Everyone needs a little boost now and then. We all have those frantically busy days - whether at work, at home taking care of the kids or just rushing around trying to keep all those proverbial plates spinning – and it’s easy to forget how to keep yourself well nourished and energised. Not only can making better nutritional choices help keep you energised, but also little emotional boosts such as listening to your favourite song can also have a huge effect on how we handle life’s demands and whatever the day throws at us! With that in mind Nairn’s would really like to know what gives you an energy boost?

Here’s what Nairn’s have to say: “Nairn’s are all about ‘grabbing life by the oats’ and over the next few weeks we’ll be bringing you some exclusive, energising tips - we’d like to think it’s a pretty good fit considering just how naturally energising oats can be for you. You’ll find interviews with our inspiring and energetic ambassadors, expert advice from our resident nutritional therapist and loads more over on our website.

So, if you’ve got a go-to snack or energising habit that you swear by to keep you up and running, why not share it with the community? You could be lucky enough to win a hamper of incredible goodies from Nairn’s and friends, worth £150!”

What part of the day are you most likely to feel the need for an energy boost? What are the danger signs that your child’s energy is flagging? What foods or snacks do you give them to stop them getting ‘hangry’?! Do you get an energy boost from having a bit of family time? Maybe you get a boost from listening to your favourite playlist on your way to work? Would you say that exercise is what helps give you a boost? And if so what snacks do you eat to make sure you keep your energy going after exercise? What are your favourite breakfasts and lunches that help keep you going for the day? And what foods do you avoid that make you ‘crash’? How do you incorporate oats into your diet?

Whatever gives you an energy boost, share them on the thread below and you’ll be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a Nairn’s hamper worth £150 and one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Porridge with banana keeps me going until lunchtime. A coffee made with all milk gives me a boost mid afternoon.

CLINKERVISION1 · 15/05/2019 18:35

A nice Banana normally does it

Lorlypop · 15/05/2019 18:37

Sunshine ☀️

Val1234 · 15/05/2019 18:59

Think what gives me energy is a banana on oatcakes in the afternoon

ang65t · 15/05/2019 19:17

a bowl of cornflakes does it for me, usually mid afternoon.

jandoc · 15/05/2019 19:19

having a little break from work helps get me going again

Mitcholiver · 15/05/2019 19:19

Going for a run!! Although I need the motivation to actually go, but I know if I do go out for a run afterwards I feel so much better for it.

Minnibix · 15/05/2019 19:35

I get a mid afternoon slump so for an energy boost, I have a cup of black coffee and a banana or a protein bar with peanuts, it gives me enough of a boost to get me to 5 o clock

Ikea1234 · 15/05/2019 19:40

A good lunch for me or snack consists of something like humus and crackers or the fine milled oatcakes. Just enough to take the edge off the appetite until mealtime. I find it I don't have something carby I don't feel like I've eaten enough.

A NICE CUP OF TEA AND A BISCUIT WITH MY FEET UP

jessiecat333 · 15/05/2019 19:53

Family time, snuggles and hot chocolate give me an energy boost

avery64 · 15/05/2019 19:58

I find that a gym and swim session is perfect for both re-energising and relaxing me.

Hannahscuff · 15/05/2019 20:01

I find getting some fresh air gives me a boost. Even if I’m feeling tired and it’s the last thing I want to do I try and get out for a short walk everyday

jcyclops · 15/05/2019 20:03

It may sound a little weird, but I get an energy boost from anything LOUD. Music is the most common but fireworks are the best. Powered garden tools are also great.

LeeR1985 · 15/05/2019 20:04

I always get an energy boost from music, food doesn't do the trick for me unfortunately! I like to listen to an artist called "2WEI", they make dramatic music that you hear in trailers and stuff, they're great :D

essexchic · 15/05/2019 20:07

I find Afternoons is when my energy dips. I love the Nairns Gluten Free crackers with peanut butter followed by a banana, perfect.

ellie1008 · 15/05/2019 20:15

carbs are so demonised but they're so so important. i always start the day with some kind of carb, for example rye bread toasted with avocado on top.

rachelmccraith · 15/05/2019 20:27

If I'm feeling under-motivated, I like taking the dog out for a walk in the countryside where I live. Getting out in the fresh air, enjoying the wildlife and chatting with fellow dog walkers always gives me a boost. I come home feeling refreshed and ready to tackle whatever needs doing

racheybr · 15/05/2019 20:30

I get energised by a mid afternoon walk, it only needs to be 20 mins (although more is great) but somewhere peaceful and quiet where I can feel part of nature and hear birdsong. For physical energy, I feel like I need to snack mid morning and midafternoon (love anything oats based) and another great pic me up is sparkling water or fragrant tea!

cheekychicken24 · 15/05/2019 20:34

Fruit & coffee mostly! Anything I can grab quickly, although I do think a balanced snack would be a better idea!

strawberrisc · 15/05/2019 20:36

In the morning it's hot water and lemon to drink, grapefruit to eat then greek honey yoghurt over bran followed by a strong coffee.

MrRichTea · 15/05/2019 20:38

Starburst, little cubes of sugar!

sammylea80 · 15/05/2019 20:48

I know it's bad but chocolate is my pickup food. A nice cup of coffee always helps too.
