No doubt, at some point in our lives, we’ve all been asked ‘What is your dream job?’. For many of us, the answer we gave probably isn’t the career we’ve ended up doing. The Open University would like to know which course you would study to help you achieve your dream job.

Maybe you’ve always dreamed of doing a particular job and you know there are courses that would help you to achieve it. Perhaps you’re already in the career you want but hope to move up to the next level? Or there is a course you’re really interested in taking and then you could visualise a career from there?

We’ve partnered with The Open University so that they can help MNers discover the range of courses and qualifications available. Take a look on their website here.

Here’s what The Open University has to say: "Every year, 1000’s of students from all walks of life enrol with The OU to develop new skills and boost their career prospects. With a wide range of subjects and qualifications that have no formal entry requirements, you can achieve your dream career with our flexible courses. Fit study around your life, your family, work and other commitments and get ongoing support from our expert tutors and student services team."

Simply post The OU course you would choose to study and the career of your dreams on the thread below to enter the prize draw. One lucky winner will receive a £300 voucher of their choice provided by Mumsnet (from a list).

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw.

I would love to do a Foundation Degree in counselling.
It's the dream, however time and finances will not allow it!

MrsFrTedCrilly · 13/05/2019 20:38

I’d love to do something completely different from the area I qualified in.
The BSc in geography and environmental science looks fab.

emphasisofmatter · 13/05/2019 20:58

I'd do the Msc in Finance - it would open up a lot of doors career wise I think!

disneydreaming · 13/05/2019 21:05

I would love to do the BA honours social work degree. Working within health and social care currently I would love the opportunity to take my experience to a position where I would be in a better place to help those most in need get the support they need.

Fleabagging · 13/05/2019 21:23

The BSc (Honours) Forensic Psychology, looks fascinating. Not sure I’d actually enjoy working in this field in reality - but studying the course would be interesting. My dream job would be to listen to radio 4 and read books all day!

Tonkatol · 13/05/2019 21:34

I would love to follow the BA (Honours) Course in Social Work. It's not a career many would choose nowadays with all the bad press, but it is something I believe could be a very rewarding career.

MadeForThis · 13/05/2019 21:46

BA Criminology. Could open up some fascinating doors.

kateclarke · 13/05/2019 21:53

I’m a nurse and qualified with a diploma.

I would love to to up to a degree as that’s what I need to be eligible for promotion.

GreyerbytheDay · 13/05/2019 21:55

For me it would definitely be the MBA. I’d love to be able to really explore some of the theoretical underpinnings of strategy, HR and finance. Hopefully that dream might be a reality one day (if I can persuade my chief exec!) as it’s possible to do as part of an apprenticeship - so no cost to my organisation as we’re levy payers.

I’m already in my dream job as a school business professional, but the knowledge and shared learning from other sectors would benefit my Trust enormously, I think.

Creative Writing - I've always thought I could/ would write a book!

GoodPlaceJanet · 13/05/2019 22:33

I'd love to do the MA in creative writing. My other degrees were very job specific and I'd love to take some time to study something that interests me and that I could explore as a hobby and potential career in the future.

michmum · 13/05/2019 23:06

Creative writing or holistic therapies

pearldeodorant · 13/05/2019 23:32

It sounds silly but I'd love to teach modern languages. I only speak french so would need a teaching qualification and probably another language too; maybe I should get cracking with a Spanish course!

MissMoan · 14/05/2019 00:09

I desperately want to train to be a Counselor. It has always been my goal. Unfortunately I have been unable to finance my dream, but even now I continue to lookup courses and ways of achieving this goal.

philnteds · 14/05/2019 00:51

I would love to continue my Health and social care diploma, perhaps eventually going into public health and health care policy. Challenging but ultimately rewarding.

ilovesooty · 14/05/2019 01:11

BSc in Psychology with Counselling to build on my current qualifications.

Seniorschoolmum · 14/05/2019 01:45

I’d qualify as a nutritionist. I looked at OU before but I can’t afford to do it until ds is less dependant so another 8 years Sad

DameSylvieKrin · 14/05/2019 03:52

MA in creative writing

IWouldBeSuperb · 14/05/2019 04:05

A Creative Writing MA would be amazing if time and money were no object!

Practically, something like the MBA would probably be most useful in progressing my current career.

ifigoup · 14/05/2019 04:44

The Counselling foundation degree, with a view to potentially moving into sex and relationships therapy.

livinginhope87 · 14/05/2019 06:12

Can see others share my passion, I would love to do BSc (Honours) Psychology with Counselling.

Starlight2004 · 14/05/2019 06:35

Councelling is something I've always wanted to do, it's also something that's hugely under funded i think. I know in out area it's provided exclusively by charities even when NHS referred.

costacoffeecup · 14/05/2019 06:51

I have an MA in English literature but it's a fake Scottish one. I would quite like to do an MA in history.

Montydoo · 14/05/2019 08:12

I have just scoured through the post graduate courses in engineering and am really interested in BA/BSc (Honours) Design and Innovation 'The design modules feature online design studios, social networking and inspiring study materials alongside a significant practical component. As well as design, you’ll study modules in complementary subjects gaining skills and knowledge in an area that fits your needs and interests'' It's a really good website which shows you the entry requirements, length of course and loan/funding available. Sigh - it's just a pipe dream at the moment - maybe I will fit this course when the children are a little older, and I am wiser.

Environmental science for me. Be part of the solution, eh?
