To get you in the mood, here's some tips on decorating your tree:

So whether you’re a tinsel and fairy light lover, prefer a real or a fake tree, or even fake snow!, please share how you are going to decorate your home this Christmas below. Everyone who posts on the thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Planning?

We have decorated already.
2 trees, finally succumbed to the merits of fake with scented pine sticks, one in the hall way and one in the lounge. A real mix of colour and ornaments collected since we got together. My husband's choices always manage to hide at the back... literally no idea how they get there every year.
Christmas bunting in the lounge and kitchen, light grey with snowflakes in the kitchen, red and gold in the lounge. Fairy lights in kitchen.
Fireplace with a lovely glittery stag and a father christmas.
Outside lights hanging and a laser snowflakes thing in the back garden bouncing off the trees.

It's November and we are go.

We got a new artificial tree last year which is pretty realistic and isn't too big so perfect for our house. We use the same decorations most years, adding a few more each year. It's a silver and lilac theme, plus we have some other lights and decorations around the windows and mantlepiece too.

sarat1 · 27/11/2017 12:12

Love how inviting the 24 inch poinsettia wreath is

InLoveWithLizML · 27/11/2017 12:57

One big tree with tinsel, lights, baubles and a fairy. A smaller tree in the window that has lights built in.

For the first year ever I really want to make an advent wreath. But to me Christmas is its literal meaning not just an excuse to fill a room with presents.

Instead of getting anything to wrap to enter the craziest parent of the year competition we stick to Christmas lists. I draw my own cards, presents for family are bought with them in mind.

This year I want the theme to be more tradition as it's likely the last year DC will believe in the magic. So it's going to be extra special.

ForTheLoveOfSleep · 27/11/2017 13:11

In our house each year the DC choose a theme. Last year it was Father Christmas, this year it's tinsel and we have accumulated over 100m of tinsel in total so far.

Previous years we have had a real tree, however, this year we have purchased a 7ft pre-lit tree for ease. (and so I can use our current tree lights somewhere else in the house).

As for the exterior of the house we stick to warm yellow lights as I think it looks classic and simple.

Theladygardenofeden · 27/11/2017 15:07

Lots and lots and lots of lights plus knitted decorations e.g. mini Christmas jumpers, gloves and hats are going on the tree this year.

DH and I remember our parents ceilings being covered in tinsel and foil decorations when we were small so we've done that this year for our DS. GlitterballGlitterballGlitterball

funnygirlthatbelle · 27/11/2017 15:47

We will be getting a real tree from a Christmas Tree farm.

We don't have a 'theme' as such but I tend to stick to the traditional themed colours - reds, golds and greens.

I love Homebase decorations - most of my icicle lights are from there and I always end up picking up a new Christmassy animal ornament every year! I'm eyeing up this Light Up House Room deocration www.homebase.co.uk/light-up-house-room-decoration_p440688.

ThenBellaDidSomethingVeryKind · 27/11/2017 19:03

We need some new decorations, and more of them, following our house move this year. I like a cosy look, so warm white lights, and fairly rustic decorations. Looking at the Homebase site, I like [[https://www.homebase.co.uk/gold-and-glitter-jingle-bell-tree-decorations-12-pack_p444272 these]]

cheekychicken24 · 27/11/2017 20:43

I like traditional looking decarations, although we can't have a real tree as we have dogs. I have lots of red and green.

Love the Decorated Natural Real Christmas Garland on the Homebase site - would look perfect on my mantelpiece!

mumsbe · 27/11/2017 20:52

We have lots of lights because our children love christmas but we let the children decorate how they want including the tree. It can be very interesting with our 9 year old and our 4 year old who is autistic.

lalalauren416 · 27/11/2017 21:26

Just a tree, with lots of different decorations and a few christmassy candles

sofieellis · 27/11/2017 21:54

We have three trees, one in the lounge, one in the hall and one in the dining room. Our little dog will also be dressed as a Christmas tree - although probably not for very long! I've also bought Christmas bedding and cushions for the first time ever, which I can't wait to put on the bed.

