No doubt, at some point in our lives, we’ve all been asked ‘What is your dream job?’. For many of us, the answer we gave probably isn’t the career we’ve ended up doing. The Open University would like to know which course you would study to help you achieve your dream job.

Maybe you’ve always dreamed of doing a particular job and you know there are courses that would help you to achieve it. Perhaps you’re already in the career you want but hope to move up to the next level? Or there is a course you’re really interested in taking and then you could visualise a career from there?

We’ve partnered with The Open University so that they can help MNers discover the range of courses and qualifications available. Take a look on their website here.

Here’s what The Open University has to say: "Every year, 1000’s of students from all walks of life enrol with The OU to develop new skills and boost their career prospects. With a wide range of subjects and qualifications that have no formal entry requirements, you can achieve your dream career with our flexible courses. Fit study around your life, your family, work and other commitments and get ongoing support from our expert tutors and student services team."

Simply post The OU course you would choose to study and the career of your dreams on the thread below to enter the prize draw. One lucky winner will receive a £300 voucher of their choice provided by Mumsnet (from a list).

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw.

The Diploma of Higher Education in Criminology and Law really appeals to me (can I also say the volume of courses available is astonishing and I would urge others to look through) As it is 16-18 hours a week, this is really 'doable' for me. It says the fees are due on a module by module basis - which is achievable. The course starts in October this year ...... really considering. I can then look towards changing my career.

Withington · 14/05/2019 08:51

I think something totally outside of what I've previously - the innovation designing for change module looks good.

PopWentTheWeasel · 14/05/2019 09:56

Unfortunately the OU doesn't offer the course I'd like to do - Podiatry. It's one of those things that's always interested me. I don't have science A levels though, so maybe one of the science Access modules would work for me.

Batsypatsy · 14/05/2019 10:08

I'd be interested in the course Practical Science Biology and Health with a view to a career centred on helping people with digestive problems.

Scardanelli · 14/05/2019 10:38

Law. I so wish I had done Law.

Bemystarlord · 14/05/2019 10:52

I would really want to improve on my IT skills, so I would look into a Foundation Degree in Computing and IT Practice, the course is 'doable' for me in terms of hours, and would open doors for me employment wise. (database administrator, programmer, web designer). There are so many courses to choose from, it's opened my eyes to further education.

I would opt for the Certificate of Higher Education in Business Management, as it has been a long term goal to start my own business, and this qualification would be a good starting point, I could study higher qualifications in the future. (I left school with very poor qualifications - all my own fault and this would make up for my decisions made in my teens). I would hope then to go on to the Diploma of Higher Education in Business Management and maybe the BA (Honours) Business Management (Marketing.

fluffyhamster · 14/05/2019 11:31

Probably just the final year of the BA (Honours) English Literature and Creative Writing. I have 240 credits from other similar courses in Europe which I think (hope!) I might be able to transfer in.
It's the course I always wish I'd done at uni, rather than the business/ economics one my father persuaded me to... Hmm

fluffyhamster · 14/05/2019 11:32

oh, and I'd really love to work in publishing/ book marketing, although I suspect I'm now a bit old Sad

minisoksmakehardwork · 14/05/2019 12:16

I am currently studying English language and literature with the OU. It's great! It's what I wanted to do as a teen but wasn't brave enough. Now I'm a parent, I've rekindled my desire to study.

Quite what I want to do with it I do not know. Although I've always fancied having my own, well stocked library and sharing it. But not like the sterile public libraries in our area. Cosy corners and squishy sofas, more private areas for teaching others to read. I'm a massive believer of reading being the key to everything else and it saddens me that there are still children starting secondary school who do not know how to read nor do they want to read for pleasure.

sharond101 · 14/05/2019 13:17

Psychology is something I find very interesting.

Cordillera · 14/05/2019 13:32

I'd do creative writing to give my writing a real boost and make me make time for it.

evilharpy · 14/05/2019 13:46

BSc Mathematics. Or possibly BSc Mathematics and Statistics. When I was at school I thought I hated maths. I left at 16 after my GCSEs and very quickly regretted it. As it turns out I love maths and how logical it is and how it can make sense of so many things in life.

I'm not sure what the dream career would be. Maybe an actuary, or the female/maths equivalent of Brian Cox Grin

claza93 · 14/05/2019 14:39

I would love to do Forensic Psychology as well! Be like working on Silent Witness lol

MTBMummy · 14/05/2019 14:40

I'd love to do a legal degree.

I work in InfoSec, and I spend so much of my time dealing with legislation and contracts (which I actually love) I would love to make that move, and I'm actually looking at starting my degree with the OU next year.

JC4PMPLZ · 14/05/2019 14:57

Design and Innovation Ba/BSc - would love to lead the next new bauhaus.

Gazelda · 14/05/2019 15:46

I'd love to do BA in childhood & youth studies. Being involved with helping the next generation and all that.

StickChildNumberTwo · 14/05/2019 15:49

There are so many things I'd love to study and in the back of my mind is the knowledge that the OU may be a good option when I have the time and money to be able to study for the sake of it. In terms of career I'm not sure - a PhD is a possibility one day, but not while my kids are small.

cassiewoowoo · 14/05/2019 16:30

I’d love to he a midwife or possibly other healthcare professional. But as I already have a degree, albeit without honours ( I had to skip the last year due to personal circs and didn’t get to go back in time to complete it so am now stuck without the honours part) I don’t qualify for any student funding/loans again...

I’d have to do an access course at college first anyway, and then the degree, which isn’t financially feasible being a single parent and needing a full time income to run my household.

That doesn’t really answer the question of what I’d like study with the OU specifically Grin

purpleclaire · 14/05/2019 16:33

I would love to study Forensic Psychology.

mummumumumumumum · 14/05/2019 16:33

Msc in sports and fitness so I can be a PE teacher.

I'm just finishing my first year with the OU 😊

mononokeswolf · 14/05/2019 17:10

I would love to study for a Masters in Mental Health Science

BigBadBarryatemyboat · 14/05/2019 17:14

Definitely a BA (Hons) Business Management (Accounting). I am on a particular career path now and this degree would allow me to make it to the next level.

Scoleah · 14/05/2019 18:57

I'd love to do a Midwifery course, or train to be a Paramedic!
