NOW CLOSED

Sometimes the thought of rain or heavy wind on a day out can make us want to stay indoors and curl up with a film. But, if bad weather catches you by surprise it might even turn your day out into an adventure. Arla Big Milk would like to hear about the adventures you’ve had because of bad weather.

Here’s what Arla Big Milk has to say: “We know how important it is to get your little explorers out in the world around them, so we’ve partnered with Magic Light to bring you yearlong BIG Adventures. We’re also running an on pack monthly prize draw, available across UK grocery retailers, to give you the chance to win an amazing trip to Chessington World of Adventures Resort. Helping to fuel these BIG Adventures, Arla Big Milk is simply fresh whole milk that’s enriched with essential nutrients. So, if you want to join in on the adventure rain or shine, come visit our site to explore activities for your half term.”

Have you raced to find shelter in the woods when you’ve encountered an unexpected downpour? Perhaps you’ve embraced the rain and gone puddle jumping with your children? Maybe you’ve seen a new side to nature when you’ve been out in the wind and rain? Share below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

We went camping in Dorset in the summer. Unfortunately, we picked the rainiest few days that they ever had recorded in history. We braved the wind and rain to go fossil hunting on Chesil beach but got soaked through to our underwear. When we got back to the tent, everyone had packed up but us and our tent was submerged in about 2 inches of water. Fortunately, we had pitched near to a good pub so we had a great meal, a couple of drinks and slept the night in the car. We went home the next day!

Have had days out at theme parks when the weather has turned, you have to be prepared, and if so , we have just embraced it and stomped about in our wellies and see through macs, its an adventure and we love our good old British weather, if we remember to pack raingear that is !

We went to Cornwall last summer for three weeks, unfortunately we picked the worst three weeks and had all sorts of weather! It was cold, wet and windy but we still embraced it. We walked, swam, had fish and chips and the kids had surf lessons. We love Cornwall but know now to pack for all weathers - rain gear and bobble hats are a must!

staying in Edinburgh during the best from the east meant we couldn't get home for a week but we made the most out of an extrea holiday!!

We absolutely love walking in the rain, bought wetsuits & wellies for us all as we hate staying in. We are so lucky to live in the countryside with plenty on wooded nature walks, so when it pelts down we all scatter and race to different trees to see who can get to shelter first and pretend we're under attack from the elf's in the woods firing marshmallows! lol
Then jump in as many puddles as possible! lol
Whatever the weather, it doesn't matter to us, we love to have as much fun as possible.

Sunshine and showers on the beach is always fun. The kids are going to get wet anyway. So make the most of it and enjoy your time together

We took the little ones to a farm to walk with Alpacas and llamas. The heavens opened and all the fields were completely flooded!
The llamas loved it! They decided to race each other around the field - with us hanging onto their leashes and getting completely covered in mud.
Because we were so very wet and dirty it was one of the few times when we were not shouting at Leo for jumping in puddles - instead we were jumping in right alongside him!

A walk after a downpour last year meant that I could teach my daughter how fun it was to splash in puddles

We stayed in a lodge on the North York Moors some years ago and got snowed in, the children had never soon so much snow and played outside every day. Luckily we had enough provisions to last.

Lizettelamprecht · 23/02/2019 12:02

My tumble dryer trips the electricity even in standby mode?

sandy31 · 23/02/2019 16:57

During a wintry snowy day we decided to go sledging with the family, we were having a great time when Brother in Law decided to have a go, he took off down the slope but forgot to stop at the bottom. So ended our great day out A & E was not what we expected Ted.

tobypercy · 23/02/2019 22:53

we went to watch motor racing, 3 families with young kids and it bucketed down. Couldn't face the queues for the trackside cafe so we put down the back seat in my 4x4 and crammed all the kids in there for a picnic :-)

janekirk · 23/02/2019 23:13

We were camping in our tent a couple of years ago when there were warnings of high winds and torrential rain so the owner/farmer told us to put our tent up in one of his barns. There were cattle at the other end of the barn and chickens and ducks wandering around us, it was absolute bliss and the kids loved being so close to the animals.

laurac1987 · 24/02/2019 10:45

We try and embrace the rain as much as we can and take waterproofs with us in case it walks. On a trip to Bournemouth last year, it poured it down for the whole weekend, but rather than stay inside our accommodation and feel miserable, my DD and I put on our waterproofs and ventured out for an adventure!

sammylea80 · 24/02/2019 10:50

We got stuck in a flood in a hire car in Cuba on the way back from Havana to our hotel. The down pour was so bad the water came up over the bonnet, luckily for us we found a road up into the hills where we could wait it out on higher ground!

grannybiker · 24/02/2019 10:59

When we were children we were gutted to wake to torrential rain when we had a picnic planned - and already made up.
It didn't go to waste. Dad put a sheet over the dining room table so it became our cave. We played board games and ate our picnic there.
It was so much fun, we still do it today with the next generation. And it's not rain dependent!

lhlee62 · 24/02/2019 13:41

We have gone exploring and the weather has gone a bit gloomy, but I looked into the local buses. They do a really good family all day travel ticket which is cheaper than 1 adult and 1 child tickets. We jumped on and off all day going to different places, the kids love a bus adventure.

TowandaForever · 24/02/2019 15:37

@Iggy131313 that is a wonderful picture of you and your son.

TowandaForever · 24/02/2019 15:42

@redhead27 that is a great picture.

Snow has got to be the highlight of any childhood!

And wind can be a fabulous opportunity to rediscover the art of kite flying. A flask of soup in the steamed up car makes it feel even wilder.

sofieellis · 24/02/2019 21:16

We escaped from the rain into the pencil museum at the lake District. We expected it to be boring, but it's brilliant - we thoroughly enjoyed it.

pinkspideruk · 25/02/2019 00:13

Our first trip to Disney World it rained so badly the puddles were ankle deep! We just put on our ponchos and crocs and carried on enjoying the parks. Because there wasnt any lightning all the rides and shows carried on and because of the rain there wasnt any queues so we got to go on pretty much everything and get loads of photos with characters.

When the rain stopped the parks got super busy and all the restaurants which were fully booked emptied out so we got to go have dinner in relative quiet with a minimal wait too

We had snow in istanbul years ago - it was winter but still very odd to have so much snow in Turkey. Up to our knees! So random!! We had to wear everything in the suitcase every day to keep warm. Such a surreal experience.