Mallowmarshmallow · 27/11/2017 22:07

We are planning to go all out with a four year old and nearly two year old it's all stations go....!

So, a big tree, ceiling decorations, window stickers in the living room, outdoor lights, homemade hand print wreaths on both of their bedroom doors and fairy lights and mini self-crafted trees for each of their bedrooms.

OhIfIMust · 27/11/2017 22:08

Both big real tree and artificial LED tree for the kids to decorate in the kitchen or playroom, and lots of paper honeycomb globes wrapped around the stair bannisters. Wicker Scandinavian decorations and loads of warm lights... so excited for Christmas already!

MummyL1411 · 27/11/2017 22:32

I used to be a bit of a Scrooge but every year my children get older I get a bit more excited and decorate more. This year I’m planning on making my own bauble wreath for the front door, lots of lights for the children, although I can see my 1 year old climbing the Christmas tree!

inamuddleagain · 27/11/2017 22:40

fake tree, lots of decorations at the front about knee height because the three year old takes charge. lego models and multicoloured but not flashing lights

DuskPanda · 27/11/2017 23:41

Fake tree with built in lights, lots of red and gold baubles with some of the DCs homemade decs. Usually put lights inside bay window but going to go for outside lights this year. Will save the frustration of the window lights falling down every other day!

sunshinewey · 28/11/2017 09:15

Last year i bought some lovely vintage decorations so im looking forward to using those, I try to use lots of lighting all around the house to create such a cosy mood.....many thanks

mumpetuk1 · 28/11/2017 13:23

I like modern so lots of silver and white, fur throws and chunky grey knit cushions.....

Helsbells68 · 28/11/2017 15:04

We do not have enough space for a large tree so have tinsel hanging around the room and rope lights around the windows :)

gemmie797 · 28/11/2017 16:03

I love the 4ft decorative pre lit porch artificial Christmas tree. I really like decorating the whole house and this would be the perfect welcome

ThatsMySantaHisBeardIsSoFluffy · 28/11/2017 17:52

We have our tree, decorated by me. And the kids' tree, which looks like it's been dragged backwards through a Christmas department!

I have lots of twinkly LEDs in various decorations and the rooms look really warm and inviting. I put Christmas blankets on the sofas for colour and warmth.

This year I've got lights along the landing as well (they were going up the stairs until DD got distracted and fell down the last 2, so plans were changed!).

We have a wreath on the front door and a Santa doormat too!

I love Christmas!

This year I plan to let dd (she will be 3 right after xmas) help me decorate the tree. Wish me luck. She's been obsessed with the tree lights since she was born, we have the musical flashing kind. We are starting to decorate this weekend so I can't wait to see her face when we get it all out. She loved the sparkly gold baubles last year. I'm getting rid of all the bows though and updating it a bit. Probably stick to a gold theme. It creates a nice warm feeling.

She's also going to help me with the gingerbread house. I feel like it will be a sloppy Christmas here Grin

Oh and we are also getting a wreath for the door, our first one. I feel all grown up!

Winningbeauty · 28/11/2017 18:16

A big Christmas tree with my green, red and gold baubles, lights on as soon as it get dark so it twinkles in the corner.

Stockings up on the fireplace.

Fire roaring

Christmas wreath on the door.

Mulled wine for guests, homely and warm

73kittycat73 · 28/11/2017 19:09

Tinsel everywhere! Xmas Grin On the tree, around the TV, around the computer monitor and pictures. All along my bookcase and dresser. Multi colour lights on the (Fake.) tree. Ornaments including nutcrackers and snowglobes on the bookcase, dresser, tv unit, and window sill.
Christmas bedding on my bed, Christmas towels in the bathroom. Santa soap dispenser, Santa bath puff. Santa toilet seat cover and pedestal mat.
I like to decorate a bit for Christmas. Xmas Grin
From Homebase I like:

Decorated Winter Garden Real Christmas Wreath - 14 inch
Forest Fruits Twig Wreath
7ft Dark Green Balmoral Artificial Christmas Tree
