No doubt, at some point in our lives, we’ve all been asked ‘What is your dream job?’. For many of us, the answer we gave probably isn’t the career we’ve ended up doing. The Open University would like to know which course you would study to help you achieve your dream job.

Maybe you’ve always dreamed of doing a particular job and you know there are courses that would help you to achieve it. Perhaps you’re already in the career you want but hope to move up to the next level? Or there is a course you’re really interested in taking and then you could visualise a career from there?

We’ve partnered with The Open University so that they can help MNers discover the range of courses and qualifications available. Take a look on their website here.

Here’s what The Open University has to say: "Every year, 1000’s of students from all walks of life enrol with The OU to develop new skills and boost their career prospects. With a wide range of subjects and qualifications that have no formal entry requirements, you can achieve your dream career with our flexible courses. Fit study around your life, your family, work and other commitments and get ongoing support from our expert tutors and student services team."

Simply post The OU course you would choose to study and the career of your dreams on the thread below to enter the prize draw. One lucky winner will receive a £300 voucher of their choice provided by Mumsnet (from a list).

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw.

I'd like to do an MsC in meteorology. It's be nice to have a formal qualification in it. But there aren't any nearby job opportunities and I don't want to uproot, so there we go.

I would love to be a midwife, so midwifery.

Or social work. Or family support. Or something like that. I am way too old to be doing anything like that now though.
I've gone through life not really knowing what I'm doing and now it's too lateSad

Working as a nurse, I would choose to do a diploma in counselling. This would be hugely beneficial and relevant to my work. Surprised at what a wide range of courses the OU offers.

SusanWalker · 16/05/2019 10:26

I would do the classics degree. I've developed a real love of history over the last few years. Then I would work in a museum. Heaven.

Maddaddam · 16/05/2019 11:21

I've checked out the OU French and Spanish degree before, I would like a MFL degree and then to take up a job working in Spain or France.

BSc (Honours) Mental Health Nursing for me as our mental health is becoming as important as our physical health and i would like to be there for the people who need it

HavelockVetinari · 16/05/2019 12:01

A BA in German - I already speak French but given my husband's family's location it would be really useful to speak German properly with a view to move their for a year or two.

Dormouse1940 · 16/05/2019 12:01

The absolute dream would be Art History, then specialising in the history of dress and textiles, then landing a job in a museum.... sigh...

Realistically, I could get back into studying the management course I had to give up when our family relocated a couple of years ago.
Maybe some day...

PGCE in education to be a teacher!

Wilberforce2 · 16/05/2019 12:54

SAHM with zero childcare and my youngest has only just started reception means any kind of job is pointless! I have basic GCSE qualifications so training for anything would take years and even then what do I do with the kids while I work?!

Dream jobs would be paediatric nursing or a social worker as I worked with Social Services before having children. I can still look and dream though right!!

ahsudb · 16/05/2019 12:55

I'd love to do some courses on looking after dogs and rehoming them. My dreams always been to open up a rescue centre for sick, abandoned and mistreated dogs.

happysouls · 16/05/2019 13:20

I don't know what my dream job would be. I've taken a few courses over the years and really enjoyed them. I did an open university course for a year a long time ago. I think it was 'living with technology'. I've done various computer courses. I also spent an intensive 5 months studying for financial planning certificates. And in a totally opposite direction I went on 2 evening college courses to learn Reflexology and Indian Head Massage! I've loved learning!

Faybexxx · 16/05/2019 13:25

BA (Honours) Language Studies with French and Spanish

sc00ter · 16/05/2019 13:36

I would love to own my own bakery, so a business course and anything foodie.

farhanac · 16/05/2019 14:06

Learn another language

JanuarySun · 16/05/2019 14:40

I was looking for something creative, like graphic design or textile design but couldn't find anything. So I'll choose classical studies for fun.

zippyants · 16/05/2019 14:53

I would love to do an art course. Wish I had done it when younger and would love to them go self employed as an artist.................ah the dream.

Joannewootton3 · 16/05/2019 14:55

I would love to do the, BA (Honours) Education Studies (Primary).
I’m currently qualified in EYFS at level 3, so I have previous experience of nursery care.
Becoming a reception teacher would be my dream and I would find it so rewarding.
I understand the challenges and tests that would be put in place to become one but it’s just something I have always dreamed of.

Thanks for such a amazing competition!
So generous of you.

Good luck everyone.

Computer coding so I can work from home :)

sarah25037 · 16/05/2019 15:50

I am currently studying childhood and youth studies with the ou to one day become a teacher

lemonjumper · 16/05/2019 15:53

I'd love to do Data Science, as it's such an interesting field.

Funkyferret · 16/05/2019 16:23

I'd love to study the MSc in Environmental Management. I work in a related field at the moment but think I'd find roles in this area far more interesting and challenging.

ZekesMomma · 16/05/2019 16:31

I'd probably try and complete a degree in Criminology. I started one about 10 years ago whilst I was working in the field, but unfortunately after the first year, they cut funding for anyone who was employed (regardless of income), so I just couldn't afford to continue. It was a shame, as I got a distinction in my first year. At this point I'm disabled and have a kid and it seems like a bit of a pipe dream, but if I do it over, I'd finish what I started. The career path would be working in the prevention of organised crime, but at more of a research level than in my past.

fishnships · 16/05/2019 16:56

Zoology for me.

phillie1 · 16/05/2019 17:38
