Deodorant for a lot of people is a staple in their daily routine and there will come a time when you have to buy your child/children their first deodorant too, if you haven’t already! Therefore Dove would love to find out about all your experiences and preferences when it comes to deodorant for both your child and yourself.

Here’s what Dove have to say: “At Dove, all of our anti-perspirant products deliver reliable all day protection against sweat and odour with a gentle formula, which cares for delicate underarm skin. We know that you want to make the best choices for your teenagers when it comes to the products they use on their skin. We want to hear what is important to you when it comes to selecting products for yourself and your teenagers!”

What deodorant do you buy and why? Did you buy a specific kind of deodorant for your child’s first one? Did you have a chat with your child on how and why they needed to start using it? Do you or your child prefer spray, roll-on or stick? Are there any scents you love or do you go for the ones without scents? What is the most important factor for you when buying a deodorant for yourself and/or your child? What about anti-mark deodorants?

Whatever you and/or your child’s experiences are around deodorant, share them on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

I always used to love the Impulse brand ones in all the different smells, they worked really well too.

Now I find the only brand that works for me is Sure.

I tried an aluminium free once after my daughter was born and it did absolutely nothing!

I don't like roll ons, they always feel sticky

FireflyGirl · 09/09/2018 07:22

I like roll ons, as does DH. He uses Nivea, I use Soft & Gentle Jasmine and Coco milk. I like the smell, it doesn't mark my clothes and it doesn't sting after I've shaved. I have used Dove, but it wouldn't be my first choice.

DS isn't old enough to use deodorant.

HoneywithLemon · 09/09/2018 07:33

We tend not to be loyal to a particular brand in this house. Earlier this year we had to cut right back when DH was unemployed, and we switched to Lidl own brand roll-on and it's great.

I bought the DDs a roll-on each when we noticed they needed it. Don't remember talking about hygiene but they both loved showering so it didn't seem necessary.

Islandoftheapes · 09/09/2018 07:49

I use pit rok or similar mineral deodorant - prefer something more natural and fragrance free - don't want deodorant smell competing with perfume

AR2012 · 09/09/2018 07:50

Dove spray works and with most dove products, they're kind on the skin.

DitaFajitaJones · 09/09/2018 08:10

To be honest, I have always used Dove. I like the smell and it works. I prefer spray rather than roll-on but use roll-on as it is more environmentally friendly :)

Emilygage1982 · 09/09/2018 08:19

Mitchum is the only one that works for me and my family

BabyE · 09/09/2018 08:20

I always buy a deodorant that's cruelty free, unfortunately dove is tested in animals. Sanex is a good one, I generally use a roll on. All of Superdrug's own range is also pretty good.

frances93 · 09/09/2018 08:38

From a young age my daughter has seen me shout profanities at deoderants that leave white marks on clothes, despite claiming that they wouldn't! So as silly as it sounds I use my husbands Lynx, it smells lovely and lasts ages. Although when she is old enough I will encourage her to use roll on, as I think this may be less harsh to her skin.

Lheath · 09/09/2018 08:40

I buy Dove invisible dry roll on. I prefer roll on as I find they work better than sprays

SSCRASE123 · 09/09/2018 08:41

My lad always wants to be like me, using my deodorants, aftershave and hair products etc. so it's been very simple to get him interested in personal care and now is very happy with his own things. Particularly if they are branded with a sportsman he likes (Beckham, Ronaldo etc.).

glenka · 09/09/2018 08:45

I buy whatever is on offer as I can't really see that's there is all that much difference in how good they are.

happysouls · 09/09/2018 08:53

I use stick deoderant as I find sprays choke you and roll on doesn't dry well. I love the Dove mens and womens and tend to switch between them and a Sure stick. Mitchum didn't suit me as after 2 weeks use the skin under my arms was red, sore and itchy. Dove seems to get the right balance between strong protection and not irritating skin!

libertyforall · 09/09/2018 08:54

I only ever use spray Dove deodorant as all the others I've tried tend to leave a strange sweet/sour smell on me by the end of the day. Mitchum is the worst culprit for that! Personally I prefer the anti mark one as it's not very nice to have white marks on the side of your coloured tops. I have tried the stick cream one but I prefer to spray and get dressed immediately and the cream one felt a bit clammy for ages and made me feel damp under the pits. My 14 year old daughter only has Dove deodorant too and this has worked a treat, so far, going through the hormonal stage, she does tend to use a lot though!

As a household we only use Dove soap/shampoo/conditioner/shower wash - this was suggested by the nurse after my numerous thrush incidents - never looked back and in 15 years I've never suffered with thrush again.

footdust · 09/09/2018 08:54

I use sure or dove deodorant. I normally go for an anti mark/ invisable one.

Spices001 · 09/09/2018 09:11

It took me an age to convince my daughter to use deodorant lol, we’ve settled on a roll on for sensitive skin

sheilads105 · 09/09/2018 09:17

I use a spray as I hate the stickiness of a stick or roll on. I find the new compact cans are really great.

hmariez · 09/09/2018 09:21

I use a spray. My 10 year old hasnt used any to my knowledge but im guessing she will just steel mine and end up using the same brand i do.

Inmyownlittlecorner · 09/09/2018 09:21

I’m concerned about the aluminium in deodorants so I use a neals yard one & as long as I wash with proper soap & not shower gel it’s fine.
DD will be 10 soon & I will probably go down the same route.
She doesn’t like strong smells so the final choice will be hers!

QueenOfPharts · 09/09/2018 09:23

Think dove was my first deodorant. I actually must try it again as I love the smell. I use michum at the moment which is really good. My dc are younger so not something I have to think about just yet but I would probably try to go for a natural deodorant as possible with few chemicals.

vonniebab2 · 09/09/2018 09:25

I would advise my children to use roll on, I avoid spray deodorant as they seem to irritate my chest

barbsbarbs · 09/09/2018 09:36

trying to get my son aged 15 to use deodorant has been difficult and I have decided to let him do as he pleases, because he will be told by his peers in a frank way which maybe the best way.

janeyf1 · 09/09/2018 09:37

We like to use roll on deodorants because the spray gets ingested when using it in a small bathroom which isn't nice

007hel · 09/09/2018 09:44

I use Dove roll on, my dd started using sprays but has since switched to roll on. My husband and ds both use Sure spray. We like these brands and they are all anti perspirate. I didn't really chat with my children about deodorant, I think when they started senior school I said I think they'd better start using deodorant. I didn't want them to be bullied for 'BO' like I was at senior school.

cassey1 · 09/09/2018 10:05

I use Dove as used it for years, use the roll on and spray. I like the fragrance, does not irritate my skin and does not leave white marks on clothes. My 13 year old daughter uses the spray.
