No doubt, at some point in our lives, we’ve all been asked ‘What is your dream job?’. For many of us, the answer we gave probably isn’t the career we’ve ended up doing. The Open University would like to know which course you would study to help you achieve your dream job.

Maybe you’ve always dreamed of doing a particular job and you know there are courses that would help you to achieve it. Perhaps you’re already in the career you want but hope to move up to the next level? Or there is a course you’re really interested in taking and then you could visualise a career from there?

We’ve partnered with The Open University so that they can help MNers discover the range of courses and qualifications available. Take a look on their website here.

Here’s what The Open University has to say: "Every year, 1000’s of students from all walks of life enrol with The OU to develop new skills and boost their career prospects. With a wide range of subjects and qualifications that have no formal entry requirements, you can achieve your dream career with our flexible courses. Fit study around your life, your family, work and other commitments and get ongoing support from our expert tutors and student services team."

Simply post The OU course you would choose to study and the career of your dreams on the thread below to enter the prize draw. One lucky winner will receive a £300 voucher of their choice provided by Mumsnet (from a list).

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw.

I'd choose the BA (Honours) English Literature and Creative Writing, and try to become a writer.

MakeTeaNotWar · 18/05/2019 11:44

I was quite good at languages at school so I'd love to polish my French or learn a new language like Spanish or Italian.

Like my mum, I would do a later in life postgraduate degree in engineering !

mkinsey · 18/05/2019 13:15

The MA in Creative Writing would be great for me. I've been wanting to write a book for a long time, based on my crazy travel experience....my work has taken me all over the place and funny and unusual situations always seem to happen to me! I keep jotting down notes here and there but I think this course would really help me structure it well and fine-tune my writing style. And give me that extra motivation I need!

I would love to do a Counselling course but never found the time and money at the same time.

Louise7777 · 18/05/2019 14:41

Geography degree. I would use this to then start teacher training to be a secondary school teacher

WowOoo · 18/05/2019 15:09

I would love to do Natural Sciences or just biology. Didn't do very well in it at school.

SuzCG · 18/05/2019 17:22

What I'd really, really love to do when I come back in a different life is be a Midwife - can't do that with the OU.

The course that interests me most then is the 'Childhood & Youth Studies'. This would seem to be leading to many career options & choices that interest me and I firmly believe that young people are our future and they should all be given opportunities and chances to shine.

I'm looking at level 5 maths courses to teach functional maths, I could do functional English with the quals I already have but maths is a challenge and I love that! I find English too dry.

DecumusScotti · 18/05/2019 21:23

Well, I have just signed up for a BA in History with the OU, which I am very excited about. Grin No idea about a career, but I do write a bit, so something along those lines, I suppose.

Beccaw24 · 18/05/2019 22:01

I would love to study child psychology. Since becoming pregnant with my first child and raising my step son it’s something that has really interested me and a career I would love to start.

sarahm1234 · 18/05/2019 22:11

Beauty so I could work as a beauty therapist

callmecrazybut · 18/05/2019 22:26

I've always wanted to be a school librarian. I could possibly get it with my work experience but I think they'd want a related degree- not sure if ou do this though?

Bea3998273 · 18/05/2019 23:02

MA in social work, had a place at a local uni but couldn't afford to take it up. Looking at other ways to get in and hoping something works out for me. It's an area I've worked in unqualified for nearly 10 years. It would change my whole life and I hope I would be able to change others lives also.

Having had my own personal experiences with counseling I would love to get the relevant qualifications to be able to practice as a counselor myself.
Having worked voluntarily with the nhs supporting those with drug and alcohol addictions, I feel this to be my calling.
This is also a good time, my eldest son has left home and my daughter(18)is immersed in her own choices! I now have the time to focus on myself and what I want to do and this is it 😊

goldenretriever1978 · 19/05/2019 06:24

NotPennysBoat · 19/05/2019 08:10

Stormy76 · 19/05/2019 09:11

Psychology MSC, I have already completed a health and Social Care degree with the OU. I haven’t been able to justify the psychology course because it isn’t accredited. I would also like to do a social work courses but would need to be in a role working with people and have to get funding from work, neither option is available to me.
