Doing the laundry can be a messy task - whether that’s getting rid of your children’s unexplained stains or dealing with the piles and piles of clean clothes when you’re done. Who would blame you for dreaming about the kind of space that could make it all seem a bit more manageable. With that in mind, Fairy Non Bio would like to hear about what would be in your dream laundry room.

Here’s what Fairy Non Bio has to say: “Did you know that the average mother spends 5 months of her life doing laundry? That’s a lot of pulling tissues out of pockets, separating loads and pairing socks! Imagine that you had your own separate laundry room. What would you want to make your life easier and nicer to spend time in?”

Would you have a separate washer and dryer? Or shelves for each family member’s clothes? Perhaps you’d have a fold down ironing board? Maybe you’d have everything - from appliances to airers - hidden away in cupboards?

Whatever would be in your dream laundry room, share it below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

I'd definitely have a separate washer & dryer, plus clothes airers. And a separate laundry basket for each person to use for putting away their own stuff (encourage kids to do this from a young age). A multi bin for dirty laundry: whites, lights, darks & handwash categories. I think I'd need a bigger house for all this!

Falconhoof1 · 18/03/2018 12:25

Somewhere big enough to have washing machine, tumble dryer and clothes hanging space for winter. I'd love to have the space! Currently clothes dry in the dining room and my bedroom.

choccyp1g · 18/03/2018 13:15

I'm happy enough with my washing machine/tumble dryer combined in the kitchen, but if someone could design one that doesn't go all gunky in the dispenser drawer and the door seal I'd build a separate room just to worship the inventor.

pongopig · 18/03/2018 14:43

I would like one of those big 9kg washing machines, plus separate dryer. Room for a heated clothes rail. Loads of cupboards. I don’t do much ironing so a fold out ironing board would be fine. Maybe somewhere to hang clothes from so I could steam them.Sink for hand washing, plus space to dry jumpers flat. Looks like I might need quite a big room, I can only dream Smile

pongopig · 18/03/2018 14:47

Just read post from NeverTwerkNaked. I would like a laundry chute as well please, great idea. One chute from every bedroom in the house would be perfect.

An Aston Martin

As well as a washing machine and tumble dryer, there would be a sink and draining board to do hand washing, and an airer that you can raise up to the ceiling. There would be a surface for folding clothes. Also space to put washing baskets for dirty items ready to wash. And an ironing board permanently up and ready to go.

slithytove · 18/03/2018 16:00

Aaah this is a dream of mine]

Washer
Dryer
Baskets for each colour - darks/whites/reds/towels
Baskets for clean stuff
Space for ironing board, hoover, etc
Sink
Pulleymaid

Thinkingofausername1 · 18/03/2018 16:09

I wouldn't mind what was in it - as long as I had one one thing I regret when moving is not thinking about the laundry room....

ang65t · 18/03/2018 17:31

a nice person doing the ironing, and putting it away ( I hate putting it away)

TopangaD · 18/03/2018 17:37

Wow a laundry room separate to the kitchen??? I thought these things only existed in USA!?
We barely have room for a washing machine in our kitchen so an ideal laundry room would look like this...

Washing machine and tumble dryer, both with large drums for family loads.
Baskets for sorting dirty laundry on one side and baskets on the other for clean and dry for each family member to be folded and put away.
A space for ironing board and iron, and a tv and arm chair to keep the ironing civilized.

I would also have a line strung up for all unpaired socks

ncullinane · 18/03/2018 18:26

It would be a separate room so it's not in the kitchen, the machine would be higher up so I'm not constantly knelt on the floor. Ideally someone else would come and do it all as well but that's unlikely! 😂

flamingtoaster · 18/03/2018 19:59

I would love two washing machines - I sometimes end up giving really dirty items (think lots of mud from the park sort of thing) a quick hand wash before putting it in the washing machine as I can't bear the thought of it going through so dirty when the next wash could be our towels. So I would have one machine for things like bedding, towels etc. and one for really grubby outdoor stuff.

