Doing the laundry can be a messy task - whether that’s getting rid of your children’s unexplained stains or dealing with the piles and piles of clean clothes when you’re done. Who would blame you for dreaming about the kind of space that could make it all seem a bit more manageable. With that in mind, Fairy Non Bio would like to hear about what would be in your dream laundry room.

Here’s what Fairy Non Bio has to say: “Did you know that the average mother spends 5 months of her life doing laundry? That’s a lot of pulling tissues out of pockets, separating loads and pairing socks! Imagine that you had your own separate laundry room. What would you want to make your life easier and nicer to spend time in?”

Would you have a separate washer and dryer? Or shelves for each family member’s clothes? Perhaps you’d have a fold down ironing board? Maybe you’d have everything - from appliances to airers - hidden away in cupboards?

Whatever would be in your dream laundry room, share it below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

a washing fairy to put it all away in the right place afterwards - though hang on, my kids think we already have one of these!

SusanWalker · 14/03/2018 12:43

Space for a washing machine and a tumble dryer. I only have space for a washing machine at the moment. And separate washing baskets on shelves for all the clean clothes to be sorted into. And an airer that pulls up to the ceiling out of the way for anything that doesn't go in the dryer. And a radio so I can listen while i'm sorting the washing.

I would love a laundry room woul be great to have room for a dryer as well as a washer and space for my clothes airers my tiny living room is currently half taken up by drying washing. Would be fab to have a sink as well for soaking things and storage space for towels and bedding

Leeds2 · 14/03/2018 14:30

Separate washer and drier. Fold down ironing board. One of those wooden drier thingys that hangs from the ceiling and can be moved up and down. A sink. Cupboard for storage. Three laundry bins for whites, darks and pastels.

EmilyK83 · 14/03/2018 14:46

Erm...a washing machine and tumble dryer that are robotic and know how to work themselves!

MummyBtothree · 14/03/2018 14:47

I'd absolutely love a room dedicated to just doing the laundry. I'd love to have separate top of the range washing machine and tumble dryer. A top of the range iron would be welcome too.

jandoc · 14/03/2018 15:23

someone to do my laundry for me :-)

mrsfluffytail · 14/03/2018 15:53

Lots of shelving for sorting laundry into piles and one of those pull down airers - I think it's called a laundry maid.

Would of course have a tumble drier as really missing one at the moment.

kittykomp · 14/03/2018 16:01

a cleaner :)

chris8888 · 14/03/2018 16:46

Mine would have an overhead pully drying rack, room for a really good washing machine with a large drum. An ironing board, space to fold clothes and an industrial tumble dryer for the towels and bedding. Easy clean flooring and a free electricity supply :)

HeavenlyCharm · 14/03/2018 16:47

Our 'laundry room' is the kitchen so our washing machine doesn't take a huge load so I end up doing several a day. I'd love to be able to wash and dry in one machine than having clothes hanging up all over the house when the weather is bad.

itsali · 14/03/2018 17:08

A state of the art ecological washing machine, several cupboards with pull out laundry bins for each type/colour, hanging rails for washed and ironed items, a stack of baskets for sorting, a shelf with a range of laundry products for every fabric, pull out hanging with pegs for small items. I could go on as I like doing laundry :)

NotTheNineInchNails · 14/03/2018 17:28

As with others here, it would be on the first floor so no need for lugging baskets up and down stairs. And the magic word would be STORAGE. A shelf/drawer system to separate colours and fabrics. Cupboard to put the powder and liquid etc into so they're not sitting on the windowsill looking messy like they do now. Hooks for the broom and dustpan and brush that also live in there. Cupboard for the hoover would be nice too. More space for airers to go so we don't have to keep fighting with them to get to the washing machine or the back door.

I'd keep my existing rail across the ceiling though, that's handy for hanging things.

Mochamocha · 14/03/2018 17:40

I have often daydreamed about my perfect laundry room.
It would be very spacious with TWO washing machines (I do that much washing) and a separate tumble dryer.
A dehumidifier and airers for items that cannot be tumble dried. I'd have shelving for the piles of clean clothes etc.
A cupboard to keep in the washing baskets, detergents, fabric conditioner, stain removers.

It would be big enough to have the ironing board to be set up, which means I'd iron as soon as the clothes were dry, instead of creating an ironing mountain like present.
Finally as this would be a very well used room, im thinking a radio and Bluetooth speakers as everything is easier with music.

OutsideContextProblem · 14/03/2018 18:01

Apart from everything else everyone else has mentioned I’d have a little telly linked up to Netflix to watch while I’m doing the ironing.

givemeyourbadge · 14/03/2018 18:12

Two washing machines.

Room to hang the ironing.

Room for clothes airers & underfloor heating.

Chute from upstairs.

Door through to covered ( roofed) outside area complete with clothes lines, so I don't have to cry start again if it rains.

Lots of sleek storage cupboards.

An oversized sink and drainer.

A TV , Bluetooth speakers and a radio

A miele rotary iron for the bed linen.

To be honest, I think the main thing everybody wants is MORE SPACE. I think most architects must be evil because they design such tiny spaces for the utility/laundry room, (let's face it, no-one wants to stand in a bloody cupboard for an average of 5 months of their life.)

A separate room just for the laundry (I.e a Laundry room!) with a separate washer and dryer. Oh and a magical fairy which makes all the laundary end up in the washing basket.

vickyors · 14/03/2018 18:59

A really nice surface to put stuff on.

Oooooo! A warming cupboard! (Like an airing cupboard)

Somewhere with heated flooring...
And a nice sink..

spottypjs · 14/03/2018 19:12

More counter space, really any counter space would be nice. A big sink with one of those shower taps and a washer and drier.

badgermum · 14/03/2018 19:31

A large work unit with three large holes int eh worktop with an open and close cover on each hole and a pull out basket underneath each one, for white's, dark's, and bedding/towels they would be out of sight for the most part and the work top would be useful for folding done washing, treating stains etc
I'd also love an environmentally friendly and economical heated airier and a ceiling pull down heated airier to dry without using the tumble dryer too much

sweir1 · 14/03/2018 19:56

Room for a washing machine and a dryer

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 14/03/2018 20:10

I already have mine because my house used to be a care home. It is MASSIVE. I have 3 maidens and cubby holes for everyone's stuff.

twinklenic · 14/03/2018 20:24

id just be happy to have a dedicated laundry room instead of it taking over my kitchen !!!
