In the unlikely event of having any creme eggs left over, they melt down really well to do rice crispy cakes. You have to melt them slowly (with a bain marie) to the chocolate doesn't go all stringy and horrible.

Hot cross buns with a slice of cheese on is delicious. The saying in our house is cheese goes with everything and in this case it's true. Very random combination but lovely.

We make gluten-free hot cross buns as DD is intolerant. We use a gluten-free bread flour, milk, orange zest, butter, egg, sugar, yeast, mixed spices, mixed fruit, dried cranberries, mixed peel. Mix it all together and divide into balls, allow to rise for an hour. Brush with beaten egg and make a cross with plain flour piped on (or sugar icing). Bake for 25 mins. Delicious!

Hard boiled eggs rolled down the hill furthest without cracking wins. Easter pudding, bread and butter pudding made with hot cross buns, yum

Creme egg cheesecake. Very indulgent and very delicious.

I have also been know to nibble to top off a small hollow egg/bunny and fill it with Bailey's.

A truly twisted easter meal would be lamb slow roasted in chocolate easter eggs.. i haven't been brave enough to try it

IWouldBeSuperb · 27/02/2018 06:31

Using hot cross buns instead of bread make a delicious bread and butter pudding!

AveAtqueVale · 27/02/2018 10:20

Creme egg cheesecake! Absolutely amazing.

fudgiebutt · 27/02/2018 11:01

Normal pancakes like you'd make for shrove Tuesday, mash up some creme eggs and put in the pancake once cooked, then roll up, squash the ends closed and whack them back on the pan for a few seconds so it's all melty. Oh god I'm salivating already

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 27/02/2018 11:53

Not my recipe, but one I have every intention of trying, this Easter.

Creme egg (or similar). Digestive biscuits crushed and mixed with melted chocolate, to make a mouldable dough. Mould this around the creme eggs, and allow to cool. Roll in a bit more melted chocolate and cover in more digestive crumbs - so the end result looks like a scotch egg.

For dinner on Easter sunday, we'll be having the classic leg of lamb, with rosemary and garlic slivers poked into slits in the meat.

WonderLime · 27/02/2018 17:25

I always make a carrot cake, but last year I thought I'd mix things up again - coconut oil instead of vegetable oil and I made chocolate, cream cheese frosting. It was incredibly decadent and rather delicious.

we made little Easter nests out of crownfield wholegrain mini wheats, melted chocolate and some mini eggs. We had great fun making them and they looked lovely.

We have an old family recipe for good friday , where traditionally you don't eat meat.
They may have a proper name but we call them 'specials' !
Basically , bake large potatoes until they are soft , scoop out the middle and mash together with fresh tomatoes ( skin off ) white pepper and strong cheddar. pop the mixture back into the skins and add some more grated cheddar on the top , and bake again until the cheese is melted. Lovely served with a crisp salad .
I suppose you could have these as a side dish with meat or fish or add chopped bacon to the mixture.
Mmmmm I think it's time I made these again !

Abis04 · 28/02/2018 19:58

Always lamb for lunch but the bread and butter pudding made out of hot cross buns!

CathBookworm · 28/02/2018 20:10

I can recommend Easter Egg Brownies, which is basically your normal brownie recipe, with mini Creme Eggs mixed in-delicious!

I love 'Easter pizzas' when the dough (pre-bought and moulded into an oval or an easily made pizza dough if you have more time), When decorated with cheese and tomato, and decorated in peppers, sweetcorn, red onion ....well the possibilities are endless. You can have fun making and decorating them, and adding some chopped veggies means your DC's forget they are eating the veg they would not usually try.

We have a tradition of making a bread and butter type pudding using hot cross buns Smile we've tried hot cross bun loaf but that is too much like normal bread and butter pudding, it has to be proper hot cross buns

newstart2018 · 01/03/2018 18:11

I make the hummingbird carrot cake and decorate it with mini eggs.

FawnDrench · 01/03/2018 18:53

Easter egg Nutella hot cross bun pudding here - like a traditional bread and butter pud but substituting hot cross buns.
These are spread with Nutella prior to being cut up and placed in the dish.
Then covered with custard made from eggs, sugar, melted cream and Easter egg chocolate - can use white or milk or plain or a mixture.

Delicious and very Eastery with a rich taste so you don't need that much (not that it lasts....)

defineme · 01/03/2018 19:04

For breakfast we jazz up pancakes with chocolate eggs. Lunch has to be roast lamb with lots of rosemary and garlic, but our special pudding is bread and butter pudding made with hot cross buns.

DontFundHate · 01/03/2018 20:40

Got to be a simnel cake, with lots of marzipan and mini eggs on top. Yum

danigrace · 01/03/2018 20:55

Cut 6 hot cross buns in half and butter the cut sides, sprinkle with chocolate chips or spread with marmalade, sandwich together again and place in a greased baking dish.
Beat 2 eggs, 250ml milk and 1tbsp sugar (optional dash of brandy) together and pour over. Scatter with chocolate chips and bake for 30-35 minutes until just set.

vickyors · 01/03/2018 20:58
