No doubt, at some point in our lives, we’ve all been asked ‘What is your dream job?’. For many of us, the answer we gave probably isn’t the career we’ve ended up doing. The Open University would like to know which course you would study to help you achieve your dream job.

Maybe you’ve always dreamed of doing a particular job and you know there are courses that would help you to achieve it. Perhaps you’re already in the career you want but hope to move up to the next level? Or there is a course you’re really interested in taking and then you could visualise a career from there?

We’ve partnered with The Open University so that they can help MNers discover the range of courses and qualifications available. Take a look on their website here.

Here’s what The Open University has to say: "Every year, 1000’s of students from all walks of life enrol with The OU to develop new skills and boost their career prospects. With a wide range of subjects and qualifications that have no formal entry requirements, you can achieve your dream career with our flexible courses. Fit study around your life, your family, work and other commitments and get ongoing support from our expert tutors and student services team."

Simply post The OU course you would choose to study and the career of your dreams on the thread below to enter the prize draw. One lucky winner will receive a £300 voucher of their choice provided by Mumsnet (from a list).

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw.

An MA in translation so that I can help people who struggle to communicate. I have first-hand experience of not being able to explain things properly in the language of the country and how isolating and lonely it can feel.

Creative writing so that I can write a novel

Laurajjj561 · 16/05/2019 19:07

I know this probably isn’t the best job in the work or the best paid but I left school at 13 and wanted to be a chef but didn’t get the chance as had my son at 18 but if I had the chance I would still love to train to be a chef

CallmeBadJanet · 16/05/2019 19:15

I would do a Diploma of Higher Education in Counselling. I would love to build on my experience supporting children and their families.

Marg2k8 · 16/05/2019 19:20

I'm not interested in my dream job, as I am approaching retirement. I would like to study law just to keep my mind active.

foxessocks · 16/05/2019 19:32

I'd love to do English literature but not really for a particular job!

wobblywindows · 16/05/2019 19:53

I'm currently looking at getting Microsoft Certification for Excel, and nothing in the OU Computing and IT section really interests me (especially the emphasis on statistics). SM358 might tempt me - but then I'd probably just buy the books off Amazon ;) and spend the rest on a holiday.

Beach11 · 16/05/2019 20:03

BA Religion, Philosophy and Ethics. Would love to study this when the children have grown up. Wish I had chosen this subject the first time around!

ThomasRichard · 16/05/2019 21:10

I’m studying International Studoes with the OU. I don’t know about landing me my dream job but it’s certainly introduced me to concepts I find interesting and will be good for career progression.

SSCRASE123 · 16/05/2019 21:11

Marine Biology. I would love to be out in the tropics investigating and hoping to protect the oceans and wildlife.

sarah861421 · 16/05/2019 21:11

JeanieJardine55 · 16/05/2019 21:15

I would like to do accounting although I suspect I’ve left a change of career too late.

Osquito · 16/05/2019 22:00

I’d like either Accounting (not a passion but I think this makes for a relatively stable job option) or something like Art History/Fine Arts (would love to work in a private art gallery or art museum)... and for ‘fun’ French or Spanish or Greek (not new to these), as languages has always been one of my strongest points.

Anj123 · 16/05/2019 22:16

I’ve always thought about being a nutritionist but haven’t the qualifications so wondered if there was an OU course?

daisyduke66 · 16/05/2019 22:19

It would be OU English Literature combined with Creative Writing. My dream job would be in publishing.

dadshere · 16/05/2019 22:54

buckley1983 · 16/05/2019 23:15

I'd love to study for a BA in English Literature & Creative Writing. I have always loved reading & writing & to have the opportunity to increase my knowledge of literature & develop my own skills in creative writing would be amazing.
Books have always been a huge part of my life & reading together with my son now is one of the best parts of my day.

Lleeaahh1992 · 16/05/2019 23:33

Policing/uniformed services degree. I'd love to be a police officer.

OddBoots · 17/05/2019 06:06

I would love to see the OU offer a greater range of conversion masters options for students with a degree who want to change direction.

I personally have a Natural Sciences degree (from the OU) but want to study computer systems, I'd love to do that with an OU MSc.
