This activity is now closed

As some of you will know we had a lively discussion last week around our new quest (along with generous prize-donors Silent Pool Gin) to spread some joy by asking you to nominate the MNer who you think most deserves a treat this week (you can read the thread here if you, er, must).

We’ve made a few changes following your suggestions and we’ve cleared up a bit of confusion too (not least here at MNHQ) and we thought we’d start a spanking new nominations thread so that everything is nice and tidy. Fear not, all your nominations from the previous thread were included in the prize draw for last week or will still be included in this week’s draw.

So, to reiterate: to tie in with their new #FortheSpirited campaign, Silent Pool Gin is on a quest to unearth the UK’s most spirited characters – and the search starts right here. For two months, the award-winning distillers will be asking you to nominate the users who you think encapsulate the spirit of Mumsnet - whether that’s entertainment, wise advice, steadfastness, kindness or appallingly rude jokes. They'll be giving one bottle of gin per week to a winning Mumsnet user, and so following on from last week’s thread, we’d like you to continue nominating the users you think deserve a treat. In addition, if your nominee wins, you'll also receive a shopping voucher worth £30.

Here’s what Silent Pool Gin have to say:
“It represents our independent mindset and our uncompromising commitment to producing an exceptional gin with a refreshingly individual character, something we’re able to achieve through our unique four-stage distilling process - find out more about this here.

For the spirited is about following your own path. It’s about doing something kind, inspiring, creative, different. It could be finally handing in your notice, booking that round-the-world trip, starting that new Japanese course or even just deciding to make your very first post on AIBU.

Whatever your version of ‘spirited' is, we applaud you. However, applause only gets you so far, so to officially recognise the wonderful spirit of the Mumsnet community, we are launching the Silent Pool Gin For the Spirited award.
Also we’d love to hear your spirited stories so please tag us in at #forthespirited @silentpoolgin

Simply nominate a Mumsnet user for the #FortheSpirited award on the discussion thread and they'll be in with a chance of winning the prize of a bottle of gin (or a rather fab Silent Pool candle if they’d prefer something free of booze). In turn, if your nominee wins, you'll also receive a £30 voucher. Win, win (gin) Gin. We’ll be running the next prize draw on Monday, 29th July.

Thanks and good luck!

MNHQ

Terms and conditions of prize draw:
Activity specific T&Cs: Mumsnet will run a random prize draw once per week. The nominees within the winning entries will be contacted via email or PM to inform them of the win, and to ask if they would like to receive the prize. A non-alcoholic prize will also be available if desired. To receive an alcoholic prize, nominees will need to provide a copy of photographic ID to Mumsnet (eg a photograph of a passport or driving licence), as well as a physical name and address for the prize to be dispatched to. The name and address will be shared with Silent Pool Gin, with the user's permission. Mumsnet will dispose of this information within one week of users' receipt of the prize. Posters of the winning entries will be emailed by Mumsnet to inform them of the win, and to give them the opportunity to choose the voucher they would like. Their name and email address, with the user's permission, will be shared with Mumsnet's voucher fulfilment company for the purposes of ordering the voucher. Voucher winner's details will be retained for audit purposes. Winner's details will be used for the purpose of the prize draw and prize delivery only, and not for any other marketing purpose. Standard Mumsnet Insight T&Cs can be found here.

I would like to nominate @Reastie again because so much work goes in to the Christmas threads each year but Reastie is always there to step up to running the threads Xmas Smile even down to organising a separate referrals thread when referrals started to clog up the main threads Xmas Smile

They really help a lot of us with budgeting, getting more for our money, ideas for difficult people to buy for and are just generally nice to be a part of,
and none of this would happen if it wasn't for @Reastie Xmas Smile

I would like to nominate Somuch who spends so much time making the wonderful playmobile scenes to amuse and enchant total strangers on the Internet. She is amazing, I don't do half as much to entertain my own nearest and dearest (insert guilt emoticon)

SoMuchToBits · 05/09/2019 00:19

Oh crikey, @viques, I do all the Playmobil stuff for my own enjoyment (and hope others enjoy it too). Never expected to get nominated for this! Shock

But thank you!

