Easter party plans? The team at Lidl are eager to find out the exciting and unusual recipes Mumsnetters rely on when faced with the challenge of hosting at Easter time. Whether you add a twist to the usual Easter fare by combining seasonal classics and unexpected cuisines, spice up customary hot cross buns with an unusual ingredient, or indulge in a special family tradition, Lidl would love to know.

Whether it’s baking, barbecuing or simply artfully arranging, Lidl would love to hear the twist on an old favourite you will be showing off this Easter.

Please post your recipes on this thread and you will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will get £100 worth of Lidl vouchers (note the winner will be sent 4 x £25 vouchers, one voucher can be redeemed per transaction).

Thanks and good luck!

Not very imaginative but adding mini eggs to the chocolate crispy cakes and brownies that we make goes down a storm.

ApocalypseNowt · 04/03/2018 20:43

Standard hot cross buns recipe (by which I mean Be-ro obvs) but add in orange zest and cranberries.

Must be consumed straight out of the oven with real butter. Mmmmmm.........

We like the classic Shedded Wheat chocolate nests but we make ours with Terry's Chocolate Orange. We use white Milkybar eggs.

We also do a flat Rice Crispy chocolate round (they used to sell these ready made when I was young, in a cirlce with 'break' lines) where we mix melted chocolate with rice crispies, juicy sultanas and crushed walnuts. we let this set then drizzle over melted white and dark chocolate.

We always have Roast beef on Easter sunday (dc don't like lamb) and then on the monday we make a huge steaming pot of stovies! They are delicous and if we have time I make some fresh bread to dip in mmmm Envy

For brunch after the Easter Egg Hunt: Kedgeree with salmon rather than smoked haddock, rice flavoured with cumin and coriander, lime zest and then finished off with loads of chopped coriander and wedges of lime. Looks lovely with the pink salmon and green of the coriander and the white & orange of the boiled eggs.

Adapted from a Nigella recipe Smile

We make shredded wheat nests using cadbury milk chocolate and grated terrys chocolate orange on the top with 3 mini eggs. They go down a treat!

Chocolate rice crispy cakes complete with chocolate eggs and mini chicks.

briwig · 08/03/2018 10:15

It’s simple, but I love adding a tiny bit of orange zest to our hot cross buns, as it adds a zing to them and makes them a little fruity.

nikkinemo · 09/03/2018 10:51

we have a firm family fave here..a lidl chocolate easter egg with the top broken off then layer up with nutella and lidl choc ide cream topped with a squirt of whipper cream, wafer and i let the kids add choccie toppings ..voila..a lidl touch of heaven

flamingtoaster · 09/03/2018 14:27

Chocolate puddle pudding gets an Easter twist by decorating the top with mini eggs before serving.

I also do a fruit pudding (sultanas and apples - or another combination of fruit - on the bottom) topped with a sponge mixture to which I have added the spices traditionally put into Hot Cross Buns.

TracyKNixon · 09/03/2018 17:01

I make hot cross bun ice-cream sandwiches! Just grill/toast your hot cross buns then half and add butter, orange buttercream and vanilla ice-cream!

Grumpbum · 09/03/2018 17:08

We allow the children to have chocolate cereal out of a bowl Made from half a Easter egg for their breakfast, then always lamb later in the day

mrsglowglow · 09/03/2018 18:51

we make Easter crackers (like Christmas), with Easter hats, jokes and chocolate surprise. They make nice table secs and keep the kids busy for a day making.

quizqueen · 09/03/2018 21:24

Hard boiled eggs, decorate to look like a family member, animal, famous person or fictional character using food or other household bits.

Hummingbird carrot cake decorated with chocolate mini eggs yum 😋

aggga8 · 10/03/2018 12:44

Eggs- potatoes salads. Boil eggs, potatoes, cut in small piece add gerkins, leek and mayoneise, salt and pepper. Mix together, perfect Easter salads:)

welshmardymum · 10/03/2018 12:48

i make simnel cake buns - basically a normal bun recipe with a dollop of marzipan inside and a circle cut out and pressed on the top - prob from a free magazine years ago but its a great fave in our house!

FlukeSkyeRunner · 10/03/2018 12:58

Lamb Raan (recipe from Made In India by Meera Sodha) instead of the usual roast lamb. Yum.

SilverHairedCat · 10/03/2018 13:40

Dying eggs for breakfast, just as my grandmother used to do for my mother, and she did for me!

Boiled eggs, with a few drops of food colouring in the pan and a few spoons of white vinegar. Super easy!

SilverJellyfish · 10/03/2018 13:46

Leg of lamb, slathered in tumeric, infused with crushed garlic cloves and rosemary and roasted for a few hours...delicious!

CecilyBlue · 10/03/2018 14:30

The day after Easter we always melt down a couple of our chocolate eggs and make chocolate fruit kebabs.
