This activity is now closed

As some of you will know we had a lively discussion last week around our new quest (along with generous prize-donors Silent Pool Gin) to spread some joy by asking you to nominate the MNer who you think most deserves a treat this week (you can read the thread here if you, er, must).

We’ve made a few changes following your suggestions and we’ve cleared up a bit of confusion too (not least here at MNHQ) and we thought we’d start a spanking new nominations thread so that everything is nice and tidy. Fear not, all your nominations from the previous thread were included in the prize draw for last week or will still be included in this week’s draw.

So, to reiterate: to tie in with their new #FortheSpirited campaign, Silent Pool Gin is on a quest to unearth the UK’s most spirited characters – and the search starts right here. For two months, the award-winning distillers will be asking you to nominate the users who you think encapsulate the spirit of Mumsnet - whether that’s entertainment, wise advice, steadfastness, kindness or appallingly rude jokes. They'll be giving one bottle of gin per week to a winning Mumsnet user, and so following on from last week’s thread, we’d like you to continue nominating the users you think deserve a treat. In addition, if your nominee wins, you'll also receive a shopping voucher worth £30.

Here’s what Silent Pool Gin have to say:
“It represents our independent mindset and our uncompromising commitment to producing an exceptional gin with a refreshingly individual character, something we’re able to achieve through our unique four-stage distilling process - find out more about this here.

For the spirited is about following your own path. It’s about doing something kind, inspiring, creative, different. It could be finally handing in your notice, booking that round-the-world trip, starting that new Japanese course or even just deciding to make your very first post on AIBU.

Whatever your version of ‘spirited' is, we applaud you. However, applause only gets you so far, so to officially recognise the wonderful spirit of the Mumsnet community, we are launching the Silent Pool Gin For the Spirited award.
Also we’d love to hear your spirited stories so please tag us in at #forthespirited @silentpoolgin

Simply nominate a Mumsnet user for the #FortheSpirited award on the discussion thread and they'll be in with a chance of winning the prize of a bottle of gin (or a rather fab Silent Pool candle if they’d prefer something free of booze). In turn, if your nominee wins, you'll also receive a £30 voucher. Win, win (gin) Gin. We’ll be running the next prize draw on Monday, 29th July.

Thanks and good luck!

MNHQ

Terms and conditions of prize draw:
Activity specific T&Cs: Mumsnet will run a random prize draw once per week. The nominees within the winning entries will be contacted via email or PM to inform them of the win, and to ask if they would like to receive the prize. A non-alcoholic prize will also be available if desired. To receive an alcoholic prize, nominees will need to provide a copy of photographic ID to Mumsnet (eg a photograph of a passport or driving licence), as well as a physical name and address for the prize to be dispatched to. The name and address will be shared with Silent Pool Gin, with the user's permission. Mumsnet will dispose of this information within one week of users' receipt of the prize. Posters of the winning entries will be emailed by Mumsnet to inform them of the win, and to give them the opportunity to choose the voucher they would like. Their name and email address, with the user's permission, will be shared with Mumsnet's voucher fulfilment company for the purposes of ordering the voucher. Voucher winner's details will be retained for audit purposes. Winner's details will be used for the purpose of the prize draw and prize delivery only, and not for any other marketing purpose. Standard Mumsnet Insight T&Cs can be found here.

aww thank you Freda :) I'm very glad you've shut your skylight.

That's very sad about TQ.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/08/2019 18:58

I'd like to nominate @GloriaSmud who co-hosts the weather threads and does an absolutely splendid job.

Marmitebread · 27/08/2019 20:21

@yolofish - has been through some major shit recently an holds the Elderly parents board together.

ssd · 27/08/2019 22:51

I'd like to nominate @mummylin for everything she did on the losing a parent thread in bereavement.

ssd · 27/08/2019 22:52

And I'd like to nominate myself for getting the elderly parents board started

But I guess that's not allowed!

emilybrontescorsett · 28/08/2019 09:28

Is like to nominate Graphista for her intelligent posts.

