This activity is now closed

As some of you will know we had a lively discussion last week around our new quest (along with generous prize-donors Silent Pool Gin) to spread some joy by asking you to nominate the MNer who you think most deserves a treat this week (you can read the thread here if you, er, must).

We’ve made a few changes following your suggestions and we’ve cleared up a bit of confusion too (not least here at MNHQ) and we thought we’d start a spanking new nominations thread so that everything is nice and tidy. Fear not, all your nominations from the previous thread were included in the prize draw for last week or will still be included in this week’s draw.

So, to reiterate: to tie in with their new #FortheSpirited campaign, Silent Pool Gin is on a quest to unearth the UK’s most spirited characters – and the search starts right here. For two months, the award-winning distillers will be asking you to nominate the users who you think encapsulate the spirit of Mumsnet - whether that’s entertainment, wise advice, steadfastness, kindness or appallingly rude jokes. They'll be giving one bottle of gin per week to a winning Mumsnet user, and so following on from last week’s thread, we’d like you to continue nominating the users you think deserve a treat. In addition, if your nominee wins, you'll also receive a shopping voucher worth £30.

Here’s what Silent Pool Gin have to say:
“It represents our independent mindset and our uncompromising commitment to producing an exceptional gin with a refreshingly individual character, something we’re able to achieve through our unique four-stage distilling process - find out more about this here.

For the spirited is about following your own path. It’s about doing something kind, inspiring, creative, different. It could be finally handing in your notice, booking that round-the-world trip, starting that new Japanese course or even just deciding to make your very first post on AIBU.

Whatever your version of ‘spirited' is, we applaud you. However, applause only gets you so far, so to officially recognise the wonderful spirit of the Mumsnet community, we are launching the Silent Pool Gin For the Spirited award.
Also we’d love to hear your spirited stories so please tag us in at #forthespirited @silentpoolgin

Simply nominate a Mumsnet user for the #FortheSpirited award on the discussion thread and they'll be in with a chance of winning the prize of a bottle of gin (or a rather fab Silent Pool candle if they’d prefer something free of booze). In turn, if your nominee wins, you'll also receive a £30 voucher. Win, win (gin) Gin. We’ll be running the next prize draw on Monday, 29th July.

Thanks and good luck!

MNHQ

Terms and conditions of prize draw:
Activity specific T&Cs: Mumsnet will run a random prize draw once per week. The nominees within the winning entries will be contacted via email or PM to inform them of the win, and to ask if they would like to receive the prize. A non-alcoholic prize will also be available if desired. To receive an alcoholic prize, nominees will need to provide a copy of photographic ID to Mumsnet (eg a photograph of a passport or driving licence), as well as a physical name and address for the prize to be dispatched to. The name and address will be shared with Silent Pool Gin, with the user's permission. Mumsnet will dispose of this information within one week of users' receipt of the prize. Posters of the winning entries will be emailed by Mumsnet to inform them of the win, and to give them the opportunity to choose the voucher they would like. Their name and email address, with the user's permission, will be shared with Mumsnet's voucher fulfilment company for the purposes of ordering the voucher. Voucher winner's details will be retained for audit purposes. Winner's details will be used for the purpose of the prize draw and prize delivery only, and not for any other marketing purpose. Standard Mumsnet Insight T&Cs can be found here.

Thank you Mumsnet and Silent Pool. Congratulations @BIWI, you are indeed worth it! Grin

Sunflowers211 · 17/08/2019 21:35

I would like to nominate @NewModelArmyMayhem18 as she has been an Angel in setting up threads helping students and Parents through The A Level process and University!

Arborea · 17/08/2019 23:59

I wanted to nominate @DorisDangleberry for being the funniest person I've ever read, but I think she's name-changed (probably because she was worried I was stalking her...)