AbbiCMumsnet · 05/09/2019 12:15

Congratulations to last weeks winners @MaidenMotherCrone, who nominated @PigletJohn "because he is so very helpful, kind and knowledgable about all things you'd normally have to pay someone to come and have a look at for you.
Thank you PigletJohn!"

Thanks for all your nominations so far!

MaidenMotherCrone · 05/09/2019 12:48

Thank you so much and I'm so pleased for @PigletJohn.

PigletJohn · 05/09/2019 14:06

Thank you, that's very kind. I'm actually rather touched.

I think I am the biggest gin drinker on MN (thanks to DS!) and need it to give sage advice so will nominate myself Gin. Cheers everyone!

DishingOutDone · 07/09/2019 23:27

Its got to be awesmum incredibly brave lady posting on Relationships who has made an amazing journey to freedom and who is now involved in supporting other MNetters in abusive relationships. Awesmum has gone from being terrified and fighting to keep her DD to working with Crisis on a campaign to change the way women fleeing coercion are treated by local authorities in England. Surely a shining example to us all.

TellMeItsNotTrue · 08/09/2019 13:14

I'd like to nominate @DifficultSituation19 again for -
bringing happiness to MN with her adorable hamster pictures 😍 HERE for anyone who's missed it
Saving hamsters, even when it means giving up half of her house and all of her £ 😂😍
Giving them the best life a hamster could have! 😍😍😍
and for being an all-round good egg !

With her house up the wall and overrun with hamsters and cages, I'm sure she could do with the Gin Grin

2girlsandagap · 08/09/2019 15:42

@awesmum not only is she navigating ending a coercive relationship with grace, she’s using her experiences to lobby for additional resources for those still suffering and advocating for others.

BeUpStanding · 09/09/2019 22:27

Another vote here for awesmum

AbbiCMumsnet · 10/09/2019 11:31

Congratulations to @jamaisjedors who was nominated by @cinders15 "for her courage and strength, on behalf of her followers for so many months. She continues to update on her life and situation no matter what, and she has been an inspiration to those in similar circumstances. Brava Jamais!"

jamaisjedors · 11/09/2019 09:01

Wow, thanks so much, Blush !

I feel like the gin should be going to all the amazing posters who cheered me on and helped me exit my emotionally abusive relationship and through the scary twists and turns my life has taken since then.

I will be raising a glass to you all when I drink it (any tips on what to mix it with, I'm more of a beer drinker usually!).

cinders15 · 11/09/2019 09:12

You deserve it Jamais!!
Enjoy Thanks!!

midcenturylegs · 11/09/2019 12:57

I'd love to nominate @jesuispriest for generally being hilarious but also incredibly supportive to everyone on "the" dating thread.. I've not been on that for a while (just lurking!) but some of her advice has been awesome.

ScreamingLadySutch · 11/09/2019 16:32

I would like to nominate @Onitlikeacarbonnet for her courage and tenacity in the face of unrelenting abuse, and for continuing to be a good mother.

I see others have also nominated her, but that she stays calm and supportive of her children in the face of such provocation is a real role model for other stressed and harried women.

onitlikeacarbonnet · 11/09/2019 18:15

Thank you for the nomination ScreamingLadySutch.
And belated thanks also to Apileofballyhoo.
Gin would be very much appreciated right about now. I’ve just finished the last of what I have; with the intention of maybe hitting LCB over the head with it when I see him at court in a couple of weeks Grin.

LellyMcKelly · 11/09/2019 22:05

I’d like to nominate @Anyfucker because she speaks more sense than the rest of put together in about a tenth of the words!

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 11/09/2019 22:15

I nominate AttilatheMeerkat for her fabulous, insightful and never judging relationships advice.

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 11/09/2019 22:18

PS, @MNHQ any chance of pinning a list of previous winners to the top of each page? Otherwise some well-deserving MNers might be in need of a detox!

AlmostAJillSandwich · 12/09/2019 00:22

GirlOnIt seems like she could use a pick me up

MrsFrTedCrilly · 13/09/2019 19:36

I’d like to nominate @DadDadDad for services to the long running Archers thread.

fatfluffycushion · 13/09/2019 20:37

KnottyAndPistey · 14/09/2019 16:13
