Doing the laundry can be a messy task - whether that’s getting rid of your children’s unexplained stains or dealing with the piles and piles of clean clothes when you’re done. Who would blame you for dreaming about the kind of space that could make it all seem a bit more manageable. With that in mind, Fairy Non Bio would like to hear about what would be in your dream laundry room.

Here’s what Fairy Non Bio has to say: “Did you know that the average mother spends 5 months of her life doing laundry? That’s a lot of pulling tissues out of pockets, separating loads and pairing socks! Imagine that you had your own separate laundry room. What would you want to make your life easier and nicer to spend time in?”

Would you have a separate washer and dryer? Or shelves for each family member’s clothes? Perhaps you’d have a fold down ironing board? Maybe you’d have everything - from appliances to airers - hidden away in cupboards?

Whatever would be in your dream laundry room, share it below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Drying space definitely or a heated airer, fed up of having mine in the living room! A washer dryer would be useful too

pennwood · 14/03/2018 20:58

Cupboards that actually fit the large economy sizes of washing products would be wish 1.
Hidden ironing board that just pulls out wish 2.
Large airer space & south facing room to benefit from the sun wish 3.
Top of the range washing machine wish 4

A sink, washing machine, tumble dryer, tv and sky box. I'd also have a hamper to keep ironing in. I'd have the IKEA four space unit with boxes labels with each family member's name on it. I'd put the ironed clothes in there, so they would have a box of clothes to take upstairs to put away. The tv and sky box are there because ironing is the most boring thing on planet Earth. The sink is for soaking and hand washing. I'd also have an area big enough for a clothes horse for clothes that don't go in the dryer.

Jengle · 14/03/2018 22:34

My washing machine is in the outhouse as my kitchen is too small to fit it in! I would love my laundry room to be in the house so I don’t freeze putting washing in, it would be big enough to fit the washer and dryer, a shelf for holding washing powder, a clothes rack for the ironing to go straight on to, hmmm, I think that would do 😀

Flapdoodles · 14/03/2018 22:44

A larger room with more floor space. I have a counter with washer and tumble dryer but I end up with the clothes all on the floor in colour piles - I would like enough room to store them in boxes until I am ready to wash them. Definitely room for the clothes horse too.

MrRichTea · 15/03/2018 00:25

Lots of space for loading clothes, washer dryer, fold in / out iron board, storage galore!

torthecatlady · 15/03/2018 00:46

I can dream...

Beautiful units
Washing machine
Tumble dryer
Wooden hanging airer
Sink and draining board
A cupboard for the ironing board with a shelf inside for ironing water and iron
Space in the corner for the cat bowls
Shoe rack next to the door leading outside to the washing line
Pantry
Wine rack

aubergineterrine · 15/03/2018 01:15

Two washing machines (I do 3/4 large loads daily)
Tumble dryer
Cupboard for Fairy Liquid, conditioner, Vanish etc
Double sided shower so sporty family can dump dirty kit on one side then emerge on the clean side with fresh towels and laundry
Shelves for clean washing
4 washing baskets for colours, whites, pastels, wool
Drying racks for the Winter
Ironing board and iron set up permanently
Armchair and little side table
Sink for hand washing, washing trainers etc
Speaker to listen to music
Door to garden to hang out washing

I day dream about this room, and with a large family seem to be washing all the time. Having a space to myself would be lovely. It's the household 'chore' I enjoy the most, especially hanging washing out on a warm breezy day.

SleepingStandingUp · 15/03/2018 01:30

Chris Hemsworth in just a pinny, doing all the laundry. I might go and keep him company...

jamielmdjs · 15/03/2018 02:21

Definitely seperate washer and dryer. Nice big windows to let in the breeze (and radiator for added heat). Pull out, built in airers/lines for easy hanging. Sorted washing baskets fed by laundry chutes from each bedroom. little lifts to send the clean, ironed clothes back up. And a nice TV and sound system for entertainment while ironing.

kateandme · 15/03/2018 06:50

the obvious washer and dryer.then shelves for the washing so I can put everyone stuff into piles.counter space.
a tv and radio

nice lighting.it could double as a sort of snug.
a shoot to send washing up or down.
kettle hang rail. area so kids can be.this is one big room people!
a cupbaord where things like suits.smart dresses can always be kept.
a sink.
it would be light blue coloured walls.blue carpet.wooden tops.white ivory cupabrds colours.

rhinosuze · 15/03/2018 07:32

A calm good sized room, two machines, space for drying (we have a flat so can't peg stuff out) and somebody to do the ironing!!!

wonderstuff16 · 15/03/2018 09:10

A housekeeper hidden in there too!

