Everyone needs a little boost now and then. We all have those frantically busy days - whether at work, at home taking care of the kids or just rushing around trying to keep all those proverbial plates spinning – and it’s easy to forget how to keep yourself well nourished and energised. Not only can making better nutritional choices help keep you energised, but also little emotional boosts such as listening to your favourite song can also have a huge effect on how we handle life’s demands and whatever the day throws at us! With that in mind Nairn’s would really like to know what gives you an energy boost?

Here’s what Nairn’s have to say: “Nairn’s are all about ‘grabbing life by the oats’ and over the next few weeks we’ll be bringing you some exclusive, energising tips - we’d like to think it’s a pretty good fit considering just how naturally energising oats can be for you. You’ll find interviews with our inspiring and energetic ambassadors, expert advice from our resident nutritional therapist and loads more over on our website.

So, if you’ve got a go-to snack or energising habit that you swear by to keep you up and running, why not share it with the community? You could be lucky enough to win a hamper of incredible goodies from Nairn’s and friends, worth £150!”

What part of the day are you most likely to feel the need for an energy boost? What are the danger signs that your child’s energy is flagging? What foods or snacks do you give them to stop them getting ‘hangry’?! Do you get an energy boost from having a bit of family time? Maybe you get a boost from listening to your favourite playlist on your way to work? Would you say that exercise is what helps give you a boost? And if so what snacks do you eat to make sure you keep your energy going after exercise? What are your favourite breakfasts and lunches that help keep you going for the day? And what foods do you avoid that make you ‘crash’? How do you incorporate oats into your diet?

Whatever gives you an energy boost, share them on the thread below and you’ll be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a Nairn’s hamper worth £150 and one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

a power nap or a brisk walk usually do the trick for me

Irene1631 · 15/05/2019 20:52

Porridge for breakfast sees me through the morning and I often have homemade soup for lunch with an oatcake rather than bread with it. Tastes really good! And mid afternoon I try and stick to a banana rather than the officebis uits but it's really hard when everyone else is inching custard creams!!

lolamia91 · 15/05/2019 20:55

chocolate always chocolate

zeezee33 · 15/05/2019 21:09

Natural yogurt gives me a boost, sometimes with added strawberries and blueberries if for an extra boost

freefan · 15/05/2019 21:19

I find a good bowl of Weetabix sets me up for tackling the school run and housework, then a banana smoothie and Nak'd bar on the way into work gives the the energy boost I need to avoid an early afternoon slump and keeps me going through the school pick up until dinner is ready.

Pmliu · 15/05/2019 21:25

Handful of mixed nuts and blueberries

MAForster · 15/05/2019 21:30

Coffee and a Kit-Kat in the middle of the morning

emms88 · 15/05/2019 21:48

Coffee gives me an energy boost.

Bawdrip · 15/05/2019 21:49

Berries and cacao nibs in cream in the afternoon. I don't drink coffee but the caffeine in the cacao gives me a super boost. My boys have porridge every morning with either berries or chocolate spread.

A lovely sit down with a cup of tea and a couple Nairn's oatcakes!

potofdreams4 · 15/05/2019 22:12

Coffee and cake ;)

pfcpompeysarah · 15/05/2019 22:25

A bracing walk along the seafront, taking in the view and enjoying the fresh air.

MeakTiger · 15/05/2019 22:55

Genuinely the Nairns cheese oatcakes are a staple; the kids prefer them to things like Chedders or sweet biscuits so if I’m flagging I’ll often grab one or a banana is my other go to.

Or coffee. With 2 sugars. But I shouldn’t admit to that one!

Cailin7 · 15/05/2019 23:13

some fresh air and walk with our dog energises me

lhlee62 · 15/05/2019 23:15

A brisk walk, even if it's just running up the stairs to get something can make me feel a bit more energised

obi1kinobi · 15/05/2019 23:22

A cup of coffee

TutsiFrutsi · 15/05/2019 23:50

Tai Chi does it for me!

smchadwick · 16/05/2019 07:19

Porridge and bananas for me

emmag1925 · 16/05/2019 07:44

Either a dose of fresh air or a nice bath to make me feel fresh and energized.

Foggy7777 · 16/05/2019 07:52

I find the time I need an energy boost is around 4pm, I will grab a banana or cracker with palm oil free peanut butter.

dovebetty · 16/05/2019 08:04

I have a toast with peanut butter and jam, a great start to the day and keeps my hunger pangs at bay.

elizaco · 16/05/2019 08:11

A brisk walk is the best energy booster for me. However sluggish I feel and however reluctant to walk I am, it really is worth the effort! Snack-wise, I would usually choose a cereal bar or flapjack, or a glass of fruit juice. Will definitely try oatcakes though - these sound a more sensible choice.

in82win8 · 16/05/2019 08:17

Porridge made with fruit, nuts and raisins. Oh and soya milk. Yum

jelleng · 16/05/2019 09:42

Chocolate gives me a boost, maybe a banana if the chocolate is all gone!

LOU2ASH · 16/05/2019 10:00

I prefer mine with nothing on.
