Babies and toddlers are often curious about everything they can get their hands on, making the process of childproofing a rite of passage for most parents. Fairy Non Bio would like to hear your tips for childproofing your home.

Here’s what Fairy Non Bio has to say: “Cleaning products are easily found by little explorers and it is our passion to keep all children safe. We have designed new child lock pack systems for our 3in1 PODs to make it difficult for them to get into, but we still want to spread the word to click close the lid and store up high. We want to know what else could help keep kids safe!”

Do you find it best to have stair gates in the doorway to every room? Do you have an alternative for once your child works out how to use your cupboard locks? Perhaps you know a way to get corner guards to stay on your tables even though your child attempts to pull them off? Whatever your childproofing tips, we’d love to hear them.

All who share their tips for childproofing below will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

Everything out of reach and an eagle eye

Keep cleaning products and medicine in a high cupboard and fit safety catches to lower cupboards. Also stair gates and plug guards are invaluable.

we had one of the locks you get for freezers and out daughter just pulled it straight off having noticed the adhesive pads! the plastic ratchet together clips that hold cupboards shut have been great though and the foam pads over sharp furniture corners. other than that everything was moved up to the very highest shelf!

We used stair gates and put a child lock on the cupboards with bleach. We have put on locks on all the windows as I'm so worried they will lean and fall out the upstairs window. Apart from that we have carried on as normal and told them what not to touch.

We didn't really baby proof as they weren't really left out of sight. We did have the door jam things to stop their fingers getting trapped but we didn't go for stair gates or cupboard locks as they were never left unattended. Now they are older they probably cause more problems for themselves!

glynda · 08/06/2019 12:21

We moved all the dangerous cleaning products and knives etc out of reach and used a baby gate for the stairs.

stairgates and cupboard locks on cupboards that store harmful things in them :)

sarah25037 · 08/06/2019 12:44

the only thing I have is a baby gate on the kitchen so they can't get into anything and a baby gate on my 20 month old room as we have just changed her to a toddler bed

iut044 · 08/06/2019 12:47

Childproof gates on the stairs are neccesary

Batfink78 · 08/06/2019 13:03

We like having a stair gate in our daughters bedroom doorway. It stops her getting out and about in the night. We can then set house alarms etc and know exactly where she is.

Furniture and a television strap to prevent falling heavy items. Cushioned corners, anti-slam foam door covers, cupboard locks, fireguard and safety gates - oh my how my home has changed since the birth of DS1 and DD1.

Stair gates and cupboard locks

Child proof locks on kitchen cupboards and stair gates on the kitchen and stairs

lillypopdaisyduke · 08/06/2019 13:19

My fireguard, safety gates at the bottom and top of the stairs, I've relocated my dishes and cereals to the cupboard under the sink and moved the cleaning products to the wall cupboard. The same goes with bathroom cleaner - this goes out of the way,
I have a water thermometer on the bath, and bath seat so there is no slippage when DS2 and 1 are in the bath together.
I have seen comments above for a safety strap for a television - I have just ordered on - thanks lovely mumsnetters.

SandAndSeals · 08/06/2019 13:21

We have a stairgate on the kitchen as there are a lot of things that could be dangerous in there, but otherwise everything is as normal and I supervise carefully. I also take care to leave things like mugs and glass out of reach.

Emmax12 · 08/06/2019 13:50

Stair gates is an important one to me. My daughter is a runner and she just runs everywhere and not having them would be a disaster for us. We also have cupboard locks for safety (paranoid about shutting fingers in drawers) and also a bed guard.

Alwaysoverthinkingit34 · 08/06/2019 14:30

We have a baby gate from living room to kitchen so that the baby cannot get into any cupboards or meds.

strawberrisc · 08/06/2019 14:43

Start off with the obvious - buy the packs that block plug sockets. Cover the sharp edges. Put the baby lock on the fridge and toilet. Make sure the stairs are out of bounds. When in an environment that isn't home, scan the area for any potential hazards. Use common sense such as not having hot liquids around toddlers. Even a little hot water can leave an awful scar.

JoJoY · 08/06/2019 15:05

The best things I bought were foam things to put on the door to stop it slamming, also great to use when they get older and have a temper lol

LeeR1985 · 08/06/2019 15:12

We had locks on all cupboard doors and a couple of baby gates. We also made sure any hazardous things like cleaning products were kept in a high cupboard just in case she figured out how to get in to one of the locked ones

glennamy · 08/06/2019 16:24

We done the usual, any washing/cleaning chemicals away from reach, child proof locks on doors and a safety gate and any obvious sharp corners covered!

amyhalliday1 · 08/06/2019 16:47

We have have a animal ear door and cupboard locks!! Also have a gate x

Lheath · 08/06/2019 17:08

We just had stair gates at the top and bottom of our stairs

Eisley · 08/06/2019 17:13

We have several stair gates ready to go....... dunno what we will do though as we have sooo many trinkets our. Luckily we have a few months to go as our son is only 4 months old.

LittleAndOften · 08/06/2019 17:17

Stair gates at the top and bottom and the kitchen. Also handy for keeping the dog contained when needed! Also a magnetic child lock on the cupboard under the sink and all cosmetic and cleaning products in bathrooms up out of reach.
