NOW CLOSED

It can be difficult to ensure that clothes always smell good - especially if you have messy toddlers or teenagers that leave P.E kit in bags for weeks. Fairy Non Bio would like you to share your tips for making sure your clothes smell great.

Here’s what Fairy Non Bio has to say: “At Fairy Non Bio, we know that even if you have very sensitive skin, you still want that freshly washed smell on your clothes and fabrics. We have perfected our formula on our detergents and fabric conditioner so that you don’t have to compromise on either. We want to know your tips for great smelling clothes!”

Do you have a way of storing your clothes that means they don’t pick up nasty odours between wash and wear? Maybe your family has a laundry routine that prevents clothes from ever reaching a smelly stage? Perhaps you have a favourite product that’s become your family’s signature clothing scent?

Whatever tips for making sure clothes smell great, share them on the thread below and you will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

I love the line dried smell of clean washing.

TellMeItsNotTrue · 26/05/2018 11:50

Making sure the clothes are taken out of the machine when it is finished instead of getting distracted and them sitting there for a few hours, I've found this really makes a difference in how fresh they smell

Beeziekn33ze · 26/05/2018 16:46

Dry outdoors on lavender or lilac bushes!

GetKnitted · 26/05/2018 22:18

another vote for line drying

tumble dryer sheets an optional second place

MakeTeaNotWar · 26/05/2018 22:49

Line dry every time! And make sure it's fully dry, don't put away if it's even a little bit damp

Wolfcub · 26/05/2018 23:28

Clean washing machine, don’t leave wet washing in the machine, line dry and ensure fully dry before putting away. The farmer who owns the field next to our house always comments how nice my washing smells when it’s drying outside. She even changed her detergent brand because of it

hannahbjm · 27/05/2018 06:19

Definitely line dry and taking out of washing machine as soon as it is finished or else they start to get a damp smell

monkeysox · 27/05/2018 08:10

Fairy non bio and dry outside when possible.
Bar of soap in drawer just like my mum did Smile

Ive stopped washing at 30, it was causing my washing machine and therefor my clothes to smell. Gone back to 40 and it's fine again.

FogCutter · 27/05/2018 16:53

I never let the washing pile up, once I've got enough for a load I wash it so it doesn't get all stinky.

I wash at 40 degrees with powder and fabric softener.

Then line dry whenever possible.

ncullinane · 27/05/2018 22:25

I try and line dry as much as I possibly can!

Yogeybear89 · 27/05/2018 23:00
  1. look after washing machine (service, clean rim, dettol washing machine cleaner monthly)

  2. put washer on a rinse with zoflora after you have done a smelly load (dogs bedding, football kits)

  3. never over load washer!

  4. fairy non bio tabs with dettol
laundry (only if washing 30c or lower)

  5. fairy non bio fabric conditioner ( I much prefer the concentrate one better)

  6. line dried ( depending on weather)

  7. tumble dry with real wool balls in dryer

  8. I simply have all bedroom windows open (always on the latches love house be aired) and leave draws and wardrobes open a jar (or inch) which allows fresh air to get to the clothes daily!

pandoraskids · 28/05/2018 05:19

Has to be line drying out in the fresh air

TracyKNixon · 28/05/2018 05:58

I use fabric conditioner and line dry my washing!

renas · 28/05/2018 06:26

Dry washing on the line it always smells good when it’s been out on the line

ThemisA · 28/05/2018 06:42

Dry them on a washing line and they really do smell naturally fresh - I am not a fan of the washing powder scent so tend to use liquid soap. I have sprayed sheets with lavender water

libra101 · 28/05/2018 06:47

Having washed laundry in Bio detergent and using Fairy softener, I hang laundry outdoors to dry when possible.

I wash trainers regularly to stop them becoming smelly, and encourage the family to change their clothes regularly.

It also helps to regularly run a hot wash cycle, using Dr Beckmann to keep the washing machine fresh.

Narnianescape · 28/05/2018 06:57

Dry them out on the line.

Spices001 · 28/05/2018 07:12

Nothing beats the clothes smell after hanging in the garden. If I have to use tumble dryer I always put in a scented wipe

tabbaz123 · 28/05/2018 07:16

I use soap pieces in drawers, line dry clothing, and for my husbands really smelly work clothes I add zoflora! to the wash - I would not recommend it for normal clothing but for his dirty work clothes it does wonders at eliminating smells

hmariez · 28/05/2018 07:20

Hang them outside to dry, best smell ever

TillyTheTiger · 28/05/2018 07:33

If your washing machine has a timer stick a load on overnight so it's finishing just when you come down for breakfast, then get it straight out on the line. Line-dried clothes smell lovely and they're softer too. Love the tip about soap, I'm going to try that! Also look at the konmari method for clothes storage - means nothing gets stuffed at the bottom of a drawer for months going musty.

clairemelvin · 28/05/2018 07:35

I love the smell of clothes which have been hung outside to dry

MimiJoy · 28/05/2018 07:56

I line dry where possible and use scented sachets in clothes drawers x

cluckyhen · 28/05/2018 08:40

My nan always taught me to put tumble dryer sheets in my drawers but I also pop some of the washable smellies in a small net bag for my stored clothes
