For many of us when we see or a hear a reference to a toy from our childhood, we are immediately transported by to a specific time when we were younger playing with that toy...queue all the nostalgic feelings. BRIO would love to know all the toys that give you that nostalgic feeling and what it is about them that makes you feel that way.

Here’s what BRIO have to say: “We just turned 130, yet we feel more vital than ever. And that’s a good thing when working with toys. Because just as play develops children, play has developed us as a company. Smart Tech is the latest integrated technology from BRIO which is adding extra layers of functionality and play value to our timeless toys. The Smart Tech trains can stop, turn around, go slower or go faster using the accessories that are in the range, bringing even more magic to the BRIO World. In a world full of technology and computers, traditional play is at the core of what we do at BRIO. Our Smart Tech range combines clever train technology with traditional play patterns, meaning as parents you don’t need to feel nostalgic for those classic toys as they’re at the heart of everything we do.”

Watch this video on the BRIO Smart tech Engine with Action Tunnel Set:

Is it the Troll Dolls that make you feel nostalgic as you remember spending hours styling their bright pink hair? Perhaps seeing your DC talking to imaginary people on your phone makes you remember you doing the same on your Chatter Telephone? Did you think of yourself as a highly-skilled chef with your Easy-Bake Oven? Would you just spend hours drawing out things on your Etch A Sketch? Or is it good old Play-Doh that always make you feel nostalgic whenever your child plays with it?

Whichever toys make you feel nostalgic, share them on the thread below and everyone who comments will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list) and another four MNers will win a BRIO Smart Tech Engine Set with Action Tunnels, worth £89.95 each.

Thanks and good luck.

I can never remember the name of it but I had a castle with characters that were on rocking wheels so when you put them at the top of the slide they gently rocked their way down. I so wish I still had this as my girls would love it

There are so many to choose from!
Probably the toys which bring back the most nostalgia are Troll Dolls and Buckaroo so much so that I bought them for my kids though they didn't seem to have the same love for them that I do.

Trains. I had a wooden train set that i loved. I passed it to dd school when she grew out of it. Then had ds-typical! He is obsessed with trains and we spend hours playing with them-great fun!

cocochips · 22/10/2018 16:17

I loved my cute rag doll it went everywhere with me,

Goingovertosusanshouse · 22/10/2018 16:18

Care Bears and the big red fun bus! Hours of fun. Also mr frosty, I can still taste it!

Ariclock · 22/10/2018 16:35

Polly pocket and Care Bears!

Signoritawhocansway · 22/10/2018 16:38

We love Brio! Such well made, quality toys. We couldn't afford it when I was a child, so I'm indulging my children with it. As far as nostalgia goes, Fisher Price stuff was indestructible... The record player, the hospital and the garage. Plus Polly Pockets, Secret Keepers, Barbie etc

Anything to do with Sindy - I was absolutely obsessed and for several years, every Christmas and birthday I asked for Sindy things such as the townhouse, beach buggy, range rover, horse and cart, etc.

Other than that, Play-doh barber shop was a firm favourite, as were fuzzy felts, my "little professor" calculator type thing, Viewmaster slide camera, and games such as Monopoly, Mouse Trap and one called "Careers" which I absolutely loved but nobody else alive seems to remember!

IWouldBeSuperb · 22/10/2018 17:44

Yes to the PPs who said Big Yellow Teapot! Or "teatot" as I apparently used to call it!

Also my amazing, story-telling Cricket doll with an entire tape deck in her back! Grin

big yellow teapot

Sylvanian families. Whole days would go by where my sister and I would play nothing else! Our games were hugely imaginative and elaborate.

Al la carte kitchen 😍😍😍

queenoftheschoolrun · 22/10/2018 19:52

Lego! Spent hours building villages of houses with the tin of lego bricks at my grandparents house. My in-laws gave us a similar tin with my husband's childhood lego bricks for our daughter.

Nostalgia pours over me at the sight of He man, Skeletor etc my two boys had them all and would play with them for hours. On the way to school we would walk down a little winding path that became "the sneaky path where Skeletor (son no2) would be hiding in order to ambush He man( son no 1).My youngest son is now 34 and we still talk about this

Littletabbyocelot · 22/10/2018 20:42

She ra dolls. I recently bought some 2nd hand and the nostalgia is so strong its like I'm physically back in my childhood bedroom.

Sylvanian families, trolls and barbie have a similar effect l.

For my dad the brio house building kits of the 1950s brought huge nostalgia

Cadbury chocolate dispensers remind me of Christmas as a child, at the time they didnt seem much compared to toys but now the thought of them brings back such happy memories.

jandoc · 22/10/2018 21:27

it was my favourite pink teddy that always brings back good memories for me

user1485629191 · 22/10/2018 21:41

Speak and spell, my sister and I still quote the words it pronounced wrong!

boobybirdsworth · 22/10/2018 22:02

I used to love board games I was never a doll person, I'm a tom boy :) Connect four was my favourite game :)

whitsunfells · 22/10/2018 23:31

Keypers! I just about broke down when my uncle gave me the horse for my birthday 😂 This and Rainbow Brite. And the Care Bears. And My Little Pony. Oh God and Sylvanian Family. I really hope my kids like Sylvanian Family so I can relive my childhood. Thankfully DS likes trains, so I have discovered how cool they are in my late 30s.

@user1485629191 so do we! 'Aw-nee-awn' 😂

bluebunny · 23/10/2018 00:08

Etch a sketch. I wanted one for a long time but when I finally got it I remember it being hard work. The knobs were stiff and you could only really do straight lines. Also green slime In a pot and I had a string puppet of a black poodle which I didn't get out often as I was worried about the strings getting tangled.

OrdinaryGirl · 23/10/2018 06:05

Care Bears! I have a 33 year old Tenderheart Bear that is now cwtched up with DS1.
It makes me happy that she's still around and still loved. (I know the original was a 'he' but to my 8 year old self, he was always a girl because of the big tummy heart. Ridiculous gender stereotypes were strong with this one 🙄)
I used to hold wedding ceremonies between Tenderheart Bear and Bumble-lion the Wuzzle. ❤️

action man is my earliest memory of childhood toys
