Doing the laundry can be a messy task - whether that’s getting rid of your children’s unexplained stains or dealing with the piles and piles of clean clothes when you’re done. Who would blame you for dreaming about the kind of space that could make it all seem a bit more manageable. With that in mind, Fairy Non Bio would like to hear about what would be in your dream laundry room.

Here’s what Fairy Non Bio has to say: “Did you know that the average mother spends 5 months of her life doing laundry? That’s a lot of pulling tissues out of pockets, separating loads and pairing socks! Imagine that you had your own separate laundry room. What would you want to make your life easier and nicer to spend time in?”

Would you have a separate washer and dryer? Or shelves for each family member’s clothes? Perhaps you’d have a fold down ironing board? Maybe you’d have everything - from appliances to airers - hidden away in cupboards?

Whatever would be in your dream laundry room, share it below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Oh, well in my dreams......two washing machines, one 'normal' and one for large items, like duvets that you'd usually have to take to a laundrette or dry cleaners.
I large capacity tumble dryer with varied heat settings.
A small ironing board and a large one. A really good steam iron that doesn't spit gunk everywhere. A steamer machine and mannequin.
Shelves for a few books and nice cupboards for everything to go in so it looks nice and streamlined. Oh and a trouser press.
An overhead drying line. A few flat net racks for drying delicate jumpers.
Some nice washing baskets and eco friendly, posh washing liquids, woollite for my delicates and lovely fabric conditioners. Maybe different fragrances, so I could have the bed linen smelling of lavender for example.
A nice squishy armchair and a coffee machine....I love the smell of laundry and the warmth, so I'd like to relax whilst the washing is on reading a book and drinking nice coffee. Oh and a google home so I can request music and listen to the news etc.
Well.....you did ask! Grin

I would love a laundry room!!! I would have a matching washing machine and tumble dryer. I would have a space where just laundry products lived. I would keep the ironing equipment in there and have all matching baskets and separate bins for colours / whites / sports stuff.. It would smell amazing in there too!!!

UpOnDown · 19/03/2018 13:53

Definitely a separate washer and dryer, and lots of shelves

Teabagtits · 19/03/2018 14:04

A laundry room with a working washing machine would be a start & one that had space for a tumble dryer as it doesn’t like the cold & being stuck in the garage means it doesn’t work when the temperature drops below 0 :(

Candyperfumegirl · 19/03/2018 19:15

I'm not really sure I have a dream laundry room, but a dedicated laundry room in itself would be lovely and I guess I would fill it with all the usual appliances such as washing machine, tumble dryer, dish washer.

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer · 19/03/2018 20:11

I'd love a spacious laundry room with separate washing machine and tumble dryer plus a double sink, draining board and some counter top. I'd want a cupboard to store the washing liquid and a couple of buckets etc. I'd like one of those airers that you lower from the ceiling so I could hang stuff up out of the way to dry.

Bufferingkisses · 20/03/2018 06:58

I would like a pull down after so I could sort clothes from the washer straight to the dryer and hang anything that didn't tumble at the same time. So much quicker than my current system! Simple but really helpful Smile

NellyOC · 20/03/2018 10:42

I would love the space to sort out the washing without it covering my lounge. I'd like different colour basket for each person. Space to air sheets and hang washing that needs hanging. A pull down ironing board and a DAB radio to listen to. As well as a very large capacity washing machine and dryer. Not asking too much...

1moreRep · 20/03/2018 11:39

fold away ironing board, hanging rail for washing that extends from the wall, sink, washer and a dryer

SillyMoomin · 20/03/2018 14:47

Oh... Happy dream....

a large airy sunny room with two large washing machines (because who wants to have to wait to put a load on??), 1 large tumble dryer and 1 overhead pully system for internal drying.

A big scrubbed clean fat pine table in the middle for folding and fussing, and wicker baskets all around for transporting clothes around the house.

the largest, widest ironing board, with space to have it set up 24/7 and one of those steam posh irons AND a free hold steamer, like they have in charity shops.

