

Gave up drinking gin & tonic ok now

SandAndSeals · 26/10/2019 12:15

Definitely try to avoid in the first place tends to best for me. Curries are a killer, so I try to steer clear. If it happens, I usually sip some milk

iut044 · 26/10/2019 12:19

Eat slowly and avoid spicy food helps prevent if for me.

flamingtoaster · 26/10/2019 12:48

Things I found which helped: Eat a stick of celery last thing at night. Sleep on left side with extra pillows. Do breathing exercises to reduce stress. Avoid very acidic or spicy foods.

EmNix · 26/10/2019 12:55

Sleeping propped up, reduce eating too much fatty foods and citrus drinks. Warm milk helps. Gaviscon also helps.
When it got really bad omeprazole was prescribed and helped.

I suffered terrible heartburn throughout my pregnancy. I’d take Gaviscon before I ate and before I went to bed.

I found propping myself up in bed helped and not eating to close to going to bed 😀

Ethan260908 · 26/10/2019 12:57

I echo many of the comments above of MMer's, but both milk and Gaviscon worked for me, thankfully I don't seem to suffer anywhere near as bad as some people do on here

flowerpot2000 · 26/10/2019 13:06

my tips for dealing with heartburn are to avoid eating heavy carb /meat loaded meals for evening meal or eat before 6pm I also recommend drinking plenty of fluids especially coconut water aswell as adding more fruit and veg to your diet

ang65t · 26/10/2019 13:09

I avoid acidic drinks, but a Rennie usually does the trick but in all fairness when I was pregnant I just persevered with it, soon went when baby was born.

happysouls · 26/10/2019 13:21

Certain foods set it off for me so I mostly cut them out. I take time out to eat meals slowly...mindful chewing! I think that helps alot.

RACHELSMITH45 · 26/10/2019 14:12

I had lots of water which helped in pregnancy. Cold milk was great too.

Mitcholiver · 26/10/2019 14:16

I got so much heartburn when I was pregnant it's so uncomfortable. I had to eat really small meals and not past 6 PM otherwise I would be up with it all night. I was told to drink milk which did help but didn't stop it.

gd2011 · 26/10/2019 14:59

Peppermint tea or liquorice tea

star1000 · 26/10/2019 15:06

Eat slowly, sitting down and only have small amounts of food regularly rather than a large meal.

GloriaG0 · 26/10/2019 16:01

I find that drinking milk works just as well as anything else.

alabaster002 · 26/10/2019 16:03

Under 30 seconds with my GP. Him: "Have you put on weight recently", Me: "Yes". Him: "Lose it and you'll be fine". And he was right!

Helsbells68 · 26/10/2019 16:06

Drinking some milk settles it most times

socat · 26/10/2019 16:32

Try to prevent in first place (avoid certain foods and time of eating) and should occur chew a tablet.

sezz35 · 26/10/2019 17:09

I find that milk helps and I avoid fried foods.

sm2012 · 26/10/2019 17:14

Had terrible heartburn each time I was pregnant, Gavison really helped me and kept me sane! It helps to sit up and I found gentle circular motions also helped to soothe it.

pennwood · 26/10/2019 17:14

Don't wear tight clothing if you suffer with heartburn and avoid spicy, acidic, or fatty type foods. Try to improve posture, and if you are lying down stand up for a short while. I only had it for a short while whilst pregnant, thank goodness, but I found this advice the midwife gave helped.
