NOW CLOSED

Being chief decision-maker comes with the territory when you’re a parent - but sometimes the best way to go is not so clear cut. Take our quiz to find out how your decisions following common parenting conundrums align with those of other users’.

Here’s what O2 have to say: “#IsItAlright to let them use a tablet at breakfast? We hear you. Parenting is full of #IsItAlright questions, challenges and dilemmas. That’s why we’ve launched O2 Family, to bring advice, safety tools and kid-friendly offers to parents across the UK. We don’t pretend to have all the answers. But hopefully we make it a little easier to navigate the everyday messy magic of family life."

Whether you turn to the TV when things get tough, choose to embrace your child’s creativity no matter how questionable it may be or you find bargaining with your children the best way to get things done, take the quiz here and share any results that surprise you (or your own parenting conundrums) below.

All who post below will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Done! I'm average too... slightly surprised I have to say.

QwertySmalls · 03/10/2018 15:06

Im in the middle apart from offering tv during the holidays.

womblelancs · 03/10/2018 18:44

As an enthusiastic amateur violin player myself, it's nice to see that most mums are willing to 'grin and bear it'. My mum seems happy enough that I still play mine, 30 years later, so it was probably worth the initial torture.

candish63 · 03/10/2018 19:38

I'm average for mumsnet

otter099008 · 03/10/2018 20:20

I got the majority for all of the questions! Glad it's not just me then Grin

spanglisher · 03/10/2018 20:30

I suspect there is a lot of answering but you should do rather than what you would do, but this may be due to the absence of the obvious solutions among the choices (no mention of bedtime stories). I refuse to believe next to no-one uses tv and tablets

duck22 · 03/10/2018 20:36

I seem to be in the average for most

kohsamuirosie · 03/10/2018 20:50

unbelievable.... I do what most every other mum out there does...
good to see we are all singing from the same hymn sheet- in the loo!

HelenSw4les · 03/10/2018 21:09

I am largely at the majority end of the scale which did surprise me as I had no idea my parenting mirrored that of many others; I do try to be fair but there are times when you need to be firm and stick to your boundaries, such as bedtimes and dinner time.

clareycat · 03/10/2018 22:25

Ha ha, as usual seems like i'm out there on a limb with my no-nonsense honesty!...and bribery Halo...not!

upthehammers · 03/10/2018 23:09

I guess I'm pretty average though half the time I think I'm quite strict with them compared to the way my friends are with their children.

NatureIs · 03/10/2018 23:54

I was similar to most but was surprised only 18% answered "Ignore. Boredom is good for children"!

AngelDog · 05/10/2018 18:52

It's interesting that parents a hundred years ago would have really scratched their heads at some of those options. A majority still seem to opt for 'traditional' methods though.

I was pretty typical for most of them.

Jeffingandeffing · 05/10/2018 20:33

I seem to be out of step with most parents on Mums Net.... I'm either too strict, not strict enough or just confusingly inconsistent!! Blush

StickChildNumberTwo · 05/10/2018 21:04

Seems like I'm with the majority on almost all of these.

nerysw · 06/10/2018 06:33

Glad I'm not the only pudding withholder.

1969angep · 07/10/2018 16:17

Seems like I’m pretty atypical (apart from dashing out to the park, I’m happy to let mine be bored!)

HowsAnnie25 · 09/10/2018 18:33

I did the quiz and every answer I gave was the most common answered, so i don't feel too bad about that! To be honest my kids are really good and tend to do as asked without bribery!

Lulabellx1 · 10/10/2018 13:38

I'm an average mumsnetter too! Blush

welcometonarnia · 12/10/2018 04:34

Also average for Mumsnet...thought I was far more radical! Grin

janney3 · 12/10/2018 06:42

Answers are different for each child, they are so different.

Quietvoiceplease · 13/10/2018 18:21

I thought the response rates were quite interesting and mirrored my experience of mumsnetter views: large % who have the 'I said so therefore do it' approach, and large % who have the 'let them express themselves in their own way approach'. That's the trick of parenting: to work out what sort of parent you are, and what battles to choose to fight.

joggingrunning · 13/10/2018 20:39

The quiz says I'm an average mumsnetter.

foxessocks · 14/10/2018 17:04

I got majority for all but two - so fairly average I guess

GetKnitted · 14/10/2018 21:57

I'm just wondering what age the children are who are going to the important family do as pirates and picturing the grandparents 50th wedding anniversary pictures Hmm
