Babies and toddlers are often curious about everything they can get their hands on, making the process of childproofing a rite of passage for most parents. Fairy Non Bio would like to hear your tips for childproofing your home.

Here’s what Fairy Non Bio has to say: “Cleaning products are easily found by little explorers and it is our passion to keep all children safe. We have designed new child lock pack systems for our 3in1 PODs to make it difficult for them to get into, but we still want to spread the word to click close the lid and store up high. We want to know what else could help keep kids safe!”

Do you find it best to have stair gates in the doorway to every room? Do you have an alternative for once your child works out how to use your cupboard locks? Perhaps you know a way to get corner guards to stay on your tables even though your child attempts to pull them off? Whatever your childproofing tips, we’d love to hear them.

All who share their tips for childproofing below will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

Parental controls on internet is where we are now. It’s harde to child proof your home as they get older!

I had a stair gate on my daughters door when she first started sleeping in her toddler bed. Saved me worrying that she might get out and up to mischief during the night.

bevmichelle47 · 08/06/2019 09:04

Gates on stairs, cupboard locks, fire guard and bath seat. i'd rather be to careful than not do anything. My nerves are shot as it is! lol

hiddenmichelle · 08/06/2019 09:10

We did the cupboard locks and had stair gates but in all honesty not a lot else - just supervised them! You cannot childproof eveyrthing and kids need to learn what is hot/hard etc too

happysouls · 08/06/2019 09:13

You have to think of everything first because anything you forget you can be sure your child will find! Run your eye over every room and ask yourself what the dangers are! Cupboard locks are good and moving things to higher places!

potofdreams4 · 08/06/2019 09:14

We just have a safety gate at the bottom of the stairs and supervise when we're upstairs. My children are both stairs savvy now thankfully

Foam sticky tape on all the sharpish furniture sides/corners and fixing furniture/ TV to the walls. Ikea does some nice things, you'll be surprised

janeyf1 · 08/06/2019 09:38

stairgate, parental controls on the tv and keeping an eye on her all the time

kagglen · 08/06/2019 09:44

We always keep the cleaning products in a cupboard that is very high so there is no way they can reach anything.

SSCRASE123 · 08/06/2019 09:46

Stairgates were the biggie for us as we have quite a deep and steep set onto a stone floor. Other than that we do ensure chemicals for cleaning etc. are out of childrens reach but they are getting to a size now where my eldest is almost as tall as my wife so won't matter soon. Education really about what to do/don't touch is key.

Ganne1 · 08/06/2019 09:50

The obvious things are stairgates, electrical covers, and locks where necessary. But the overriding concept is to think, and be careful at all times. Having children around is no time for relaxing!

maryandbuzz1 · 08/06/2019 09:54

Our worse nightmare were the stairs as a gate just wouldn’t fit. We taught my son a safe way to come down which worked but we were very vigilant.
We have window locks which were locked constantly and moved everything out of his reach.

ThemisA · 08/06/2019 09:55

Locks on any doors with dangerous substances, hot drinks, kettle flexes, saucepan handles etc out of reach. I have always crawled around each room trying to get a baby's eye -looking for dangers from sharp table corners, sockets flexes etc

Sus4nn4h · 08/06/2019 10:39

We have special locks on all cupboards with chemicals or dangerous substances. We also have a stair gate at the top and bottom of our stairs.

lolly2010 · 08/06/2019 10:43

Child locks on cupboards, covers in plug sockets, place cleaning products out of reach, a first a bay gate on the kitchen, full fireguard over our fireplace, shoot bolt high at front door to stop them opening it.

lizd31 · 08/06/2019 10:58

Childproof locks on cupboard doors, a stair gate & covers for electric sockets

jazzitup · 08/06/2019 11:08

Cover the child in bubble wrap, job done lol.
Save a lot of time and money x

Lindseymorris29 · 08/06/2019 11:12

Poisons such as cleaning products high up as well as dishes and breakable. Obviously a stair gate. The chairs and high chair have to go on top of the table, as the little one is a climber and pretty much constant supervision, even if it means being joined in the shower by a fully dressed toddler! Grin

Sparklepants3 · 08/06/2019 11:18

When the kids were younger we made sure there was a stair gate to the kitchen but didn't really proof anything else.
We just made sure that we kept an eye on them and they stayed safe.

Montydoo · 08/06/2019 11:20

we have a television safety strap for our toddler who is cruising around the front room, a fire guard fixed to the fireplace, slam protectors on doors, and of course the trusty safety gate.

footdust · 08/06/2019 11:30

Child locks on the cupboards and stair gates on top and bottoms of the stairs
And of course the eyes in the back of my head

Elizasmum02 · 08/06/2019 11:46

we only have a stairgate, i dont use socket ccvewrs as i heard they arent safe and i just make sure that i keep telling the kiddies what is dangerous to touch!

IonaAilidh11 · 08/06/2019 11:49

stairgate at top and bottom of stairs and cupboards locks are a life saver

1lMK090976 · 08/06/2019 12:05

We have stair gates at the top & bottom of the stairs. We also have table and unit corner cushions on most items. Our eldest has just worked out how to undo the latch on the top gate so our latest invention is a scarf tied round the gate and stair banister - free, quick, easy for us to undo (once he's asleep) and has got him baffled :)

lovemyflipflops · 08/06/2019 12:06

I have a pressure Fit clear-view safety gate on my kitchen so I can see and be seen, it may be a bit OTT but I bought a tracker for when we are out and about . (DS2 wandered off in a department store once - and I won't go through that 15 minutes of worry again) - I have not had to use it, bit it's peace of mind for me. I still have a safety fireguard, mainly for rough play rather than anything else.
