No doubt, at some point in our lives, we’ve all been asked ‘What is your dream job?’. For many of us, the answer we gave probably isn’t the career we’ve ended up doing. The Open University would like to know which course you would study to help you achieve your dream job.

Maybe you’ve always dreamed of doing a particular job and you know there are courses that would help you to achieve it. Perhaps you’re already in the career you want but hope to move up to the next level? Or there is a course you’re really interested in taking and then you could visualise a career from there?

We’ve partnered with The Open University so that they can help MNers discover the range of courses and qualifications available. Take a look on their website here.

Here’s what The Open University has to say: "Every year, 1000’s of students from all walks of life enrol with The OU to develop new skills and boost their career prospects. With a wide range of subjects and qualifications that have no formal entry requirements, you can achieve your dream career with our flexible courses. Fit study around your life, your family, work and other commitments and get ongoing support from our expert tutors and student services team."

Simply post The OU course you would choose to study and the career of your dreams on the thread below to enter the prize draw. One lucky winner will receive a £300 voucher of their choice provided by Mumsnet (from a list).

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw.

The OU doesn’t offer my ideal course - I’d read medicine and work towards being a GP however my health problems got in the way of that plan.
So as my backup, I’m actually already studying with the OU - doing my MSc in Medicinal Chemistry (having done my BSc with them too).

Book keeping so I could work from home.

ASREE · 23/05/2019 15:58

I would love to do Criminology!

imrankhanpost · 23/05/2019 18:18

I would do accounts as it a decent role that requires much attention, perhaps boring to others, but worthwhile career. ACCA.

I would love to do the Foundation Degree in Counselling. I did a psychology degree already and would love to apply it to counselling.

Nameusernameuser · 23/05/2019 22:06

I'd love to do counseling, if it was offered. I wanted to be a mental health nurse but having a baby it just isn't pheasable. I have already looked at OU degrees in it.

As a former librarian, I'd love to do a course in book restoration.

mickaul232 · 24/05/2019 09:53

Always wanted to be a Earth Observation Scientist
so would need a BSc (Honours) Computing and IT course

littlemonkeyz · 24/05/2019 12:01

I would love to do an MSc in Forensic Psychology. I always wish I had joined the police force but I'm too old now :(

Loopytiles · 24/05/2019 12:57

I still don’t know what job I would like to do!

If I could sort out the time and money would like to study lots of different things. Science A levels perhaps.

Love the process of finding things out and learning, especially being in a big library.

Felt constrained by having to choose three A levels, then chose a degree that my parents suggested was sensible for getting a job, didn’t enjoy much of it apart from the library and writing.

In retrospect GCSE stage was great, because of the range of things, including arts, perhaps would have been more suited to US education, maybe one day if I get $$$

I have just been accepted to study a woodland ecology degree and I'm so excited - I didn't go to uni after 6th form so I'm quite nervous but am hoping for a job in conservation.

I couldn't do a course with the OU as it has to be a hands on, in the woods, situation.

I have been looking at the Ba (honours) criminology and psychology course on and off for a while now. I'm fascinated by people's behaviour and motivations when they commit crimes.

I would love to work in that field and help people move on to more productive lives.

I can dream!

I’d study an MA in Art History. It wouldn’t really do anything for my career (what career?) but I loved studying art history as part of my degree. It would be sooo lovely to devote time and brain cells to something purely for the love of it and forget about all the life-shit that goes on each day when you’re paddling like mad just to stay afloat.

KittyKat88 · 24/05/2019 23:45

I would have loved to work with wild animals so something zoological would be the perfect study path for me!

scarfattack · 25/05/2019 00:36

It would have to be a physics degree to open the doors I'd need to get into the space sciences. I dreamed of having one of those jobs that if there was alien contact or somewhere in outer space needed exploring and they needed a 'scientist' I'd be one of the go-to people.
Sadly i just don't think it'll ever happen for me now. Too many responsibilities etc etc.

I would love to be a writer of creative fiction for teenagers so the MA Creative Writing would be perfect for me. Sadly, I’m ineligible for postgrad funding so I need to save some pennies!

Quietvoiceplease · 25/05/2019 16:07

I would like to study something economics-related. I have covered elements of this in various parts of my first and subsequent degrees, but would like to feel much better grounded in economic theory than I currently am. This would certainly help in my day job, but the interest would primarily be simply for the joy of learning.

boptanana · 25/05/2019 17:14

Postgraduate Certificate in Professional Studies in Education

Nikita90 · 25/05/2019 18:45

A PGCE so I could fulfill my dream of becoming a primary school teacher!

tobee · 25/05/2019 21:13

History. I did a degree in Classical Civilisation years ago. Now I want to do the rest of history lol Grin

Grumpasaurus · 25/05/2019 21:43

MA in Creative Writing without a doubt. I so want to write a few novels... though I do genuinely love my work now, which is what makes it hard to leave.

cinabar · 25/05/2019 22:10

I have always wanted to do my MBA (Master of Business Administration), pretty sure that would help me get my dream job. :-)

CopperPan · 26/05/2019 01:18

I'd love to study BA Art History, although it would mainly be for my own interest as I'm too settled in my life to want to deal with climbing the career ladder in any way.
