Doing the laundry can be a messy task - whether that’s getting rid of your children’s unexplained stains or dealing with the piles and piles of clean clothes when you’re done. Who would blame you for dreaming about the kind of space that could make it all seem a bit more manageable. With that in mind, Fairy Non Bio would like to hear about what would be in your dream laundry room.

Here’s what Fairy Non Bio has to say: “Did you know that the average mother spends 5 months of her life doing laundry? That’s a lot of pulling tissues out of pockets, separating loads and pairing socks! Imagine that you had your own separate laundry room. What would you want to make your life easier and nicer to spend time in?”

Would you have a separate washer and dryer? Or shelves for each family member’s clothes? Perhaps you’d have a fold down ironing board? Maybe you’d have everything - from appliances to airers - hidden away in cupboards?

Whatever would be in your dream laundry room, share it below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

We have a 'Futility' room (it should be Utility but once things are dumped in these the futility appears) and I would love it to be much larger.

Shelving down one side with space for boxes holding all the bits and pieces( currently dotted around the house) and a range of large drawers to hold cleaning paraphernalia would be wonderful. A double sink would be a bonus to wash muddy equipment and space for the laundry basket so it won't land on my head as I unbalance it from its current home (once again) would be great!

My laundry room would be in the house, not in a utility room accessed from the back garden like it currently is. It's no bother in the summer months but a right pain in the bum in winter! I'd have plenty of counter space and not also have DP's toolbox and paint pots, spare floorboards etc taking up the room in the cupboards!

My dream would be to have a laundry room! There is nowhere to dry clothes other than radiators and we often have dinner through the spin cycle of the washing machine!

One day

Easy sorting baskets, nice odour preventing system, easy load tumble dryer and an ironing robot.

NerrSnerr · 23/03/2018 06:59

Somewhere to store the clothes I can't be arsed to put away!

Honeyishrunkthekids · 23/03/2018 07:27

A laundry room would be such a luxury, I’d have a shoot in the hopes the kids would use it ( unlikely ) . A double sink , a dryer on a pulley, a laundrette style washing machine, and dryer . I’ve also seen a machine that folds your laundry for you . At the moment I have a color cider basket system which works so I d keep that . I also live in a terrace with no utility room but I can dream.

I actually have my dream laundry room!

It consists of:

AEG Lavamat 9kg washing machine
AEG Lavatherm 8kg condensing dryer
A bin for tissues and dryer lint
A shallow basket atop the washer for detergent, fabric conditioner etc
A sink unit for soaking stained items/tipping away dryer water
A little stool to sit on whilst I load the machines (I have mobility problems)
A small basket for clean socks - pairing them is a kid job!
Two sets of 3 deep metal drawers from Ikea - one for towels, one for my bedding, one for kids bedding. Then one drawer each for me and the two kids, for folded clean clothes.
Above one of the sets of drawers is a hanging rail for delicate items/dresses/shirts etc with lots of grippy hangers. This contraption fits neatly around the boiler Smile

People thought I was mad spending money transforming my basement into a dream laundry room but as someone who struggles to keep up with housework due to a disability, working full time and single parenthood, it has honestly made life so much better!

vixxx666 · 23/03/2018 12:23

I'd love a robot that could take the washing out of the machine and pop it in the dryer!

4GreenApples · 23/03/2018 14:44

Separate washing machine and tumble drier.
Sink to make any presoaking or hand washing easier.
Those drying racks that dangle from the ceiling for things that can’t be tumble dried or for small quantities of wet washing.
Room for an ironing board.
And somewhere for hampers of dirty clothes to go.
Counter space for sorting and folding clean laundry, with shelves to put each family members clean laundry on.
Access to back garden for ease of hanging wet clothes outside when it’s sunny.
Spare electric socket for TV / radio for entertainment when ironing or sorting clothes.

