A good night's sleep is something many of us long to have, and would go to great lengths to get. That’s why Dreams would like to know your top tips and successful methods for getting a great night’s sleep, whether that’s perfecting the temperature in your bedroom or a never fail tactic to keep children in their rooms.

Do you have a routine that helps you to relax before bed so that you drift off easily - a relaxing bath or a no-phones period? Perhaps you have arranged your bedding so that it’s comfortable for both you and your partner? Maybe ear plugs have revolutionised your sleep or you meditate before bed to stop you overthinking and worrying about things? Do you avoid certain things like coffee or eating late at night or maybe you have a particular hot drink or music to listen to that works a treat?

My top tip is that if you can't sleep get out of bed and read a book for 10 minutes or so, staying put and tossing and turning is the worst bit

Funny how many people would have a night time routine for their babies/kids, but wouldn't think it could benefit adults too!

I often have a long warm bath in the evenings to help relax.
Then without fail I have a mug of herbal tea- I call it my 'sleepy tea' as I often pick out the blends designed for evenings and read in bed for a while before turning out the lights :)

I try not to look at my phone before bed, have a totally black room and sticking to a routine.

I use a rain sound app which really helps. I also sleep much better with the window open and a very cool room. I have blackout blinds but do leave the hall light on for the children. Good quality bed linen also seems to help and a decent light weight duvet. A good mattress is also a must.

No particular winding down routine, but I like to have a fairly cool and dark room, heavy cotton bedlinen and cotton pyjamas. I read until my eyes start closing, but it only usually takes about 15 minutes. I don't drink any caffeine after 1pm (I am very sensitive to caffeine and have real trouble sleeping if i do). When sleeping somewhere unfamiliar (e.g. a hotel) I usually bring ear plugs and an eye mask, but i don't use these at home.

Don't use anything too bright before bed, it won't help you sleep....

much as I love to read before bed I risk getting overinvolved in the plot. These days I do simple jigsaws on my tablet to help my brain turn off before sleep.

Going to bed at the same time every night, in a cool, dark room with a window open for ventilation. Combined with a snugly electric blanket and soft over blanket help me to drift off peacefully.

It's a cliche, but I like a warm cosy bed and a cold bedroom.
All the lights have to be out for me to fall asleep.
I am trying to kick the habit of looking at my phone before I settle, but do find it helpful to offload any lingering tasks onto my 'to do' list in notes on my phone, so I don't worry about them overnight.
On a different note, I try to have a really big wee before bed so I don't wake up to go in the night!

A good bedtime routine. darkness and a blackout blind come in handy in the summer too. we do bath, story then bed and it seems to work

No particular routine, but sometimes like to read before sleeping and like the room dark when I sleep.

I would read a book before I go to sleep to stimulate a deep sleep

I use an eye-mask and ear plugs. Helps me fall asleep quite quickly.

I don't struggle to sleep very often, I do sleep better when my partner is in bed but as we have a 3 month old, usually as soon as my head hits the pillow I'm asleep!

I have found that having a shower before bed, blending some essential oils and having them on my bedside table, having latex pillows and high thread count Egyptian cotton sheets all help me to get an excellent sleep. I also have the window open ever so slightly and the radiator off and need my bedroom to be tidy. I usually have some rainfall playing on YouTube which really helps me to drift off.

Latex pillows are a must in our house. They are expensive but they last for years and years.

I've never mastered the art of a good night sleep for myself but seem to have done better for the kids.
Our eldest (9) is perpetually hot, we have individual room thermostats so his is always set lower than the rest of the bedrooms and his duvet is only a 4tog which he has in winter and a thin cotton blanket in summer and he just wears pj bottoms - since we've made these changes he has slept so much better. He reads before bed which you have to keep an eye on because if he likes something it's hard to get him to stop! But otherwise puts himself to bed at 7.30/8 and gets up at 6 on his own.
DS2 is more like me and is forever cold so his room is warmer and he wears a vest with his pjs. He has a story, bottle and then goes to bed generally without argument. He's generally a good sleeper although we still have the odd early morning start.

Nice warm bath, chamonmile tea and relax in bed with no TV, tablet, phone (blue light) for a good half an hour before drifting off to the land of nod!

Well made bed frame
Top of the range mattress
Enough bedding to share, so kingsize for normal double, super king for king
Well made bed, Cotton sheets/duvet and pillowcases
In winter, warm bath/shower before and hot water bottle in bed. In summer cool shower, fan.
Fresh air
No electronic glow in bedroom
Both ears under bedclothes
Children asleep, having had bedtime stories and lullabies, with blackout interlinked curtains/blinds
Dog asleep or silent in basket, having been trained,
Peace, perfect peace.

No matter the weather having the window open just a tiny bit always gets us a good sleep, sounds crazy but this works well for us.

I always use a sleep spray, and spend half an hour phone-free before bed, reading a book to relax!

I sing nursery rhymes in my head to focus on and stop the day's pressures and reminders from waking me up!

I listen to a guided meditation on YouTube on my phone. It chills me out, and it obviously works as I never listen to the end of it 😴

We always have the window slightly open so to allow some fresh air into the bedroom, I think it really helps to sleep better. I don't like a hot stuffy bedroom.

No caffeine after lunchtime, no screens for a couple of hours before bedtime, a nice warm bath - and then snuggle up Wink
