No doubt, at some point in our lives, we’ve all been asked ‘What is your dream job?’. For many of us, the answer we gave probably isn’t the career we’ve ended up doing. The Open University would like to know which course you would study to help you achieve your dream job.

Maybe you’ve always dreamed of doing a particular job and you know there are courses that would help you to achieve it. Perhaps you’re already in the career you want but hope to move up to the next level? Or there is a course you’re really interested in taking and then you could visualise a career from there?

We’ve partnered with The Open University so that they can help MNers discover the range of courses and qualifications available. Take a look on their website here.

Here’s what The Open University has to say: "Every year, 1000’s of students from all walks of life enrol with The OU to develop new skills and boost their career prospects. With a wide range of subjects and qualifications that have no formal entry requirements, you can achieve your dream career with our flexible courses. Fit study around your life, your family, work and other commitments and get ongoing support from our expert tutors and student services team."

Simply post The OU course you would choose to study and the career of your dreams on the thread below to enter the prize draw. One lucky winner will receive a £300 voucher of their choice provided by Mumsnet (from a list).

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw.

I'd love to train to be a midwife.

Sparklepants3 · 20/05/2019 19:03

Psychology - I've always regretted studying what I did instead of this. I'd love to help more people with mental health problems, I have a massive interest in the brain and the way that people act and why

Biomedicine, I was always very good at Science, Chemistry especially. I would love to go back into Education but worry I would struggle now

RedElephants · 21/05/2019 09:31

I have 2, Midwifery or Teacher.
Can not afford to do either and not the brightest of sparks, and at almost 53, I personally think I'm to old to be doing years of training.

I remember watching a BBC programme in 2011 (I think it was) that was part of the Horizon series. It was called "Seeing Stars" and it was all about the latest new research going on in astronomy. That made me think twice about the career I had embarked on.

I also remember at university that a couple of my friends had boyfriends in the Dept of Physics & Astronomy (this was at UCL and the physics & astronomy dept was 90% male) and hearing about some of the things the guys were doing in astrophysics always sounded really interesting.

So, if I were ever in the position to give up my current salary then my dream job would be to be involved with astronomy somehow (and get to go and work at some place like the VLT in Chile).

The natural fit for an OU course would be your BSc Natural Sciences (Astronomy and Planetary Science)

I would love to study neuroscience. I looked into it a few years ago after I was made redundant. OU course looked great but I had a young baby and was hoping to have a couple more so didn’t think I’d have the time. Never say never though...

Nicole1709 · 21/05/2019 22:26

I love my current job in finance, but I would take a language course so I could do the same job abroad.

jacd77 · 21/05/2019 23:43

I would love the forensics medical course or criminology, I have such a fascination for anything like that, i always wanted to be a crime scene investigator or medical examiner.

jitterbugintomybrain · 22/05/2019 07:14

History but no idea what my dream job is yet!

rivierliedje · 22/05/2019 08:10

It would have to be both creative writing, as I love this and would like more confidence in it, and maths/statistics for epidemiology. I would love to move in to a more public health based role while doing some writing as well.

EinsteinsArousedSausagesHCB · 22/05/2019 13:06

Forensic psychology

riverislands · 22/05/2019 13:18

I think you need to offer more shorter courses, approved by professional bodies, and linked to actual jobs.

UpOnDown · 22/05/2019 15:24

Occupational therapy, unfortunately OU don't offer it.

Sleepybumble · 22/05/2019 19:51
