For many of us when we see or a hear a reference to a toy from our childhood, we are immediately transported by to a specific time when we were younger playing with that toy...queue all the nostalgic feelings. BRIO would love to know all the toys that give you that nostalgic feeling and what it is about them that makes you feel that way.

Here’s what BRIO have to say: “We just turned 130, yet we feel more vital than ever. And that’s a good thing when working with toys. Because just as play develops children, play has developed us as a company. Smart Tech is the latest integrated technology from BRIO which is adding extra layers of functionality and play value to our timeless toys. The Smart Tech trains can stop, turn around, go slower or go faster using the accessories that are in the range, bringing even more magic to the BRIO World. In a world full of technology and computers, traditional play is at the core of what we do at BRIO. Our Smart Tech range combines clever train technology with traditional play patterns, meaning as parents you don’t need to feel nostalgic for those classic toys as they’re at the heart of everything we do.”

Watch this video on the BRIO Smart tech Engine with Action Tunnel Set:

Is it the Troll Dolls that make you feel nostalgic as you remember spending hours styling their bright pink hair? Perhaps seeing your DC talking to imaginary people on your phone makes you remember you doing the same on your Chatter Telephone? Did you think of yourself as a highly-skilled chef with your Easy-Bake Oven? Would you just spend hours drawing out things on your Etch A Sketch? Or is it good old Play-Doh that always make you feel nostalgic whenever your child plays with it?

Whichever toys make you feel nostalgic, share them on the thread below and everyone who comments will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list) and another four MNers will win a BRIO Smart Tech Engine Set with Action Tunnels, worth £89.95 each.

Thanks and good luck.

Boglins, Thundercats and Cabbage Patch kids!!

I loved playing with all the hand me down toys at my gran's house. A lot of the toys are still at her house to this day :)

Whenever I see buckaroo it takes me back to endless hours of trying to get everything on that donkeys back as a child, still never managed it but it was a great game to play

Cinderella was hugely popular when I was little, and I had a wind up toy of Cinders and the Prince dancing! Also a Cinderella watch with a pink strap. Wish I still had them, they were lost in a house move!

farhanac · 24/10/2018 22:24

I loved playing Guess Who

pennyw85 · 24/10/2018 22:43

Definitely etch a sketch even though I was never very good at it 😂 and a lot of the board games which I now like to buy for my niece and nephew - buckaroo, ker plunk and guess who

Lego, particularly the pirate sets with old style cannons. Hours of fun with my best friend building scenes they trying to knock them down!

sootyo · 25/10/2018 10:44

Tiny tears doll and my brothers lego.

A spinning top - my granny always had one at her house when we were young. Now she’s 98 and a great granny many times over and gave us one as a present. So simple but the kids love it.

Puppy in my pocket and Barbie were my absolute favourites growing up, spent hours playing with them. I also fondly remember my tamagochi which I never understood why my mother hated it.....

emmmaaa26 · 25/10/2018 16:11

I used to love shelly dolls. I could play with them for hours.
Also loved furby's which I know have made a come back recently.

Intotheclouds · 25/10/2018 16:41

Barbies! My mum was going through all the toys she still has in her loft from when we were little for our children to play with and found all my babies and her houses, speed boats, swimming pools, cars etc. She really did live a high life lol! We even turned 5 of them in to spice girls!

Koutouloufari · 25/10/2018 17:17

Brio! Me and my brother would spend hours building tracks and pushing the trains along, we had a ferry and a crane aswell. Even though there’s 10years between us it was the one thing we could play with together happily.

My son is 4 now and has a ridiculous amount of Brio trains! I can’t resist buying him all the great things you get these days, neither can his uncle!

I love that it’s great quality too, my Mum kept all our 70’s and 80’s Brio and it all looks great still and fits with all my son’s new stuff. I love seeing him enjoy a toy that we enjoyed all those years ago. I hadn’t thought about Brio for years until my parents bought my son a My First Railway for his first Christmas and ever once then it brings back lovely memories of my own happy childhood.

My very best toys were the ones that my father made for me: the balsa wood planes that he carefully built, and that we used to fly with an elastic band at weekends, the wooden stilts he made for me for Christmas, the pogo stick (he didn't make that one!),... We weren't well off at all but we never knew that - he made everything special.

And for my younger brothers, the mini pedal cars and the steam traction engines run on white spirit.

Snape · 25/10/2018 19:06

The best toy I ever had as a child was a She-ra doll and castle. Seeing my own children now playing with Polly pockets and Tamagotchi's brings back a lot of memories.

helly27 · 25/10/2018 21:20

Care bears and my little pony

mishknight · 25/10/2018 22:36

For me its Sindy dolls who I always preferred to Barbie. I had the house, the car, the horse, the gig. You name it. Only have to see poor old Sindy on a car boot stall to feel a wash of nostlagia

daisyduke66 · 26/10/2018 15:33

Definitely an Etch-a-Sketch - I loved that! I also have fond memories of my Hornby train set :)

Torsz · 26/10/2018 15:58

For me it's polly pocket - I was so excited when I saw they're back in the shops now and have bought one for my niece for Christmas ☺️ I don't know what it is about them, but I found them so much fun to play with!

Thishatisnotmine · 26/10/2018 16:25

I had one of the tree play houses, a friend the teapot and another friend the red bus.

I do really love seeing the Polly Pocket toys back. My dd is nearly 4 and I am feeling myself drawn to all the glittery plastic tat I thought I would never buy for my daughters! Things that look like Puppies in My Pocket or little plastic pets in hutches, they just really remind me of being young and wating these things. So we buy middle class wooden toys for dd2 still and dd1 gets things that make me happy!

DaisyDando · 26/10/2018 18:12

I had a much coveted and seldom used Mr Frosty, because we were obviously millionaires or something. I also had one of those little Cadbury chocolate dispensers, which I loved for obvious reasons.

Montydoo · 26/10/2018 19:43

I loved my Weebles (wobble but they don't fall down) I had swings and a Weeble roundabout, it was a simple toy, but I had hours of fun.

custardcream1000 · 26/10/2018 19:46

Care bears, Polly pockets, fashion wheel and Lego. These were some of my most prized items as a child.

tracelab · 26/10/2018 20:13

Fuzzy felts, my Viewmaster and a toy projector that I wound up and showed films in my bedroom.

On a trip to the US I was DESPERATE for an amazing kids oven that actually made real food. My parents wouldn't let me buy it (with MY OWN MONEY) because of the voltage difference. I'm still dreaming of it.

AddictedToRadley · 26/10/2018 22:24

My favourite toys were definitely My Little Pony, Tiny Tears doll and Poochie soft toy (possibly a dog but not totally sure)!

I adored my Applejack My Little Pony (I still have it now!) and played with my sister with her Bluebell MLP. I was awfully jealous of a friend who had the full set of about 36 MLP’s but none could beat my Applejack!
I got a Tiny Tears doll with a high hair and little pink care box for Christmas when I was 7 and I mothered that doll like a real baby for years. I actually wish I still had her but I’ve no idea what happened to her. I tried to get one for my DD this summer but they’re not the same. I even tried getting a vintage one but the prices were shocking and I’m still not sure they’re the same version!
And for bedtime I loved my Poochie pink and white teddy which, again, I still have and will pass to my DD this Christmas.

My DS’s favourite toy from 2-8 years was his BRIO table and track with many different trains and even a couple of cars. He was sad to see it go but maybe one day we can get another for his little sister and they can play with it together again...