TopBitchoftheWitches · 18/08/2019 08:49

I nominate myself for just managing to get through every day Hmm

Someaddedsugar · 18/08/2019 16:38

I'd like to nominate @Reastie for setting up the Christmas bargains threads - they've been a huge help for me the past few years and the Christmassy spirit on the threads is lovely.

nettie434 · 19/08/2019 08:59

I'd like to nominate @TinselAngel for starting the Transwidows threads, and for her unstinting, unselfish and steadfast support

Agree with OnlythetitoftheIceberg. @TinselAngel is a worthy nominee. I’d love to think she got real gin, not just virtual. Iceberg - you were 1st with nomination. This is a just to support your choice, not muscle in.

NoWordForFluffy · 20/08/2019 06:08

I nominate SideOrderofChips. She's had a really tough year with her health and personal issues as well and deserves a treat.

AbbiCMumsnet · 20/08/2019 09:13

Congratulations to Sunflowers211 for nominating @NewModelArmyMayhem18 "as she has been an Angel in setting up threads helping students and Parents through The A Level process and University!"
Keep your nominations coming in!

BIWI · 20/08/2019 10:04

My gin arrived yesterday! Thank you very much Gin Flowers

SpamChaudFroid · 20/08/2019 19:37

I nominate KnottyAndPistey, you made me a beautiful and much treasured woolly hug during the most painful time of my life, (under a previous name). It meant so much, the kindness from somewhere least expected. I'm sitting on it as I type. Smile

FMFL · 20/08/2019 22:51

I’m going to vote for RedToothBrush whose work and insight on the Westminstenders thread over the past few years (!) has been enlightening, useful and frankly inspirational.

iVampire · 21/08/2019 07:53

It is a shame that it is a random lottery for the simple reason that you now need to remove TwitterQueen - a magnificent MNetter much nominated on the first thread - from the list of those in the draw

Sagradafamiliar · 21/08/2019 18:43

Words fail me...wow.

MrsFrTedCrilly · 22/08/2019 00:37

I’m nominating DadDadDad for keeping all the stats in the long running Archers thread.
you can pretend it’s scruff gin!

iVampire · 22/08/2019 14:20

Omg thank you so much! Congrats @NewModelArmyMayhem18 💕

Apileofballyhoo · 23/08/2019 22:27

Onitlikeacarbonnet because she needs to know how fantastic she is and she deserves a treat because she's fighting a battle every day. And the voucher is for her too.

iVampire · 24/08/2019 07:47

We have lost 4 Lacies this year in the space of 4 months. TQ was nominated - when this was the first thread and it was not clear it was a lottery, but that MNHQ were looking for which MNetters really mattered. TQ had loads of nominations because she mattered so much, not just as a Lacie, but as a Woolly Hugger and just as a good poster all round.

I’ve been typing through tears at the deaths of Leslie purple aimlessly and now TQ

I thought the only practical think I could do was make sure her newly bereaved DD’s did n’t suddenly get a ‘congrats you’ve won gin’ email, maybe the chances were low that it would have happened. But there was nothing else useful that could be done.

I’ve lost another friend, and am only savage to the extent that the Lacies can be quite protective of each other, but right now, knowing what others think of me, perhaps there are now too many holes for me

@iVampire Flowers too many Lacies Sad

PhilomenaButterfly · 25/08/2019 11:52

VanillaSugarr for the brilliant Respo threads.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 26/08/2019 21:10

I'd like to nominate SchadenfreudePersonified for her magnificent sense of the absurd, her humanity and humour, and for Vlad and Vanka Wink

BambooWhoosh · 26/08/2019 21:39

I'd like to nominate maz2003 who is going through a very stressful time with family illness.

Crustytoenail · 27/08/2019 08:45

I'd like to nominate @Frequency.

She sounds like a lovely, balanced, hard working person who has a lot of empathy and talks a lot of sense!

FredaFrogspawn · 27/08/2019 18:25

Can I please nominate @Ohyoubadkitten for her fascinating and knowledgeable posts about the weather. She is such a modest and generous poster who shares her passion for things meteorological in a way which is compelling. And useful! (Shutting skylight before going out thanks to her thunderstorm warnings).
