Everyone has different styles when it comes to decorating the house for Christmas; some of us have our go-to decorations while others like to mix it up with different themes each year. Homebase would like to know what your plans are for decorating your home this year and what decorations you like from their website.

Here’s what Homebase has to say: “At Homebase we have everything you need to make your Christmas sparkle, from trees and baubles, to giant inflatables and twinkly lights. Click here to check out our Christmas range and please share your favourite decorations below.”

To get you in the mood, here's some tips on decorating your tree:

So whether you’re a tinsel and fairy light lover, prefer a real or a fake tree, or even fake snow!, please share how you are going to decorate your home this Christmas below. Everyone who posts on the thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

This is our first Christmas in a house (before we were squished in a tiny flat). We normally have a real tree with a mish mash of decorations. This year I'm getting decorations for our staircase and fireplaces, really excited to properly decorate. May even get a wreath for the door

maryandbuzz1 · 20/11/2017 17:55

We always choose a real tree and decorate it together. This meant when my son was young the decorations would be very haphazard much to my husbands dismay!
We always use wooden decorations which I bought whilst living in Germany and top it off with white lights..again German.

I used to love a real tree each year when my son was younger, it was a special day going to choose one at the local forest sales place and then attempting to fit it in the car before a lovely afternoon decorating it! Now I have 3 fake trees which I love and I keep them up all year round! I have a really slimline tall one in the kitchen with beautiful autumn style decorations: orange baubles, pine cones, robins, snowflakes and stars. I love it! I also have small ones in the dining room and lounge with baubles and beads to match the colour schemes in those rooms. I have a stupid amount of fairy lights everywhere! I don't actually have any decorating to do for Christmas as its already there!

Always have to have a real tree, the smell just takes me back to my childhood. I like to put up lights everywhere, usually get a bit carried away with it all. Every room has to have some form of decoration and the tackier the better for me! I have no shame.

We always have a real tree and decorate with lots of tinsel and baubles that have been collected over the years. I love Christmas and really enjoy making the house look festive :)

Rosehips · 20/11/2017 18:23

warm white lights outside. real tree with mixed jewel colours. tinsel and tat in kids bedrooms :D

We once had a real tree. It had a knuckle in the trunk, wouldn't fit the stand properly, it leaned precariously in the living room, over the tv, and so we spent the whole festive period holding our breath, waiting for it to fall over. Since then, it's fake all the way, but a quality real looking one. I also have it completely decorated in white and silver, and as its 7 foot tall, it really is the centre piece. We have a few strings of lights in vases, a few wooden shabby chic figures, and once all the cards are up everywhere, strung over doorways, on shelves etc, that's it! Festivities commence!

jwjuliejulie · 20/11/2017 18:32

Masses of fairy lights, a real tree and would really like an angel topper this year! :-)

feefeegabor · 20/11/2017 18:39

I love vintage so we have a vintage 1960s tinsel tree and lots of lovely vintage decs we put up all over the house, together with my daughter's hand-made decorations that come out year after year.

footdust · 20/11/2017 18:40

I have a fake tree covered in lights with lots of Christmas ornaments and soft toys dotted about the house. The only thing I will not tolerate is tinsel - I abhor the stuff!!

FridgeCut · 20/11/2017 18:46

My theme is "Christmas threw up" the more glitter, tinsel and baubles the better.

socat · 20/11/2017 18:47

Couple of artificial trees (one lit with clear LED's and baubels n tinsel on both) Hanging Paper chains and Garlands with dotted tinsel around!

sm2012 · 20/11/2017 18:51

We always get a real tree, part of our Christmas tradition going to choose the tree! Have to have a bit of tinsel as well as lots of fairy lights :)

addverbaan · 20/11/2017 18:57

My tree is full on Disney themed! Every time we go to Disneyland, we buy a couple of disney tree decoations and so now we have the happiest tree there could be :)

sammylea80 · 20/11/2017 19:00

I've only got a small house so I intend to decorate as many rooms as I can. I always have a fake tree although the cats usually destroy it within a week. I love to see silver and red decorations.

bozoandgozo · 20/11/2017 19:00

we usually go all out festive but this year we are going pink with the lights and decorations we await the arrival of our little lady and first born, she is due the 28th december :)

ToucanPlayAtThatGame · 20/11/2017 19:03

This year I’m doing a Christmas in toy land theme, 3rd Christmas for DS1 and first for DS2, so the house is going to be a magical wonderland of toys and figures! We have handmade decorations including hedgehog pine cones and a knitted wonky eyed elf. Tacky singing teddy’s, an abundance of tinsel and fairy lights, 3 trees including my Grandads 30 year old fibre optic number. A beautifully imperfect, Christmas is my goal. Just like I grew up with!

CordeliaScott · 20/11/2017 19:03

I have a huge artificial tree covered in brightly coloured tacky (in a good way) decorations. I don’t really see Christmas as a time to be restrained and tasteful

cocochips · 20/11/2017 19:14

tinsel and fairylights

ChristmasTulip · 20/11/2017 19:15

Oodles of tack and mountains of jolly in the den. I’ve had lots of the tree decorations for nigh on 18years and on close inspection they are a bit knackered Shock

Most recent addition is the ‘Night Before Christmas’ story bear from Homebase.

Not a fan of tacky Xmas decs. I like mine to blend into the colours of the livings room. We have a fake tree which is sparkling purple and all our decorations are light blue and gold and white. Looks lovely when the lights are glowing in the tree.

candlefloozy · 20/11/2017 19:27

I’m moving house so don’t know when our tree will be going up! Which makes me sad. However, when it does go up in the new house, it will have a bit of everything in except tinsel! Can’t stand the stuff!!

ChristmasTulip · 20/11/2017 19:27

But in the lounge there is gold, eau de nil and peacock everywhere and more lights than you can shake a stick at. It’s overkill and I LOVE itGrin

Don’t get me started on the three small trees in the kitchen, the wreaths and garlands in the hallway and the Christmas toilet roll Blush