Andbabymakesthree · 23/03/2018 15:03

Well apart from a housekeeper to do it for us I would like washing machine, tumble dryer steam iron ironing board trouser press etc all nicely laid out with space for shelving so that you can fold an individual family members washing for collection.

TheFreshPrincess0fBelair · 23/03/2018 17:00

A supersize washing machine and drier.
A gadget that dispenses washing power and fabric conditioner ready to add to the machine.
Baskets to sort clothes into for each room or child, baskets for random socks etc the basket would for neatly on the shelves.
An area for clean clothes and another for dirty clothes.
Easy to clean floor.
Calming decor - maybe grey or white, really it would be nice if it had all the above things but still looked like a posh bedroom Smile

purplepandas · 23/03/2018 19:18

A heated airer. So want one of those!

cwalliss82 · 24/03/2018 07:36

My dream laundry room would be somewhere where I put the dirty washing in and then it reappears in the wardrobes and draws washed and ironed. It is never going to happen for me but happens to my family on a daily basis. I guess that I am the magic laundry fairy.

Sevendown · 24/03/2018 08:53

I miss the huge industrial sized washers and dryers we had in uni halls.

I really don’t understand why machines are so small. They should be big enough to fit a family’s weeks washing in.

So I’d get them.

lalalado · 24/03/2018 10:50

My dream laundry room would be extra large washing machine and dryer, hidden airer and fold out ironing board. Loads of shelf space for different peoples clothes.

LadyLapsang · 24/03/2018 12:11

It would be a very large room, encapsulating washing machine(s), tumble dryer (Miele), large butler sink for handwashing, lots of counter top space for folding / putting away and behind large wardrobe / cupboard doors a heated area with indoor washing lines (I only tumble dry bed linen and towels). The ironing area would include lots of space for hanging ironed items. It would also come fully staffed, although everyone is responsible for emptying their own pockets in my house!

ILoveMyCaravan · 24/03/2018 14:03

Everything at eye level so I don't have to bend including separate washing machine and dryer; loads of baskets for separating laundry; space for an ironing board which would permanently be up with a steam generator iron; a steam press for bedding; and a window to let fresh air in 😀

Mumversation123 · 24/03/2018 14:12

We are hoping to update our laundry facilities this year. Currrently we have just a washing machine but with two kids it’s not enough. My husband has been tasked with building me a laundry room for a washer, dryer and space to hang clothes!

JudgeRulesNutterButter · 24/03/2018 15:15

A television and DVD player for when I’m ironing. A MASSIVE ironing board. A stair gate to keep the DC out!

CathBookworm · 24/03/2018 17:10

My dream laundry room would have loads of room to hand clothes, an ironing board that puts itself up and a TV.

Theimpossiblegirl · 24/03/2018 17:24

I loved the laundry room in the holiday villa we stayed in in Florida last year, so my dream laundry room would have an American style washer and dryer (separate), plenty of storage space for towels, bedding, detergent, baskets etc., an area for ironing and heated airers for when I don't want to tumble dry.
I do love drying my washing on an outside line though.

labazs · 24/03/2018 18:15

to have a seperate room for laundering would be so nice rather than in my cramped kitchen but to have a fairy who would wash fold and iron would be nice too! other than that a good washing machine drier room for an ironing board permanently up with a good iron then a sort of stacked system of baskets for the clean washing save me putting it away or having it piled everywhere until i have time to put it away

Middleoftheroad · 24/03/2018 19:55

A man....so Fairy can calculate the average number of hours the average man spends doing the laundry!

TheOnlyPurpleLlama · 24/03/2018 20:34

Laundry chute.
2 x wall cupboards above washing machine with separate tumble dryer.
Corner for heated airer, and dehumidifier.

Space for ironing, so I can pretend I do it.

Adarajames · 24/03/2018 20:41

Affording to live somewhere big enough to have a laundry room would be an ideal start! Not having to have the drying rack in the front room would be amazing! Oh and a house elf to do it all for me of course