A ceiling airer and a dehumidifier as I would feel guilty using a tumble dryer all the time. A sink and worktops and a way of tidily letting things which need to drip dry drip!

farqualar2 · 18/03/2018 20:29

Other than a bed to have a sleep in the hot humid room, two washing machines, a fridge full of gin and tonic, a tumble dryer and lots and lots of hanging areas - if i could hang more then I wouldn't have to take everything up to the wardrobes :-)

CharliesMouse · 18/03/2018 21:48

My tumble drier is in the garage and I invariably drop clean washing on the path traipsing to and from it with my arms full so I would love a tumble drier in my dream laundry room.

Also, we have no cupboards downstairs big enough for the ironing board. For years it lived under the sofa in the living room but there's no room under our new one so now it has to live in our tiny spare room upstairs and has to be carried downstairs every time it's needed. My laundry room would have a cupboard big enough to house it along with all the giant bottles of washing liquid, softener, etc,

purplevamp · 18/03/2018 22:16

I'd love to have space to fold and sort the laundry once it's cleaned and dried.

cannotmakemymindup · 18/03/2018 22:51

A lovely warm snug yet effective space first up. I like to be warm yet spend to much time being cold.
To help with the warmth would be a condenser tumble dryer, love the smell of clean laundry drying.
Hidden and built in laundry baskets which would mean less dirty laundry upstairs - probably a foldable top that doubles as a surface area.
Clothes horse for all items that cannot be tumble dried.
A washing machine with hot and cold water plumbing system.
Cupboard for the washing powder etc,.
Storage for the ironing board as ironing requires a TV and more space than a laundry room! Grin

Lisapaige24 · 18/03/2018 23:15

One that comes with someone do the washing and ironing would be my perfect laundry room

NotAllItsCrackedUpToBe · 18/03/2018 23:50

A window looking over the garden, a tv so I can watch something whilst folding/sorting loads. A heated airer and extractor fan so I can hang stuff to dry in the room where I took it out of the washing machine. Currently carry it all to airer in lounge. Beautiful baskets and shelving for powder etc.
Hangers on a rail to put shirts straight on to from the dryer.

abitoflight · 18/03/2018 23:55

Heated floor - good for airing
Hanging rails - plus heated floor great for delicates
Washer and separate dryer
Worktops to pile folded washing
Cupboards - storage of dirty washing and washing products without being seen
Tall cupboard for ironing board
Sockets
A view to look at and a radio/device for something to occupy me whilst doing it
And a house elf so I don't have to do it at allSmile

Kmills25 · 19/03/2018 01:13

I kind of have a laundry room/ downstairs toilet but it doesn't fit much in. So I would have a washer and dryer fitted on top of each other, you know like Americans have. It would be so much easier and would mean I wouldn't have to go outside in the cold/ dark to the shed where my dryer currently is and be terrified of standing on a slug or snail. Two things that never used to bother me as a kid but now I have an irrational fear of because they all congregate outside the shed door!!

Kmills25 · 19/03/2018 01:14

Ooo I would totally also love one of those machine that iron and fold the laundry in neat little piles. I hate ironing it's so time consuming!!

Gazelda · 19/03/2018 09:48

A washer with a half load and a quick programme. And hand wash.
A separate tumble dryer.
One of those things that hangs for the ceiling to put clothes to dry on.
A large airier with a flat surface for jumpers that need drying flat.
A steam generator iron with an ironing board that is doesn't have scorch marks.
A Nespresso machine
A radio
A comfy chair.
Patio doors that overlooks the garden so I can wander in and out with line dried laundry.
Lots of baskets and storage. Space to put everything away (baskets, ironing board, airers etc).
Easy to mop floor.

N2986 · 19/03/2018 10:19

More space! I'd love a hanging rail to hang shirts etc straight up rather than draping them.over the ironing board Blush

Rkay2 · 19/03/2018 11:39

I would have a separate washer and dryer. I would have a super efficient dryer that was quick and didn't crease clothes.
There'd be a wall of cubby holes
Bottom floor funny holes - dirty clothes
Middle cubby hole - washed and folded clothes
Top cubby holes - washing powders and washing accessories
I'd also have a shelf above the washing machine and dryer to allow clothes to be taken out and folded!
