No doubt, at some point in our lives, we’ve all been asked ‘What is your dream job?’. For many of us, the answer we gave probably isn’t the career we’ve ended up doing. The Open University would like to know which course you would study to help you achieve your dream job.

Maybe you’ve always dreamed of doing a particular job and you know there are courses that would help you to achieve it. Perhaps you’re already in the career you want but hope to move up to the next level? Or there is a course you’re really interested in taking and then you could visualise a career from there?

We’ve partnered with The Open University so that they can help MNers discover the range of courses and qualifications available. Take a look on their website here.

Here’s what The Open University has to say: "Every year, 1000’s of students from all walks of life enrol with The OU to develop new skills and boost their career prospects. With a wide range of subjects and qualifications that have no formal entry requirements, you can achieve your dream career with our flexible courses. Fit study around your life, your family, work and other commitments and get ongoing support from our expert tutors and student services team."

Simply post The OU course you would choose to study and the career of your dreams on the thread below to enter the prize draw. One lucky winner will receive a £300 voucher of their choice provided by Mumsnet (from a list).

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw.

A it course would be great for me

BlueBoy1969 · 15/05/2019 12:31

I’ve been out of work fro some time now, I was in middle management and loved it, the team work, the challenging deadlines and above all the laughter and banter with my colleagues.
I’d like to get back to work within the next 6 months, so I would like to study in order to build up my confidence.
I like the idea of accountancy as money fascinates me.

I work in agriculture and would like to do more plant pathology courses. I cannot find anything like this though on the OU website and don't seem to be able to find a search facility that allows you to search for specific subjects or courses. I think this is vital and would be really helpful. I used the search bar at the top of the page, but it just brought back professors that work there who have plant pathology interests.

History - as I've got older I have become more and more interested in it

NerrSnerr · 15/05/2019 13:14

I would do the MSC in mental health science

glennamy · 15/05/2019 13:21

I would love to work in animal protection so something along those lines would be ideal!

CynthiaRothrock · 15/05/2019 13:22

I would love to do the Bsc hons in sports, fitness and coaching. I would also like to do some thing in mental health and work in an area that brings the two together.

Emmax12 · 15/05/2019 13:28

I want to start my open business so I would love to do something like business management (innovation and enterprise).

Sus4nn4h · 15/05/2019 13:43

I'd love to do a digital marketing course. So I could get a job but work from home.

AngelwingsPetlamb · 15/05/2019 14:02

Forensic psychology looks very interesting and would compliment the qualifications I already have and enable me to take a slightly different career pathway which is always a good thing in my opinion.

moosexxx · 15/05/2019 14:24

I would like to study librarianship. Though getting a job might using it might be tricky.

amesn · 15/05/2019 14:30

Definitely Criminology and Law - I find it all so fascinating!

emmmaaa26 · 15/05/2019 14:40

I would love to do something to do with business and accountancy.

LIZS · 15/05/2019 14:56

MA in Classical Studies - would love to be an archaeologist/curator

MrsRix32 · 15/05/2019 15:17

Games Development to help me become a Games Designer

chloe282 · 15/05/2019 15:17

I have always thought about working in the field of Social work, as my sister is a qualified social worker - she loves her job and finds it challenging, yet rewarding. I studied health and social care at sixth form, so think this would be ideal to study the BA (Hons) Social work degree.

frances93 · 15/05/2019 15:52

The course I would like to study is mindfullness (I don't even think its a course available with a university), because I really have no clue what I would like to do and never have since leaving school. So I truly think that a course in mindfullness would stop my brain from going into overdrive overanalysing things, making me a much happier person. So that I could actually gain the confidence in myself to achieve everything I want in life

mollymoo818 · 15/05/2019 15:56

I would love to do a Spanish and French course, not so much for career development but more just for myself. I studied both at school and can hold a conversation in both but I would love to immerse myself in the language more and be able to hold more difficult conversations.

OrdinarySnowflake · 15/05/2019 16:36

I'm another who doesn't know what would help. I have a degree, but no burning desire to do a particular vocational job.

I have lots of interests I'd like to study, but more interested in looking at local adult education courses, as I'm not interested in courses towards a new career, more courses towards making a more interesting me - so want lower level, not job focused training.

That said, I do think what the OU does is amazing, opening up learning and career opportunities to people who wouldn't have the chance without it.

JoJoY · 15/05/2019 16:52

I'd do Psychology.

GooodMythicalMorning · 15/05/2019 16:55

Id be torn, realistically it'd be foundation counselling and be a counsellor but I'd also love to do a forensic psychology course as that would be my dream career.

towser44 · 15/05/2019 17:16

Definitely MSc in Space Science and Technology. I love space and the wonders of it!

FaFoutis · 15/05/2019 17:20

I'm not sure the question about the dream job covers the motivation of most OU students. OU study enriches your life and changes the way you think. It's not just about jobs.
I'm doing the MA in creative writing. It's very good.

jp237 · 15/05/2019 17:24

My dream job would be related to genetics or evolutionarily biology and I hope to compete the BSc (Honours) Natural Science (Biology) with the OU. Then hopefully continue to do some postgraduate study.

poorbuthappy · 15/05/2019 17:27

I'd love to be an auditor for a QM body.
I maybe very very boring and sad...
