Everyone needs a little boost now and then. We all have those frantically busy days - whether at work, at home taking care of the kids or just rushing around trying to keep all those proverbial plates spinning – and it’s easy to forget how to keep yourself well nourished and energised. Not only can making better nutritional choices help keep you energised, but also little emotional boosts such as listening to your favourite song can also have a huge effect on how we handle life’s demands and whatever the day throws at us! With that in mind Nairn’s would really like to know what gives you an energy boost?

Here’s what Nairn’s have to say: “Nairn’s are all about ‘grabbing life by the oats’ and over the next few weeks we’ll be bringing you some exclusive, energising tips - we’d like to think it’s a pretty good fit considering just how naturally energising oats can be for you. You’ll find interviews with our inspiring and energetic ambassadors, expert advice from our resident nutritional therapist and loads more over on our website.

So, if you’ve got a go-to snack or energising habit that you swear by to keep you up and running, why not share it with the community? You could be lucky enough to win a hamper of incredible goodies from Nairn’s and friends, worth £150!”

What part of the day are you most likely to feel the need for an energy boost? What are the danger signs that your child’s energy is flagging? What foods or snacks do you give them to stop them getting ‘hangry’?! Do you get an energy boost from having a bit of family time? Maybe you get a boost from listening to your favourite playlist on your way to work? Would you say that exercise is what helps give you a boost? And if so what snacks do you eat to make sure you keep your energy going after exercise? What are your favourite breakfasts and lunches that help keep you going for the day? And what foods do you avoid that make you ‘crash’? How do you incorporate oats into your diet?

Whatever gives you an energy boost, share them on the thread below and you’ll be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a Nairn’s hamper worth £150 and one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Ten minutes ‘resting my eyes’ in the afternoon 😉

Yoozanaim · 18/05/2019 17:11

Banana smoothie with various berries. (Maybe with oats blended in.)

SuzCG · 18/05/2019 17:17

A cup of black coffee and a small flapjack are my go-to energy boosts.

My kids get whingy & lethargic and lose all their colour (look really, really pale) when their energy levels are dipping. They reach into the cupboards and eat whatever they get their hands on - fortunately it tends to be full of cereal bars etc. Doesn't seem to matter to them what they have - they just need food!

We love porridge and oatcakes! Oats are a big part in our diet! We also make banana flapjacks for snacks

Somethingorother82 · 18/05/2019 18:02

I love a good jacket potato and baked beans for my lunch. It really does give me an energy boost to get me through the afternoon!

FannyFifer · 18/05/2019 18:03

Nightshift worker so between 4 & 5am is my time for struggling, I usually have an early breakfast of porridge & a banana.

user1485629191 · 18/05/2019 19:49

A banana or chocolate!

Amber0685 · 18/05/2019 19:57

Banana, 10 min walk then a coffee at about 4pm

somuchinfo · 18/05/2019 21:07

I am gluten free so for me it's an evening snack of Nairn's gluten free cheese oatcakes with pate! With some grapes on the side.

BeeMyBaby · 18/05/2019 21:40

Oats, I love them in so many things like porridge and crumble and biscuits , I find them a great slow release pick me up

couzels · 19/05/2019 05:26

I usually go for something sweet like chocolate, but a cup of hot chocolate does the same thing. If I need sustained energy there is nothing like having a big bowl of porridge to see you through the day.

goldenretriever1978 · 19/05/2019 06:36

Sorry but coffee for me to get me through the day!

purplepandas · 19/05/2019 07:53

A walk is what typically helps. Try and get a lunchtime walk where I can.

Joffle · 19/05/2019 08:06

Our lot always have porridge in the morning and that seems to keep them going fairly well. If we are out and about I try to take apples and crackers with us to keep the energy levels up. For me either a good sing a long in the car or a fast walk in the fresh air boosts my alertness though sometimes nothing but caffeine will do!

NotPennysBoat · 19/05/2019 08:16

I have a good breakfast of porridge, almonds and honey which keeps me going until lunchtime. I start flagging mid afternoon usually and more often than not will reach for the chocolate! Need to break that habit with a healthier snack that fulfils my sweet craving.

HotChocolateLover · 19/05/2019 10:08

My go to snack is not particularly healthy but is a toffee crisp with beef monster munch. Gives me a bit of a boost. At work though, I love listening to the Greatest Showman soundtrack on Spotify or a Queen playlist as both really cheer me up and make the day fly by.

sadiewoohoo · 19/05/2019 10:27

Bananas seem to keep me going for a while. I tend to stick to that flavour in oatbars too

novadragon84 · 19/05/2019 12:47

Coffee and fruit. Both give me the energy to continue on with my day.

addverbaan · 19/05/2019 14:52

Oatcakes with creme cheese!

miamonkeys · 19/05/2019 15:37

I eat gluten free, so snacks can be tricky, but oatcakes are a great booster to my energy levels, especially with mashed banana and peanut butter x

purplevamp · 19/05/2019 17:49

Having a 20 minute nap during the day helps me be more alert, but this is obviously done after work Grin

katieskatie82 · 19/05/2019 18:03

i normally snack on fruit to give me an energy boost. Apples and grapes are my fave

Ldeemum · 19/05/2019 19:26

I take snacks with me to work as I find I can have a lull at 10 and 3pm. Babybels with a nairns super seeded oakcake or humus with carrot or celery sticks!

mishknight · 19/05/2019 21:01

I haven't got any food ideas that give me energy but a session of yoga always gives me a boost and helps me to face the world

bryonywilson91 · 19/05/2019 21:15

I make my own protein balls out of dates and almonds, they're delicious and the perfect snack
