No doubt, at some point in our lives, we’ve all been asked ‘What is your dream job?’. For many of us, the answer we gave probably isn’t the career we’ve ended up doing. The Open University would like to know which course you would study to help you achieve your dream job.

Maybe you’ve always dreamed of doing a particular job and you know there are courses that would help you to achieve it. Perhaps you’re already in the career you want but hope to move up to the next level? Or there is a course you’re really interested in taking and then you could visualise a career from there?

We’ve partnered with The Open University so that they can help MNers discover the range of courses and qualifications available. Take a look on their website here.

Here’s what The Open University has to say: "Every year, 1000’s of students from all walks of life enrol with The OU to develop new skills and boost their career prospects. With a wide range of subjects and qualifications that have no formal entry requirements, you can achieve your dream career with our flexible courses. Fit study around your life, your family, work and other commitments and get ongoing support from our expert tutors and student services team."

Simply post The OU course you would choose to study and the career of your dreams on the thread below to enter the prize draw. One lucky winner will receive a £300 voucher of their choice provided by Mumsnet (from a list).

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw.

I'd love to do the BA (Honours) Business Management (Accounting) as I think that would help me to progress further working for the MAT I am currently employed by. It would also help stretch the old brain cells a bit more :-)

I would do an MA in creative writing to give me the motivation to get writing again.

Forensic Psychology - I've had an interest in it since I was young

An interior design course of sorts!

As someone who spent 5 years in education as an adult which then got me absolutely nowhere, I can't say the prospect of doing any more studying really appeals. And especially when I'd have to pay a large fee in order to do it. I did have a look through the short courses, but they seem aimed at people already in certain types of employment. If there was a course that would guarantee me a chance of a career without any work experience needed though, I might be interested in that.

jandoc · 15/05/2019 19:18

it would be something in psychology

Mitcholiver · 15/05/2019 19:22

I would like to gain a masters which would help me specialise working as an Occupational Therapist with children having sensory difficulties. Such an interesting rewarding job to work in, maybe one day my dream will come true!!

ang65t · 15/05/2019 19:29

I would like to do an IT course

Ikea1234 · 15/05/2019 19:36

I have a degree in history and would love to study for a Masters in something like Art History and go into museum of gallery work. At the moment it's financially impossible for us as a family, but I cling to the hope that one day it will work out to be possible!

Minnibix · 15/05/2019 19:43

I would like to study animal husbandry, I would love a small holding for goats, chickens and donkeys. Hope I could make some money from goats milk, selling eggs and maybe a petting zoo, although I know I would probably have to do some online work to supplement my income

Emski33 · 15/05/2019 19:46

I would love to do a writing course - have an idea for a book but when I write it's so basic and boring

chloe968 · 15/05/2019 19:48

jessiecat333 · 15/05/2019 19:52

I would love to do some catering course ofr pastry chef

avery64 · 15/05/2019 19:55

I already had my dream job of teacher when I obtained my OU degree. For others considering it I cannot recommend the OU highly enough. It fitted in so well with work and family commitments and the support I had from the tutors was second to none. Now retired I am considering doing a course in IT purely for the enjoyment I get from extending my own knowledge. You are never too old or young to learn!

WeeMadArthur · 15/05/2019 19:58

I would love to work with endangered animals but unfortunately the OU doesn’t offer anything that might suit.

LeeR1985 · 15/05/2019 20:01

I'd like to study computing and IT. I'm good with computers so feel like i'd have an advantage from the beginning :)

SimplySteveRedux · 15/05/2019 20:09

Ah, I've regretfully pulled out of an OU course in the past due to health issues and I now apparently cannot study with them.

But my background is high-level internet services/computing services, the very top of the field including being published before disability rendered me a bedbound, wheelchair using "thing".

I'd say health has always been my primary interest, or music. OU do no music courses, and their Health Sciences course doesn't really touch the things I'm interested in, in these fields. So an Open Degree would be my only course - but likely too fractured in terms of focus.

Not that I'm likely employable/likely to work again. Something that's hard to write having been rendered "useless" at 31, now 41.

ellie1008 · 15/05/2019 20:12

i really wanna pick up on my spanish again! i used to study it and i was almost fluent but i haven't practiced it in so long.

MrsFrankCastle · 15/05/2019 20:18

Psychology. Maybe one day I will get the opportunity

FaFoutis · 15/05/2019 20:24

Simply - the OU do music courses. I think there's a BA in music and an MA.

rachelmccraith · 15/05/2019 20:32

I'd love to be a social worker, and I'd love to do the BA (Honours) Social Work course
