@Minnibix - I have just looked up that Jamie Oliver hot cross bun marmelade bread and butter pudding recipe and it looks fabulous! I may well do that this Easter - thanks!! My tastebuds are grateful even if my waistline won't be.

MummyBtothree · 14/03/2018 14:43

I like using hot cross buns to make a traditional bread & butter pudding...delish.

EmilyK83 · 14/03/2018 14:44

I make hot cross bun and butter pudding! Slice hot cross buns in half and spread with marmalade, place a layer in a dish and dot with cubes of marzipan. Do the same again, pour over custard and bake...so naughty, but so good!

Minnibix · 14/03/2018 16:17

Sorry, I have a feeling you may become an addict as well :D enjoy it is worth the effort

We always have boiled eggs with crispy egg and bacon soldiers for breakfast, roast lamb for lunch and home made simnel cakes for dessert.

Our family has a 'Easter Pudding' tradition made with hot x buns sliced and laid out in a baking dish then coated in apricot jam and finally topped with vanilla custard and baked in the oven for 20 minutes it is served as our dessert on Easter Sunday

I always pinch some of the chocolate Easter eggs to make Chocolate Orange Fudge. Easy to make along with kiddies.

380g of chocolate drops
60g pecans chopped up
397g tin of condensed sweetened milk
1 dessertspoon of grated orange zest

Line a square tin with parchment.
Melt the chocolate with the condensed milk in the microwave.
Stir until smooth & add grated orange zest & pecans.
Put into the tin & chill until firm, then cut into squares.
Keep in the fridge covered until used.

I wrap creme eggs in a pancake and microwave them to melt the creme egg into a deliciously gooey pancake sauce.

We love making lemon drizzle cake but making it as mini muffins with a couple of little fruity jelly eggs on top

PhilTB54 · 15/03/2018 19:51

Hot X buns made into a bread pudding. Tastes fantastic.

Hot cross bun fondue! Toast hot cross buns, butter them, slice them into fingers, then dunk in melted easter egg!

Boiled egg wrapped in sausage meat and rolled in hot cross bun breadcrumbs for Easter Scotch Eggs

MillyVanilli222 · 16/03/2018 11:59

I always make Creme egg brownies - normal brownies, but with Creme eggs sliced in half and popped into the top 5mins before they finish baking. So delicious, and super popular with the whole family!

sallyann123 · 16/03/2018 13:25

Shredded wheat cakes! Break up shredded wheat in a bowl & add chocolate & treacle (black treacle best) then mix together, shape like nests in bun cases and add mini eggs! Easy, fun and great for kids to do

I've never successfully managed to bake my own hot cross bun so we always buy them. But I did make a nice simnel cake which was less fruity but still very tasty which the kids loved.

I also often buy them some plain chocolate eggs and give them some icing and cakey sprinkly bits and they 'decorate' their easter eggs this way. lots of fun and keeps them busy while i prep the lunch.

We do a few things we make Cadbury cream egg cheese cake. Hot cross buns with chocolate spread and sprinkled with Mini chocolate eggs crushed. Cadbury cream egg milk shakes. Honey glazed roast potatoes and honey glazed Gammon topped with yoghurt and mint and melted cheese. Some lovely crunchy roasted vegetables really sweet but amazing it's also nice with chicken breasts

I like to make truffles instead of hard chocolate eggs as tempering chocolate can be difficult. However the best part about making truffles is you can give it an unusual twist too!

For the truffles I like to add: raisins,, mash mellows, dried cranberries or even pistachios.

Hot cross buns make great bread and butter pudding with a light vanilla custard mix

This is our first Easter as vegetarians for myself and DH. I’m planning a filo pastry veggie pie with spinach ( one of our favourite veggies) garlic, pine nuts, feta cheese, red peppers, courgette, mushrooms and what ever looks good when I shop.

A smear of cranberry sauce on the bottom of the pie before adding the mixture of chopped veggies.

Wilt the spinach before putting it in the filo pastry otherwise you’ll end up with a soggy bottom! Plenty of nutmeg grated into the spinach tastes great too.

Gather the filo pastry up around the filling to form the top, it’s all very rustic looking. Tastes great hot and cold.

For dessert I shall be doing my caramel spiced bananas.

Slice banana lengthwise.
Put a large knob of butter about 25gm into a frying pan.
Add about 25 gm dark sugar.
When butter is bubbling add bananas.
Sprinkle with cinnamon.
Dont have the heat too high as burnt sugar is nasty.
Flip bananas over after 2 minutes.
Serve with ice cream.

130g dark cooking chocolate
130g unsalted butter
60g choc chips
170g brown sugar
3 eggs (medium)
110g plain flour
1 tsp baking powder
2 tbsp apple cider vinegar

Break the dark chocolate into pieces and melt together with the butter over a low heat.
Place the chocolate mixture into a large bowl with the sugar and whisk together until smooth.
Add the eggs and continue to whisk until combined and smooth.
Using a wooden spoon, stir in the flour and vinegar until fully combined. The mixture should be quite thick.
Pour the mixture into the baking tin and bake in the oven for 20 – 25 minutes (180c).

Should mention that the above is for brownies!!!
