No doubt, at some point in our lives, we’ve all been asked ‘What is your dream job?’. For many of us, the answer we gave probably isn’t the career we’ve ended up doing. The Open University would like to know which course you would study to help you achieve your dream job.

Maybe you’ve always dreamed of doing a particular job and you know there are courses that would help you to achieve it. Perhaps you’re already in the career you want but hope to move up to the next level? Or there is a course you’re really interested in taking and then you could visualise a career from there?

We’ve partnered with The Open University so that they can help MNers discover the range of courses and qualifications available. Take a look on their website here.

Here’s what The Open University has to say: "Every year, 1000’s of students from all walks of life enrol with The OU to develop new skills and boost their career prospects. With a wide range of subjects and qualifications that have no formal entry requirements, you can achieve your dream career with our flexible courses. Fit study around your life, your family, work and other commitments and get ongoing support from our expert tutors and student services team."

Simply post The OU course you would choose to study and the career of your dreams on the thread below to enter the prize draw. One lucky winner will receive a £300 voucher of their choice provided by Mumsnet (from a list).

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw.

I would have loved to study Art History and have worked in the archives of a museum. Imagine discovering treasures from the store and researching the work and the artist before putting the piece proudly on show. Fabulous.

I would love to do a BSc Honours in Nursing (adult care)
My parents always said I'd be the most excellent nurse. I never trained and I regret it. I then had my children and it was just put on the shelf. I still think it would be a challenging rewarding job and something I was meant to do.
I didn't even realise you could do it through the open university. Seriously tempted now my children are older!

I wish now I had studied Medicine rather than the Physics I actually did and hated. I'm afraid that the OU couldn't have helped with that even if I was young enough now.

My dream job + course would be - Interior Design as I'd love to be a Interior Designer of Static Caravans (Only).

My lifelong dream from a kid is to have my own caravan, I love the feeling of being on holiday and staying in one, I'm a caravan nerd and I'm always checking out new ranges they bring out. I'd like to design caravans and make them warm, snug and practical. With hidden storage, comfortable pull out sofa beds, kids rooms that are fun, stylish kitchens that you can actually cook in not just microwave food haha Grin.

I would love to complete a MA in creative writing. I think I would really benefit from dedicating time to this.

I'd like to learn teaching. I know everyone says teaching is awful, and it's all paperwork these days, and no support and long days and stress..... but I harbour a secret longing to be a teacher, and think I'd actually be quite good at it.

Maybe as a mid life career change...

I've been looking at the MA in Translation - fits in perfectly with my first degree and would help me continue to build a portfolio of freelance clients.

I'd like a course in digital marketing - which sadly OU doesnt do - I already work in the field but would like a formal qualification which would make it easier for me to go for higher level jobs in the field

Id love to do a course in Dog Behaviourism and learn all the theory to then go on to gaining hands-on experience. There aren't many credible distance learning courses for it at present.
