Everyone needs a little boost now and then. We all have those frantically busy days - whether at work, at home taking care of the kids or just rushing around trying to keep all those proverbial plates spinning – and it’s easy to forget how to keep yourself well nourished and energised. Not only can making better nutritional choices help keep you energised, but also little emotional boosts such as listening to your favourite song can also have a huge effect on how we handle life’s demands and whatever the day throws at us! With that in mind Nairn’s would really like to know what gives you an energy boost?

Here’s what Nairn’s have to say: “Nairn’s are all about ‘grabbing life by the oats’ and over the next few weeks we’ll be bringing you some exclusive, energising tips - we’d like to think it’s a pretty good fit considering just how naturally energising oats can be for you. You’ll find interviews with our inspiring and energetic ambassadors, expert advice from our resident nutritional therapist and loads more over on our website.

So, if you’ve got a go-to snack or energising habit that you swear by to keep you up and running, why not share it with the community? You could be lucky enough to win a hamper of incredible goodies from Nairn’s and friends, worth £150!”

What part of the day are you most likely to feel the need for an energy boost? What are the danger signs that your child’s energy is flagging? What foods or snacks do you give them to stop them getting ‘hangry’?! Do you get an energy boost from having a bit of family time? Maybe you get a boost from listening to your favourite playlist on your way to work? Would you say that exercise is what helps give you a boost? And if so what snacks do you eat to make sure you keep your energy going after exercise? What are your favourite breakfasts and lunches that help keep you going for the day? And what foods do you avoid that make you ‘crash’? How do you incorporate oats into your diet?

Whatever gives you an energy boost, share them on the thread below and you’ll be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a Nairn’s hamper worth £150 and one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

I’m breastfeeding at the moment, which along with an under active thyroid means my energy levels can go south very easily! To counteract the under active thyroid I used to have a nap and some chocolate, which just made me more lethargic - and I put on 6 stone in a year! I have since lost (most of) the weight, and I try to choose a brisk walk and an oaty cereal bar instead when the energy levels are flagging. Porridge for breakfast, and sometimes also for lunch!! Really increases my energy levels through the morning and into the afternoon, and a little honey on the top gives me an instant boost. Oatcakes are great for snacking on - especially the cheese ones, as a replacement for something unhealthy like a packet of crisps. My son loves the cheese oatcakes as an after school snack, and they seem to fill his tummy for much longer than anything else (aside from a full meal!).

Oat cakes with cottage cheese and a full fat yogurt

sweir1 · 20/05/2019 15:11

Sugar, sugar and more sugar. I am trying to wean myself off it but this is not easy

Oh my goodness! How can anyone not feel energised by music, it's definitely my go to. Especially when the 3 year old loves a dance round the kitchen too. We both love bananas, our snack of choice everytime. You can do anything with a banana, in a sandwich, on toast, in a milkshake, in a bowl sliced with milk... The list goes on. These oats sound delicious, might try them with some sliced banana.

I cannot beat a plaina dn simple banana to keep up my energy!

quizqueen · 20/05/2019 19:43

porridge oats for breakfast with my own added fruit- no salt, no refined sugar

bluebump · 20/05/2019 20:54

My energy levels start to flag after lunch, in that time between lunch and dinner. I always find fresh air does me the world of good and if I am going to snack, I’d have a banana or some marmite rice cakes.

papaver · 20/05/2019 21:46

Playing sport, getting outdoors and bananas all give me an energy boost but I am also guilty of reaching for fruit and nut chocolate quite frequently when I need a pick me up.

Stiffasaboard · 20/05/2019 22:08

With kids doing exams right now, I have been making huge batches of gooey flapjacks and then shouting them down from their rooms for a study break in the garden of a cuppa and a flapjack.

Can’t beat a cup of builders tea to revive even the most flagging of spirits.

They take oatcakes and cheese to eat pre exams as the slow release energy keeps them going without the post sugar lull they get from biscuits.

Sparklepants3 · 20/05/2019 23:16

Coffee! I cannot live without coffee!
I do also think that small naps give me a boost, and fresh air!

tubbyj · 20/05/2019 23:18

Going out side and walking, and letting the children run and play always gives us all a boost. If I feel my energy levels dropping whilst out I keep dates and nuts for me to eat. For the children it will be chopped fruit in a container. And of course we are all encouraged to drink water which keeps every ones energy levels up!

mynellie · 21/05/2019 17:54

i have an energy boosting snack of a flapjack or ginger snaps

Thiswayorthatway · 21/05/2019 22:09

My DC telling me they love me gives me a great energy boost

TellMeItsNotTrue · 21/05/2019 23:19

Lively music gets me moving and I get a lot more done when I put some on

Bananas are great for long lasting boost rather than a quick spike then long fall back down

jitterbugintomybrain · 22/05/2019 07:18

Exercise - a bike ride, a run or a walk in the woods.

rantinggran · 22/05/2019 15:49

coffee and cake :)

michael888 · 22/05/2019 17:04

A few smoothies first thing in the morning.

GingerRogers84 · 22/05/2019 19:28

If I'm feeling sluggish I find that doing something active like a brisk walk or a ten minute run give me boost that lasts all day.

Sleepybumble · 22/05/2019 19:44

Dd3.5 loves oatcakes and will happily have one as a snack to keep her going between meals.

Tsuyoikochan · 22/05/2019 21:32

I love a walk round the park after breakfast. Feeding the ducks and seeing them running around makes me feel energised!