GloriaSmud · 28/08/2019 10:59

Oh gosh, OYBBK Blush

beanaseireann · 28/08/2019 17:19

I nominate Vicarinatutu.
She has name changed but someone in Mumsnet Towers will know her new username.
She is always sooo kind to others.
If I could nominate another it would be Anyfucker, who gives great advice.
QueenoftheAndals deserves a nice big gin too for her gazillion threads on Royal Style which have garnered great support and great reading.

MaidenMotherCrone · 29/08/2019 14:38

I nominate @PigletJohn because he is so very helpful, kind and knowledgable about all things you'd normally have to pay someone to come and have a look at for you.
Thank you PigletJohn!

AbbiCMumsnet · 29/08/2019 14:47

Last weeks winners were @KnottyAndPistey who was nominated by @SpamChaudFroid as "you made me a beautiful and much treasured woolly hug during the most painful time of my life, (under a previous name).
Congratulations both, and keep 'em coming in!

catanddogmake6 · 29/08/2019 16:01

It has to be yet another vote for Reastie again. I am a relative newcomer and am only on the Christmas thread for the 4th year but that thread has helped hundreds with budgeting and keeping costs down for Christmas over the years and maintains all that is positive about Mumsnet. Plus she can drink it this year!

SpamChaudFroid · 29/08/2019 16:29

Yay, thanks AbbiC. And here's to KnottyAndPistey Gin 💐

MeDownSouth · 29/08/2019 16:31

I'd like to nominate @bellinisurge for all of her work on the preppers and Brexit boards/threads. She is (usually) patient and kindly repeats herself regularly to help out newbies who are worried and want to get some control over their lives (whether that's planning for weather/mat leave/Brexit/job loss/etc).

beanaseireann · 29/08/2019 16:49

I second PigletJohn's nomination. Amazingly hrlpful and so knowledgeable.

BIWI · 29/08/2019 19:29

Ooh er - one bottle of gin between 2?! @KnottyandPistey could be about to fall out! Wink

KnottyAndPistey · 30/08/2019 11:44

Gin you say???!!!

KnottyAndPistey · 30/08/2019 11:52

How enormously kind, thank you so much. Gin Thanks Star

Both Knotty and I are so glad we can organise the woolly hugs for wonderful folk and families on here, but how we with they were never needed. Too many beautiful individuals gone too soon, and now TQ who we both counted as a friend on here and away from Mumsnet. We will be messaging her wonderful daughters soon to see if we can make for them too.

If anyone wants to find out more about what we do, we have our own board Woolly Hugs, it's in Body and Soul, we'd love to have you with us.

Thank you so much for the nominations, we promise to share!

Or just fight over it, but I'm bigger so I'll win Grin Gin

xxxxx

StealthPolarBear · 30/08/2019 19:07

I agreed with those who said this was a bit shit, popularity contest. But actually perfect winners :o couldn't have gone to nicer people

StealthPolarBear · 30/08/2019 19:09

Twitter queen has died?!

areyoubeingserviced · 30/08/2019 22:06

@Nobelgiraffe.
My dd achieved a great 8 at GCSE maths ( her weakest subject) and this is due largely to the great advice given by Noblegiraffe over the years.

areyoubeingserviced · 30/08/2019 22:10

Grade 8

Tanith · 30/08/2019 23:42

I'd like to second the nomination for @bellinisurge. Her prepping advice saved us in a crisis earlier this year. Goodness knows how many others will have cause to be very grateful to her.

Time40 · 31/08/2019 14:16

I'd like to nominate Miss Battleaxe for a fascinating and useful AMA - and for keeping on coming back and answering yet more questions.

cinders15 · 03/09/2019 14:09

I would also like to nominate @jamaisjedors for her courage and strength, on behalf of her followers for so many months. She continues to update on her life and situation no matter what, and she has been an inspiration to those in similar circumstances. Brava Jamais!
