A good night's sleep is something many of us long to have, and would go to great lengths to get. That’s why Dreams would like to know your top tips and successful methods for getting a great night’s sleep, whether that’s perfecting the temperature in your bedroom or a never fail tactic to keep children in their rooms.

Here’s what Dreams has to say: “At Dreams, we understand the importance of a great night’s sleep and we know this can seem like an impossible challenge for new parents or parents to be. That’s why we’re delighted to be working with Mumsnet and its community of parents to help you get the sleep you deserve.”

Do you have a routine that helps you to relax before bed so that you drift off easily - a relaxing bath or a no-phones period? Perhaps you have arranged your bedding so that it’s comfortable for both you and your partner? Maybe ear plugs have revolutionised your sleep or you meditate before bed to stop you overthinking and worrying about things? Do you avoid certain things like coffee or eating late at night or maybe you have a particular hot drink or music to listen to that works a treat?

Whatever you do to help you improve your quality of sleep please share it below. Everyone who leaves a comment will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

i tend to put technology out of reach so i can sleep without distractions and dont get tempted to search the net we also dont watch tv in our room x

TheNoseyProject · 25/02/2018 11:15

I’m a bad sleeper who is sometimes a terrible sleeper. It needs to not be too hot, cooler is better. Needs to be dark - light mornings and evenings are not my friends! I do like Lush’s ‘sleepy’ lotion.

When you wake up in the night. Go to the loo and don’t switch the light on and don’t look at the clock.

I read in bed for 15 mins. I can't get into bed and fall straight asleep so this helps me relax.
If Im struggling to get to sleep, I watch ASMR videos and they send me into sleep every time.Blush

Blackout blinds definitely! Having a good routine that works for you.

Nicole1709 · 25/02/2018 15:45

I like to sleep with the window open. I like the room to be cold, but inside my duvet I am warm and cosy. I found the noises outside to be soothing.

sheitani · 25/02/2018 17:55

I always wear an eyeshade and ear plugs.

Kangar00 · 25/02/2018 18:15

For me, my pyjamas affect my quality of sleep. When I wear pure silk I sleep more soundly. I also spray my pillow with peppermint and nutmeg.

AveAtqueVale · 25/02/2018 20:12

A made bed, a cold dark room with a window open and warm pyjamas. I also love being able to hear rain or the sea but white noise does instead. No toddlers in the bed.

A dark room, or eyemask
Absolute quiet
A memory foam mattresses
No caffeine after 12pm
No blue light after 9pm
A cool bedroom
No-one turning over violently next to me (partner guilty of this)
King or superkng sized bed

badgermum · 26/02/2018 10:29

I have found that a cool dark room is the secret for a good nights sleep, I have also found bribing the children to stay in bed until it's light is also a good way of getting decent sleep. With babies I had a baby-gro sleeping bag with my third and he slept safe and soundly from the word go and even when he got to the climbing out f his cot stage found that the sleeping bag prevented him from doing so thus ensuring better nights sleep all round. Investing in a couple of those gro-bag sleeping bags is well worth every penny

Thank you EmmaMumsnet! Absolutely delighted. Now to decide whether to choose a "sensible" voucher or one for somewhere more frivolous!

sbruin1122 · 27/02/2018 10:48

go to bed before midnight.

user1491928364 · 27/02/2018 13:01

a good quality, preferably silk, eye mask

user1485629191 · 27/02/2018 13:36

Nice warm bed and blackout curtains (especially useful in the summer!)

melmoo · 27/02/2018 23:39

No screens for at least an hour before bed. The sleep problem of the 21st century.

princesssmithee · 01/03/2018 01:25

i would say lavender oil on my pillow and my fav teddy hehe

thisone2 · 01/03/2018 14:33

Blackout blinds have worked really well for me. I have to seal out all the light or it doesn't work, every little chink.

Alexipop101 · 01/03/2018 22:18

I find a bath with lavender bath soak just before bed, followed by some Lush sleepy lotion and fresh sheets on the bed is a perfect recipe for a good long deep sleep... not that I know what that’s like now I’ve had a baby! 😂

cathwarbur · 01/03/2018 22:21

prepare for your nights sleep. try to exercise during the day, a relaxing bath or shower half an hour before bedtime and a warm milky drink before bed to relax. When in bed try to relax your body and set the opitimum temp for nightime. gurantees a good nights sleep

KAKADU2001 · 02/03/2018 09:25

I do a really hard 60 minute session on my outside rower come rain shine or snow. Then a cold shower followed by my hemp, turmeric, black pepper, blueberry, pineapple, pomegranate and avocado smoothie.
