I only put up a tree, I don't have time to cover the house with decorations and I am away for most of Christmas anyway.

My tree is covered with a mix of decorations, usually bought in pairs but not always, and some of them go back to my childhood. Since DC were born I always buy decs with the year on, so they can have them one day.

I don't believe in a certain theme, or having to change it every year. I only replace things when necessary.

Gazelda · 30/11/2017 16:39

A mosh-mash of old and new decorations, varying colours and a few examples of my attempts at sophisticated festive pieces. And some school/brownie made crafts that I'm itching to relegate to the spare bedroom. I love twinkly lights, but not a fan of tinsel.
We have a fake tree, which honestly needs renewing this year.

Liquorice13 · 30/11/2017 17:39

Fake tree (but looks real), star on top, clear lights, black, dark pink and plum shiny/matt baubles

1969angep · 30/11/2017 18:35

We have 2 artificial trees this one. The older is Lucas’ tree for him to decorate however he likes (think masses of tinsel and baubles in gold, red and green). The main tree is purples, turquoise and silver. We don’t have decorations on the ceiling etc but do put some lights in the window, one is a Christmas tree and one is Santa 😎

Real tree for the past three years and so glad we did it!! I love our tree and I have always bought just one special ornament every year for the past 30 years. Whenever I go somewhere special even if it is just across the city I try and buy just one unique ornament - spend a bit more than I would usually but in my mind I would like to hand down my hand picked collection to my girls.

Candyperfumegirl · 30/11/2017 20:01

We always buy a fresh tree. We bought new decoration last year so we will be using them again this year too. I like to decorate the dining table too with a festive runner
.

Cintacmrs · 30/11/2017 20:58

Fake tree - and I am not a fan of themed colour- i like colour everywhere ever inch of a room Christmas. I love nativities.

lastkisstoo · 30/11/2017 21:28

I detest tinsel. The kids are allowed it in their rooms but I won't have it anywhere else in the house. It is irrational but there it is.
Our old tree had seen better days so I have just bought a 6ft flocked one. Our fairy lights and decorations are all Xmassy colours, I don't like to stick to one or two, rich jewel colours are my favourite. I also love sleigh bells so a lot of my decorations about the house have them attached, they make a lovely sound whenever anyone moves them x

GetKnitted · 30/11/2017 21:34

We have a select few homemade decorations, a wreath, some felt baubles. They are indestructible and come out year after year, so that we don't have to shell out on new ones all the time.

babyann · 30/11/2017 21:38

I like to put my tree up quite late - otherwise it gets battered. I have a proper 'mum tree' that's covered with homemade decorations or decorations that have been collected, they don't all match and I don't have a particular colour scheme. I love seeing all the lights and decorations people have up and we like to get in the car and travel around the area looking at everyones fab decorations :-)

funkyfreks · 30/11/2017 22:18

Same tree that we've had for 10 years. Decorated with little trinkets that the children have made at nursery and school over the years. Hang christmas pictures drawn by our babies from day dot... wreath on the door and to finish it off and keep the hubby happy some flashing LED lights outside for him to play with.

Ginspiration · 30/11/2017 23:35

I will have my first proper front door this christmas so i want a proper festive wreath! and candle bridges in the windows!

Dangermouse80 · 30/11/2017 23:54

3 trees and lots fairy lights throughout the house. This year my son will be old enough to enjoy putting a train track round the xmas tree. Going to be a lot of homemade decorations this year.

VioletBow · 01/12/2017 00:28

Two 6ft fake trees; one white with white lights in the living room with handmade felt and dried fruit decorations and burlap garlands in place of tinsel with a large burlap ribbon on the top and a red felt and burlap tree skirt. Then some old ornaments such as a large snow globe with angels in on the fireplace which has a handmade red and brown burlap garland and two stockings one for me and one for my daughter. Then a few wooden ornaments dotted about the room.

The hallway and stairs has tinsel around the lights, mistletoe hanging from an archway and an angel mobile on the ceiling.

Then the dining room is a 6ft black tree with multi-coloured lights and decorations and tinsel. Some snowflakes hanging from the ceiling, ornaments on the fireplace and dining room table.

Lastly there will be a small tree in my daughters room with ghastly pink ornaments and some battery operated leds

Every year I say I would like to buy a 7ft real looking green fake tree but as Christmas rolled around each year I have yet been able to afford to buy one

EasterRobin · 01/12/2017 02:08

Fake tree decorated with tinsel. DD (2) wants to make decorations for the house so I'll have to head over to Pinterest for some inspiration. I'm thinking hand made tree ornaments, potato prints, colouring in and festive stickers.

VivienneWestwoodsKnickers · 01/12/2017 06:48

Ooh, some lovely indoor lights there. Apart from the obvious - tree - I like to run strings of lights up the stairs. It casts a lovely glow in the living room, and gives a feeling of warmth to the whole house.

I also have some gifts from friends abroad, including hand stitched table mats which go out in the dining room, along with lots of Christmas table decorations!

labazs · 01/12/2017 07:50

my decorations are ones full of memories bought at various times of my childrens childhoods and now my grandchildrens i buy a new decoration every year but when i do the tree and room the memories flood back

mclarkie · 01/12/2017 09:20

Due to the environmental impact of plastics like tinsel and all the usual Christmas tat you see in the stores. I have moved back to more natural and sustainable decorations like holly and a natural living Xmas tree in a pot

MaroonPencil · 01/12/2017 10:41

Real tree. As big as can fit in thewindow. Absolute mish mash of decs. Kids decorate. Lots of lights. It always looks lovely.

I just bought some little silver birds which are v pretty but I am not sure what to do with them.

papaver · 01/12/2017 11:12

Probably going artificial with the tree this year then lots of pine cones as I can never resist picking them up when out for walks and xmas gives me an excuse for doing that.

emmmaaa26 · 01/12/2017 16:01

I love fairy lights so theres always millions up in our home, also a big fake tree with all the trimmings and christmas cushions.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 01/12/2017 16:19

We will be decorating the same as we usually do - a real tree in the front room, with the decorations I have collected over the years - I add a few new ones each year. There isn’t any one particular style or theme - I love stars, so there are a number of different ones, but apart from that, there is a wide variety of baubles.

I love fairy lights, and have bought a new set this year - 300 warm white LEDs (I don’t like the brilliant white ones, but love the warm white) so those will go on the tree, with some of the others we already have, if needed. Then there will be lots of silver tinsel, on the tree, and round the room - if I have a spare set of lights, I might put them on the mantelpiece, with some tinsel, and two little angels my friend made.

We have glass doors (the sort with small lanes of glass) between the front room and dining room, and the dining room and conservatory, and I blu-tack the Christmas cards to the glass.

Squina1 · 01/12/2017 18:59

We had a complete overhaul last year - out with the old (10 years +) and in with the new. It was the first time we had had a real tree, and are now 'real tree' converts. We also ditched the tinsel for lighty-up thingies, and even ventured into buying a giant reindeer! I'm sure this year will be just as tasteful Grin

biffyboom · 01/12/2017 19:43

We get out all the decs from previous years, throw any broken or tatty ones, then we buy more with ds, as and when we come across ones he likes.

grannybiker · 01/12/2017 21:34

We have some vigorous growth on our holly this year, so we'll add in some yew and other natural materials.
The kids, however, prefer Poundland tat & tinsel, so will be quite a spectacle!