Oh it's blissful in my head

NauticalDisaster · 20/03/2018 15:58

I want:

  • a big ass front load washer
  • a big ass front load dryer
  • a storage rack for supplies
  • a table for folding clothes/hokding the kaundry basket
  • enough room do to do ironing
Tortycat · 20/03/2018 19:30

I was thinking laundry shutes until pp said laundry room on first floor - genius idea! I'd have washing machine and tumble drier, clothes rack and dehumidifier. Above all lots of space so everything isn't crammed in and overcrowded. I never iron but a pull down board and wall mounted iron might tempt me. And lots of natural light. And if I'm wishing, then may as well also wish for a housekeeper to do it all too....

WibbleBoy · 20/03/2018 19:49

Does Fairy Non Bio have anything to say regarding how much time the average father spends doing laundry?

Not that I'm one of them, I've got a degree but every time I try to use the washing machine I break something. Maybe that's what my ideal laundry room would contain, dad-proof devices.

Maiyakat · 20/03/2018 20:40

I would love to have a utility room and have all the noise of the washing machine hidden away! I would have a tumble dryer and one of those old school drying racks that comes down from the ceiling on a pulley system. And a washing machine that doesn't break when DD is sick....

Haffdonga · 20/03/2018 21:10

I'd have a big with room with removable roof to sun dry in the best weather, lots of heated racks and a permanent ironing board.

katfje · 20/03/2018 21:55

I would love a washing machine, sink and lots of work surface. Some cupboards and lots of airer's. And a fold down ironing board for the small amount of ironing I do.

Abis04 · 21/03/2018 08:37

An actual laundry room would be a good start, with separate (large) washers and dryer as we don't have one. With lots of storage and worktop space

SilverHairedCat · 21/03/2018 08:54

Washing machine - industrial size for duvets etc
Tumble dryer - industrial size for duvets etc
Lots of the balls you put in with washing and dryers to pick off fluff and animal fur
Storage for all the washing liquids etc
Storage for animal foods etc
Shower / wet room section for washing muddy dog after a walk!
Sink for hand washing

trixymalixy · 21/03/2018 08:59

Two washers, two dryers, two pulleys in the ceiling for drying. Big Belfast sink, a table for folding clothes on and an ironing board set up permanently.

qate · 21/03/2018 12:06

Definitely concealed laundry baskets - one for whites/colours and darks - something along these lines: www.kitchensource.com/laundry/rv-ctohb.htm.

We tend to dry clothes on a airer rather than put in the tumbledrier, so I would need enough space for that - preferably compact but multilevel airer, or alternatively one that pulled down from the wall (in separate layers) so I could pull it in and out as necessary - similar to this: www.laundrycompany.co.uk/leifheit-wall-mounted-telegant-81-protect-plus-formerly-100-plus/.

Once clothes were dry, lots of shelving/cupboard space for sorting and hanging clothes - much easier to do it as things come off the airer so they can be put in the appropriate drawers/boxes (especially useful for the baby who appears to have approximately 1,376,827 items of clothing).

strawberrisc · 21/03/2018 16:41

A large capacity washer, a large capacity dryer, a couple of decent laundry baskets (one for me, one for my daughter), an ironing board that doesn't collapse, an iron that doesn't leak and a heater.

serath52 · 21/03/2018 18:09

A Laundry Fairy would be good! Failing that, a state of the art washing machine, separate dryer, heated indoor airer and steam iron, high speed wifi (for the in-between times). And a coffee machine of course!

EasterRobin · 21/03/2018 18:21

My dream laundry room would have the washing machine and dryer in the same room (rather than on two different floors which is where they are currently), room to air dry clothes on a heated airer out of sight of the rest of the house, and a dedicated sink for pre-soaking/rinsing next to the washing machine.

ThenBellaDidSomethingVeryKind · 21/03/2018 18:50

Washing machine and tumble drier in the same room. A lovely space for ironing and folding clothes. A (magic) machine for turning socks and tights back the right way - they always end up inside out! A permanent scent of Zoflora 😀

FurryTurnipHead · 21/03/2018 18:56

Space to put my indoor dryer (lakeland thing) so I don't have to use the spare bedroom, loads of storage, and a big sink for washing running shoes and walking boots which is a daily occurrence in this house. And a proper drying room, like in ski chalets, for wet waterproofs and boots but separate so other stiff doesn't get soggy and dropped on.
