Hot cross bun bread & butter pudding....

mumto2teenagers · 10/03/2018 19:26

Hide a few mini eggs in your kids favourite cereal as an easter sunday treat.

melanieb32 · 10/03/2018 21:35

I love making Easter bark, it is very quick and easy to make and looks very effective, basically you melt equal parts of milk and white chocolate so either 2 bars or 3 of each then pour them one at a time into a lined baking tray (lined with greaseproof paper) then swirl them through each other, throw on some chopped up mini eggs (leave some whole for decoration on the top), stick it in the fridge for a couple of hours to set. Once set pull it out of the baking tray with the greaseproof paper, peel that off and then break it up into rectangles or odd shapes and either wrap in cellophane as a gift or place on a plate for tea, very moreish and quick and easy to make!

Because as kids we didn't like the spiciness and raisins of Hot Cross Buns my mum used to replace the raisins with chocolate chips then when they were cooked she used to scoop out a hole in the middle of each bun and fill with strawberry jam and buttercream. So we still felt included in the classic Easter recipe but it was a lot sweeter.

We always make hot cross buns for the grandparents. Top tip is to make the dough in the bread maker, it makes the kitchen smell gorgeous and then the kids can make the buns and I pop them in the oven. We use pastry for the crosses or icing sometimes. The grandparents love them. It's our little tradition now.

Roast lamb with roasted feta cheese & pomegranate seeds. Delicious!

Mallowmarshmallow · 12/03/2018 22:12

We're all about the mini eggs; chocolate brownies, rocky road, cheesecake....all made better by the addition of a mini egg...!

ohlittlepea · 13/03/2018 08:07

melting down the eggs to make an Easter Tiffin with crushed biscuits and raisins is a fave here..little bit of golden syrup to make it gooey and delicious.

we also make egg shaped pancakes
1 cup oat milk
1 cup flour
1 egg
1 mashed banana
1 tsp cocoa powder

chocolatey and relatively healthy compared to the rest of the days offerings!

SSCRASE123 · 13/03/2018 08:21

We get chocs etc. left over from Xmas (as there are always loads still) mix them all up into a bowl of melted chocolate, add in mini marshmallows and some biscuit pieces and make fantastic Rocky Road cakes.

KARINAJ83 · 13/03/2018 08:30

we are big fans of hot chocolate milkshakes with chocolate chip cookies! Nothing better than using up the last of the easter chocolate and having snuggles in the warm.

melting chocolate into hot milk, topping with ice cream and mini marshmallows. (can also add a cheeky splash of brandy for the adults, it is easter after all!)

AR2012 · 13/03/2018 09:04

roasted lamb chops with sumac for me

angiehoggett · 13/03/2018 11:44

I make homemade hot cross buns but I use a brioche style recipe to get that lovely light sweet dough. For Easter breakfast we have these toasted and filled with smoked bacon and tomato chutney!

freedomofspeech · 13/03/2018 12:11

vegan lemon easter cakes, made with almond milk, flour, sunflower oil, conrstarch, lemon zest, vanilla extract. lovely

pinkflump · 13/03/2018 12:48

We always have a big Sunday roast on Easter Sunday with a more expensive cut of meat - maybe a whole leg of lamb or a big joint of beef! It's very much like a Christmas dinner for us Grin

oliveoyl72 · 13/03/2018 13:21

Chocolate mousse pudding set in half easter egg shells (add to/decorate to taste) - choctastic!

Cress head 'Eggberts' - paint old egg shells and use to grow cress 'hair'

RACHELSMITH45 · 13/03/2018 13:29

Easter rocky road, all the rocky road ingredients but with crème egg added!!

BlackeyedPetitsPois · 13/03/2018 13:54

Hot cross bun bread and butter pudding! It’s amazingly easy - just substitute bread for sliced and buttered buns. Add chocolate chips too for an even more decadent and naughty pud.

Banoffee Hot Cross Buns

For the buns:
300ml full-fat milk
50g butter
500g bread flour
1 tsp salt
75g caster sugar
1 and 1/2 teaspoons yeast
1 egg, beaten
50g sultanas
50g walnuts – roughly chopped
1 very ripe banana – mashed
2 tsp ground cinnamon
For the cross:
75g flour
a little water to mix

Gently heat the milk then add the butter and leave to cool slightly.
Put the flour, salt, sugar and yeast into a bowl. Make a well in the centre and pour in the warm milk and butter mixture then add the egg. Using a wooden spoon, mix well, then bring everything together with your hands until you have a very sticky dough.
Flour your hands well and begin to knead the dough in the bowl, then when it’s less tacky tip it out on to a lightly floured surface and knead for 5 mins until smooth. Put the dough in a lightly oiled bowl. Cover with cling film and leave to rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
With the dough still in the bowl add the sultanas, walnuts, mashed bananas and cinnamon and knead into the dough, making sure everything is well distributed. Cover with the cling film and leave to rise for another hour.
Lightly oil your hands and then divide the dough into 12 even pieces and roll each piece into a smooth ball on a lightly oiled work surface. Arrange the buns on one or two baking trays lined with greased-proof paper leaving enough space for the dough to expand. Drape with oiled cling film, or a clean tea towel, then set aside to prove for an hour.
Heat the oven to 200C fan assisted and make the cross paste by mixing the flour with about 5 tbsp water – add the water 1 tbsp at a time, so you add just enough for a thick paste. Use a steady hand, a spoon or a piping bag and pipe a line along each row of buns, then repeat in the other direction to create crosses. Bake for 20 mins on the middle shelf of the oven, until golden brown.
As soon as they come out of the oven brush the tops with a little toffee sauce and set aside to cool.

Chocolate Easter Trifle - Use thin slices of chocolate cake, slices of banana (optional) top with vanilla custard, then chocolate custard ad top with whipped cream and decorate with halved eggs

Blainalass · 13/03/2018 15:24

Home made chocolates. Melt shop bought chocolate - mainly the cheapest available but with one bar of really good stuff - and pour into silcone novelty ice cube trays with assorted 'stuff' - raisins, cranberries, coffee, nuts, etc.

Hot Cross bun & Marmalade bread & butter pudding, its delicious and has been a firm favourite desert in our house, since I saw it in the Jamie Oliver cook book.

tabbaz123 · 13/03/2018 18:56

We love using stale Hot Cross Buns (If we ever do leave them that long) to make Bread Pudding...Mrs Beetons recipe but using Hot Cross Buns instead is just so good - the children love helping to make this as their hands get gooey and stodgy too

gd2011 · 13/03/2018 19:59