Sadandpregnantlady2018 · 15/03/2018 09:16

Firstly upstairs with the bedrooms! (No idea why English people always have the washing machines downstairs it makes no sense!)
Two stacked washing machines and dryers. Lots of counter space for folding, shelving with baskets to store dirty washing labeled with names. And a wall mounted airer for delicates.Grin
Weirdly enough I actually would rather this then have a housekeeper doing the washing.

SoupDragon · 15/03/2018 09:46

I would hate them upstairs as I like to line dry my laundry whenever possible.

CopperPan · 15/03/2018 09:47

I would love a separate laundry room with an airer instead of having to put it in the living room! Separate washer and dryer would be essential, steam generator, lots of hanging space and separate laundry baskets for everyone. Lots of baskets for folded laundry as they will probably sit there for quite a while before anyone gets around to putting them back in the wardrobes!

runkaterun · 15/03/2018 09:51

Space for a basket for each member of the house, fold down ironing board and tv with all channels and hands-free phone (for ironing time) separate washer and dryer plus somewhere to soak currently baby stuff, expecting sports stuff in the future

Amber0685 · 15/03/2018 10:10

A room on the ground floor with windows and glass doors so you can see outside to the garden, the washing line is just around the corner tucked into a small side garden along with the bins, there is a door to get to it. I would have double sinks a washer and a dryer. A fold up ironing station, shelves for each persons clothes, 3 drawers for dirty washing; white, colours and delicate, just next to the cupboard the laundry shoot empties into. There would be plenty of cupboards for cleaning supplies and washing powder. The worktop would be long and there would be a rail for the clothes waiting to be ironed.

AveAtqueVale · 15/03/2018 10:23

I’d have an upstairs laundry room with a separate washer and dryer, a sink for rinsing and a drying rack hanging from the ceiling. There would be counter space for folding, a rack to hold laundry baskets for each family member, an iron and ironing board and a tv and Bluetooth sound system for listening to podcasts. I actually love ironing but don’t do it now as have no time. So I’d quite like my laundry room to be equipped with some sort of time machine that could give me the odd bonus hour or two.

GeekyWombat · 15/03/2018 12:46

Industrial size washing machine and tumble drier, plenty of cupboard space to hide laundry baskets of clothes waiting to be put away, hanging space and then an ironing machine so all my bedlinen and things could be pressed and look all hotel posh without me actually having to put in the work!

RomaineCalm · 15/03/2018 12:56

I would love a huge laundry room.

Nicely decorated and with a radio. Huge washer and dryer and a worktop along one side of the room with room for several laundry baskets for clean stuff. Shelves for laundry/cleaning products. Hanging rail for things that have been ironed. Maybe one of those ceiling airers for stuff that can't be tumbled.

Magic 'coat hanger sorter' keeping different types of hangers together and not in a tangled heap.

Room to keep the ironing board up all of the time and separate 'bins' for whites, colours and black/navy clothes ready to be be washed.

Door with a path to the outside washing line. Window overlooking the garden with a bird feeder. Oh, and it would smell lovely!

(I hate doing laundry by the way and I am under no illusion that this setup will turn me into sort sort of domestic goddess)

Ratbagratty · 15/03/2018 12:59

Oooh id like some kind of device in that I could hang clothes up on then at switch of button it would go outside on a line to dry, then to collect it'd be in reverse.

lfcvicki · 15/03/2018 13:36

I would love a separate laundry room that led straight onto the garden to hang my washing. There would also be a huge radiator to dry "delicates" (fully ventilated room of course!). I'd love shelves for all my laundry products and a fold out ironing board! Perfect!

thesockgap · 15/03/2018 14:23

We are very limited for space, so our current situation is washing machine only (no dryer) and some clothes go on the line in the yard, others go on maidens in the loft.
So in my dream laundry room, which would be in my new very large dream house (!), I would have laundry baskets which the children would magically be able to locate and put their clothes in them - correct colours together, no mixed darks and whites etc! I'd have a great washing machine, a dryer that didn't leave the clothes all creased and wrinkly, and plenty of space to hang stuff up that needed it. And ideally, a laundry assistant to take care of it all!

TellMeItsNotTrue · 15/03/2018 14:47

Realistically, I covet a heated airer after seeing numerous posts on MN over the years about how great they are

While I'm dreaming, it would be someone to take dirty clothes and hand back clean, ironed, lovely scented clothes
