NOW CLOSED

Being chief decision-maker comes with the territory when you’re a parent - but sometimes the best way to go is not so clear cut. Take our quiz to find out how your decisions following common parenting conundrums align with those of other users’.

Here’s what O2 have to say: “#IsItAlright to let them use a tablet at breakfast? We hear you. Parenting is full of #IsItAlright questions, challenges and dilemmas. That’s why we’ve launched O2 Family, to bring advice, safety tools and kid-friendly offers to parents across the UK. We don’t pretend to have all the answers. But hopefully we make it a little easier to navigate the everyday messy magic of family life."

Whether you turn to the TV when things get tough, choose to embrace your child’s creativity no matter how questionable it may be or you find bargaining with your children the best way to get things done, take the quiz here and share any results that surprise you (or your own parenting conundrums) below.

All who post below will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

I seem to be in the minority all the time

ButterflyOfFreedom · 12/09/2018 12:26

I was in the majority for most questions.
Though some of my answers would change depending on my mood / their mood!!!!

InTheNavy · 12/09/2018 12:27

I think I'm a bit of a negotiator!

Innocentinfamy · 12/09/2018 12:52

Nothing wrong with a pirate outfit for any occasion Grin

starlight36 · 12/09/2018 13:51

I'm pretty mainstream too. Luckily we've mainly outgrown the costume phase but at one point I wondered why I bothered to actually buy proper clothes.

Butteredparsn1ps · 12/09/2018 14:05

I seem to be pretty average except that I didn't select any of the answers that involved bribery.

My poor DC Grin

MamaOfTwoBoys · 12/09/2018 14:59

Turns out I'm pretty much like the rest of Mumsnetters!!!

Nice to know we're all in it together Wink

Miracular · 12/09/2018 15:39

Done. Agree with the majority for most of the questions.

NotWeavingButDarning · 12/09/2018 15:56

Pretty average with a couple of out there ones. Not surprising really.

SinkGirl · 12/09/2018 17:10

I think a few people are fibbing on the last one - surely other parents just stick the TV on in desperation?!

IveGotALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 12/09/2018 17:12

I found it interesting that I take a hard line on some things (vegetables and bed) but was quick to bargain on the pirate outfit! Blush

RaininSummer · 12/09/2018 17:26

I remember doing the fork trains etc but maybe I would be harsher nowadays when pudding is considered such a bad thing anyway. I definitely wouldn't be bribing them with extra screen time.

motherstongue · 12/09/2018 19:01

Did many from memory as mine are now too old for many of these conundrums but I appear to be typical for some and a bit of a negotiator on others.

Tommy · 12/09/2018 19:09

Ive been different with all 3 of mine! Depends on the child, my mood, the situation

llamaparades · 12/09/2018 19:38

Done. Pick your battles is what I do. And if my DS came out dressed as a pirate I think I would cheer. As DS hates wearing any clothes it's a battle everyday let alone for special events.

Toadsrevisited · 12/09/2018 19:39

Surprised how many people wouldn't worry about about veg consumption...

Bollockingfuck · 12/09/2018 19:59

My answer to everything in the summer hols is “Let’s go out for a walk!” My children are like dogs and need daily fresh air and exercise. (Ok and sometimes an ice cream too!) Unfortunately when it gets really rainy and cold the old screen time creeps up. I think you’d get different results at different times of year.

piraterach · 12/09/2018 20:11

Mostly in the majority here. I think picking your battles is key. If they want to dress as a pirate who are they hurting (I'm kinda jealous I can't join them in wearing what I want when I want, damn office policy!)

Mumof4under10 · 12/09/2018 20:59

Pretty much with the majority of mumsnetters Grin

MonkeysMummy17 · 12/09/2018 21:05

I'm just below mn average, it's all about learning to pick your battles and using their tricks against them 😁

LadyDuplo · 12/09/2018 21:08

Pretty average

NoSquirrels · 12/09/2018 21:10

54% of the respondents say that at 10am on the FIRST day of the school holidays, they'd take em all out to the park to burn off energy.

Not in my house! Week 1 of the holidays is total veg about and do what you like week. I feel absolutely no shame in that!

Week 2 is a different story, but Day 1 of the holidays? TV all the way, baby.

NoSquirrels · 12/09/2018 21:14

I was massively surprised by the "Eat your veg or no pudding" majority, as well!

wonkylegs · 12/09/2018 22:13

I think I'm quite lucky both my boys actually seem to like vegetables and go to bed really well so it's never been a battle - boredom however is a real kicker and both kids like completely different things!!!

Socksandshoes · 12/09/2018 23:26

I surely it depends on the age of your child.
Aeroplanes to her peas into them at 18m is fine, but I will not still be gagging with that at 5.
Same with bedtime.

Famioy event is a bit vague. Party, bbq or day out- all fine. Wedding or funeral - not so much
