Everyone has different styles when it comes to decorating the house for Christmas; some of us have our go-to decorations while others like to mix it up with different themes each year. Homebase would like to know what your plans are for decorating your home this year and what decorations you like from their website.

Here’s what Homebase has to say: “At Homebase we have everything you need to make your Christmas sparkle, from trees and baubles, to giant inflatables and twinkly lights. Click here to check out our Christmas range and please share your favourite decorations below.”

To get you in the mood, here's some tips on decorating your tree:

So whether you’re a tinsel and fairy light lover, prefer a real or a fake tree, or even fake snow!, please share how you are going to decorate your home this Christmas below. Everyone who posts on the thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Homebase have some great trees this year!

misskatamari · 20/11/2017 20:59

Pink tree and lots of random decorations here. The tackier the better is our Christmas motto :) and this year we’ll be doing lots of Christmas crafting with the kids, making things to hang up through the house and in the windows.

littleme96 · 20/11/2017 21:00

We always have a fake tree with clear sparkly lights - and lots of them! We tend to go for a red and gold theme with natural accents.

I really like this - www.homebase.co.uk/gold-mercury-glass-onion-bauble_p447548

towser44 · 20/11/2017 21:07

Real tree, which we get from the garden centre where the OH works. Hopefully this years will actually fit in the house! Last years was like the one off Royle Family where it was taller than the ceiling!

Sezza110 · 20/11/2017 21:07

Lights around the outside door frame.

Mozarmstrong · 20/11/2017 21:14

Fibre optic tree is amazing. I love bits all around in any colour come on its glitz and Christmas tinsel. It's magical so let's just get in there.

Jade5093 · 20/11/2017 21:19

My tree gets filled with homemade decorations and "my 1st Xmas" decorations saved. It's tac but meaningful 🤣

rosie154 · 20/11/2017 21:20

I love to get all the old fashioned decorations down from the loft, so many memories to rediscover.

Spices001 · 20/11/2017 21:27

We have a huge tree , too big for the living room really, lots of lights everywhere & too many Christmas ornaments, love it!

LeeR1985 · 20/11/2017 21:29

I let my 8 year old decide how the room is going to look. I'm not fussed how silly or 'messy' it looks. Christmas is more for the kids than the adults and its more fun for her to decorate. We have a fake tree and she covers everything in tinsel!

lhlee62 · 20/11/2017 21:31

No tinsel in my house, I like a red and gold theme on a green tree

katslo4 · 20/11/2017 21:45

A large real tree with lights and special baubles which we have collected over the years. A few homemade crochet garlands I have made.

Love the 24 Inch Holly and Berry Pre-Lit Wreath and the6ft Green Alaska Artificial Christmas Tree from Homebase.

itsali · 20/11/2017 21:46

I like traditional decorations and golden lights. I would choose the gold glass onion tree decoration as it looks like one to keep and the light up house to add cosy lighting in the lounge.

honeyandginger48 · 20/11/2017 21:50

We always have a real tree decorated with our mish mash of colourful decorations collected over the years. I love getting the box of decorations out of the attic and rediscovering them each year.

Shireslass · 20/11/2017 22:08

This is our first Christmas with our daughter and so for the first time as a family we will have proper Christmas decorations.
We have asked grandparents to buy decorations for the tree which we can pass on to our daughter when she is grown up.
We are hoping for a real tree! Not looking forward to the mess.

beckyinman · 20/11/2017 22:13

We don't do much because everyone tends to decamp to my mum's but she has a tree in the living room, one in the conservatory and then each room has a different colour theme of decorations. My dad says he is going to divorce her if she buys anymore and I'm only 75% sure he is joking!

dul4hw · 20/11/2017 22:14

I usually let my 2 boys take over so all I know is there will be lots of things hung in random places and plenty of tinsel.

GingerKitCat · 20/11/2017 22:21

I tend to keep the tree to a gold/cream theme with a little bit of red Smile

I have enough decorations thus limit myself to just a couple of new ones every year.

This permits me to splash out on the more expensive baubles Grin It's lovely unpacking them all at the start of December and finding special ones you'd forgotten existed!

I seem to have inadvertently developed a bird theme so I'm always on the lookout for a good bird decoration Grin

I love these porcelain ones from Homebase:

birds

and these pearl baubles!

Door wreaths are really popular in my town and I'm going to join in this year ha!

Homebase have such a great selection. I might have to go for this one:

snowy wreath

Last but not least I shall be paying some attention to my neglected mantelpiece. I can't see any garlands on the Homebase website so far (only wreaths) but I'm really hoping I can get my hands on a pre-lit garland to drape festively over the mantel!

Merry Christmas!

compy99 · 20/11/2017 22:21

we are having a minimal look this year, gold and purple tree

pfcpompeysarah · 20/11/2017 22:25

I have a fair amount of fairy lights around the house all year round but we put more up at xmas time, we have 2 fake trees, one in each lounge. We literally cover them in tinsel and each has a different colour scheme, as well as that we put paper chains up on the walls and put decorations on the window... although this year we have a new kitty who is currently 10 weeks old so I might have to tone it down a bit this year as I have a feeling it won't survive (the decorated tree that is, not the cat!!).

Marg2k8 · 20/11/2017 22:28

We will have an artificial Christmas tree decorated in a traditional manner.

RACHELSMITH45 · 20/11/2017 22:29

We have an artificial tree but had it years and I'd love a new one.. sadly we never seem to have the money come November!:-( We decorate using lots of things the kids have made as well as a copper/gold theme on the tree - combined with a few of the kids made items!;-) My daughters in the process of making a wreath too so that will be nicely on the door :-)

showmewhatyougot · 20/11/2017 22:44

Real tree, cinnamon sticks, fairy lights, crackling candles, handmade handprint salt dough decorations, garland with frosted berries and fruit up the stairs, huge door wreath, our old huge snow globe that's been handed down from OH Great great nanny!

feeona123 · 20/11/2017 22:45

We usually get our tree from the garden centre in our village and then decorate it with red and silver baubles! Have to hide it in the corner away from the toddlers!!

AuFinch · 20/11/2017 22:49

I love our mix of old and inherited decorations, we have an artificial tree but its a good one! each year i pick out from the many decorations we have a colour scheme - last year it was pink and purple. For me christmas is the dinner and all the fairy lights twinkling away and I love the old decorations which remind me of different christmas times throughout the years! If i was to choose a new decoration from Homebase I would choose the Light up House Room decoration as years ago i remember as a child visiting someone who had a little light up village displayed for christmas and i thought it was wonderful!
