Our home will be decorated for Christmas with a mismatch of old and new decorations.

It's a joint effort with my husband and family, and we always choose a real tree as I think the scent of pine symbolises the festive season.

Along with the old favourites found in the loft, the gaudy tinsel and baubles, and fairy with tattered wings, we buy a few new decorations to replace those that have become broken.

Homebase have a great selection this year, and I love the range of bright coloured Christmas LED lights - a necessary replacement for our old set which no longer work.

The Forest Fruits twig wreath is also lovely, and the prices for decorations at Homebase are very reasonable, considering how many years they last.

A range of different decorations, lots made by the children scattered around the lounge!

tabbaz123 · 03/12/2017 07:28

I have all the family coming for Christmas, parents and grandparents so we are concentrating on decorating the one room. Real Tree this year and clear baubles with white lights - I try to colour co-ordinate so the table is white and Gold with matching crackers etc

laurapotz · 03/12/2017 07:34

My 4 year old has decorated the tree. Now I just need to rearrange things a bit as most of the decorations are clumped together and there is nothing on the top third!!

allibaby · 03/12/2017 09:23

My tree is a branch picked up from a walk in the woods. I have little woodland animals hanging from it an acorn lights. Underneath I make a little snowy scene with reindeer and a snowman so it looks like the tree is in the woods. It;s very unusual but I love it x

I am considering a fake tree or sorts for the first time, we've always had real before. But if it's going to be fake I want a stylised version, which is proving very hard to find, I have seen metal tree shapes on Pinterest but none to buy! The other option is a wall hung version or half a tree, my son moved back home recently, with all of his belongings so really short of space!!!! I saw just what I was looking for in one shop but it was their bauble display stand!

ellie17 · 03/12/2017 10:18

with a silver and purple theme this year, lots of beads and baubles and of course some of the classic ornaments too xx

glmcall123 · 03/12/2017 10:31

As I always do, I will be putting a box of decorations in the middle of the room and letting my DCs loose on them. At the end it will look like I've taken a decoration gun and shot it around the room, oh well, more is more!Xmas Smile

Hubby takes our younger daughter to buy a real tree from the man down the road. We put it in the front of the living room and everyone helps decorate it.

We also have a nativity scene that my grandad made - that's so cute!

nonnyno · 03/12/2017 11:28

Real tree. Lots of coloured lights. Lots of baubles of all sizes and colours. And tinsel. Star on the top, presents underneath.

Mumslet · 03/12/2017 12:33

Re-using our two trusty beautiful artificial trees, but now they and the room are enhanced with strings of low voltage LED lights which give a real seasonal glow.

katieskatie82 · 03/12/2017 13:34

we never have real trees. Lat year i bought a pop up christmas tree. Its amazing. It's pre-lit and pre-decorated and takes 2 mins to put together! i have more time then to decorate the rest of the home with lights and paperchains that the kids make x

matphil · 03/12/2017 15:34

I have a fake tree as it's safer with my children. We put lots of tinsel and baubles on as well as crackers and candy canes. It's a pre-lit tree so that saves on the lights. My children always make some decorations themselves each year that go on the tree.

alison991 · 03/12/2017 16:45

A tree, some tinsel and festive lights

myboycraig · 03/12/2017 18:41

Fake tree & flashing lights everywhere..... I Love it!

Tanfastic · 03/12/2017 18:44

We always go for the traditional red and gold and I like a really full tree with lots of baubles and fairy lights. We tend not to bother too much with tinsel but I do love lights and candles. Anything to make the rooms look cosy and Christmassy.

mkinsey · 03/12/2017 18:45

We decorate our tree using different ornaments that we've gained over the years. Some from our childhood still, and others with names on baubles and bought in different countries. We hang Christmas cards on ribbons from the ceiling on the walls as we get so many! And then we have an advent candle on the mantlepiece.

I love the Homebase Forest Fruits Twig Wreath, I like how it's colourful but still natural. I'd love that on our front door :)

Jezzamk · 03/12/2017 18:48

No decorations on the tree as it will have 2 cats in it, seeing who can get nearest the top to be the fairy. It will almost certainly fall over a few times as well.

I am worried that the cats could get caught in the decorations. Therefore my tree will be decorated with 2 tabby & white mogs.

marshgirl · 03/12/2017 20:54

We have a fake tree, twinkling lights, gold, white theme with all my special Disney decorations brought from Disneyworld Florida. I buy everytime I go and the collection is growing.

Jocelynne123 · 03/12/2017 20:57

We usually have a fake tree but have a real one for he first time this year. We always do a red and gold theme. We also collect christmas tree decorations that mean something. Then when we put up the tree we discuss where we got the decoration and the story behind it xx

wef1984 · 03/12/2017 21:12

Fake Tree, snowy with red and gold decorations and a personalised decoration for each of our 4 children. The rest of the room is a mix of lit/singing ornaments or newest addition being a motion sensitive singing reindeer head.

wooohooo · 03/12/2017 21:20

Ive always have a real tree, I dont have many needles as I do what your supposed to do, cut the end off and ut It Into a pot with water In, prefer to go with out If I couldnt have a real one, new PJs for us all too
I will be having a few drinks on Christmas eve as It will be my 50th birthday too, hope I dont have a hangover the next day

piggypoo · 03/12/2017 21:29

We don't do a "theme", we're not that posh! All the bad-taste baubles, egg-box decorations that I made in the 70's while a youngster, the Pat Butcher-style tinsel, the fairy lights that are from the 1950's and still work, the kids' school efforts, all go on display, and we totally LOVE it! Good times!

mamof3boys · 03/12/2017 21:30

I'm quite traditional. I've got a big tree and use loads of lights, and then lots of red and gold baubles. I love my tree as it makes the room all warm and cosy.

MycatsaPirate · 03/12/2017 22:19

We have three trees, one in the living room (silver and blue), a small pre lit one in DD2's room (white and mixed colours) and a red and gold one in the conservatory.

All the decorations have to be non breakable. We have six cats. This is Pixie investigating the tree today!
