Deodorant for a lot of people is a staple in their daily routine and there will come a time when you have to buy your child/children their first deodorant too, if you haven’t already! Therefore Dove would love to find out about all your experiences and preferences when it comes to deodorant for both your child and yourself.

Here’s what Dove have to say: “At Dove, all of our anti-perspirant products deliver reliable all day protection against sweat and odour with a gentle formula, which cares for delicate underarm skin. We know that you want to make the best choices for your teenagers when it comes to the products they use on their skin. We want to hear what is important to you when it comes to selecting products for yourself and your teenagers!”

What deodorant do you buy and why? Did you buy a specific kind of deodorant for your child’s first one? Did you have a chat with your child on how and why they needed to start using it? Do you or your child prefer spray, roll-on or stick? Are there any scents you love or do you go for the ones without scents? What is the most important factor for you when buying a deodorant for yourself and/or your child? What about anti-mark deodorants?

Whatever you and/or your child’s experiences are around deodorant, share them on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

We get anything on offer - started ds at 11-I use perspirex for times of stress !

kittykomp · 09/09/2018 10:19

we haven't got to that stage yet thankfully

Do not allow the children to use deodorant until they are teenagers because they do not need it and it may cause skin irritations.

Ive been using dove as long as I can remember from when I’ve stared using deodorant. During my teenage years I used the stick, but from adulthood I’ve switched and stuck with the roll on. I found the sprays don’t seem to provide the long lasting protection and the sticks left that white residue on clothes.

My dear son started using deodorant at 8yrs. I bought him linx as his dad uses it and I like the scents. Also most importantly, it works as he had really bad BO. I wasn’t aware of the time that dove had a men’s range but as Linx works well for him, I won’t change it.

I use sure or mitchum stick deodorant what ever is on offer.
They do sting my sensitive skin, but I worry that a more natural deodorant will not be as effective!

Teen DD1 also uses sure, the blue one. She used to use Dove, but as she is sporty and active found Dove did not provide long enough protection and this worried her, so she switched to sure.

DS has very sensitive skin, so I buy his deodorant from the body shop, as there is not a 'natural' deodorant that is effective enough.

DH well he uses anything. What ever brand of mens deodorant he can find on offer.

I hate putting synthetic chemicals on my skin, but I do for an effective deodorant.

I wish there was an deodorant manufacturer, who could make a natural, but effective deodorant.

I prefer to buy roll on and one without a scent however my son always goes for a spray and scented. He has been known to apply both as he is very conscious about sweating. In fact it was him that first mentioned that he needed it.
Dove is a make I have used and I especially like the anti mark one.

Ds is 11 and used a spray (sure I think) - he may not be a teenager but he needs it. Dd is 15 and also uses a spray (garnier I think). I do like roll on but hate that they take so long to dry. I have a small spray in my bag for topping up during the day

Catmadroo · 09/09/2018 10:26

I use a roll on type, and the cheapest in the shop, I don't feel there is much difference between them, I do have a sniff to see if like the fragrance though. I can't use sprays as they make me sneeze.

I always buy Sure roll on deordorant - either the blue or pink one. For me, it took a long time to find one that doesn't mark my clothes. I won't use a spray one as it is bad for anyone in the house with a lung condition

shellywkd · 09/09/2018 10:32

My daughter prefers a roll on as it seems to last longer. She takes one to school and reapplies it at lunch in the bathroom as she does sweat a lot in her uniform and is very aware of that.

janney3 · 09/09/2018 10:35

I buy my teens Bionsen as it's aluminium free and unperfumed. I also think it' s better for teens to have a product that doesn't block their pores and stop them sweating.
Good hygiene is encouraged in our house but does sometimes need reinforcing.
I buy an unperfumed spray, whatever's available as that is what I prefer as quicker to use and dress.

He's too young at 8 to be using it yet.

I did have some lynx spray that I won in a raffle that I gave to a friend's son who is 14 and he loves it.

I prefer sticks as they don't flake although the 'no white marks' ones don't seem to stop the marks!

dementedpixie · 09/09/2018 10:46

Who says 8 is too young? If he smells then he does need it regardless of age

Helsbells68 · 09/09/2018 11:08

I recommended aluminium free sticks to my two.

lolamia91 · 09/09/2018 11:15

I buy all sensitive and organic to treat my childs skin well

hiddenmichelle · 09/09/2018 11:16

My 12 and 14 year old boys still do not use it - one of them needs to though! (and I have told him!!!!)

phillie1 · 09/09/2018 11:49

Daughter 11 now and needs to use it, but refuses, as doesnt want to grow up!

andywedge · 09/09/2018 11:49

My wife sprays what feels like a hundred bottles of it a day; drives me mad, the smell, yeeuch

IonaAilidh11 · 09/09/2018 11:50

we use sure and always works so will stick to it

nettymay · 09/09/2018 11:52

My little niece was staying with us - she saw me using my Dove roll-on.
She said "I thought you have to roll over to use it and a Dove brings it - like on the tele"!

CatherineV · 09/09/2018 12:05

No notable experiences :(

Purpleneonpinkunicorns · 09/09/2018 12:06

I like using most dove products, go fresh deodorant is my favourite compared to the original one though, and I also love the dove shower foams especially the pear flavour as it's lovely.

And with dove deodorant I feel fresh all throughout the day, and it doesn't leave that white patch some deodorants do also.

Hope they come out with more scents though.

Bubbles2002 · 09/09/2018 12:07

My 9 year old son is just getting to the age where he needs deodorant. He has very sensitive skin, so I did spend quite a bit of time researching one that didn't have any nasty irritants. In the end I opted for Crystal Spring which is just made with natural ingredients and we have found it excellent.

sezz35 · 09/09/2018 12:21

I buy whatever is on offer. They all do the same!

AuFinch · 09/09/2018 12:33

Our son is a teenager. When he first started to use deodrant I would buy different ones until he found one he liked the smell of. I think he didnt want to smell girly, but not have a smell that was overpowering like the lynx stuff, he just wanted something that when you put it on you could not tell if he had deodrant on or not, but at the same time kept him fresh as he had sports lesson at the beginning of a day at one point and then had to change back into uniform for the rest of the lessons! (seems no one uses the showers when i asked). We found that for the days he had sports lessons the Mitchum roll on was the best. For the other days we just used different ones as he didnt seem to want to stick to one particular brand.
