To get you in the mood, here's some tips on decorating your tree:

So whether you’re a tinsel and fairy light lover, prefer a real or a fake tree, or even fake snow!, please share how you are going to decorate your home this Christmas below. Everyone who posts on the thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Battery LED lights around everything, including the tv and the barristers.
Our special Christmas ornaments, kept with the decorations in the attic.
Christmas mugs, only used in December each year!
7 feet artificial tree which my OH catches his hand on when setting up each year.
Special decorations bought on holiday in Germany, and in Florida.

The family tree will be traditional - red and gold
The tree in the dining room is a white tree and my little girl will decorate it with homemade decorations, and baubles, pink, blue and silver tinsel and anything else she can create!

Artificial 6ft tree, tons of tinsel, lots of multicoloured flashing lights. Wreath on the door and icicle lights outside

YesILikeItToo · 28/11/2017 20:46

Big real tree. Decorated like my parents did with a mixed shedload of stuff. My mother had a difficult relationship with tinsel, so my innovation on the plan is lametta, which I buy fresh each year. Other than that, I try to increase my collection of coloured fairy lights each time. I’m pretty sorted for other decs - I get some miseltoe and I cut some greens for a wreath, but I don’t go all out like my family did because my husband doesn’t buy in. I might do a new thing with paper balls in the staircase this year, see how that goes. Gently, gently.

We plan on having a slim tree squeezed into the living room decorated in traditional red and gold; a garland over the fireplace; cards across the big mirror on strings; and a wreath on the front door.

From the website my favourites are jingle bell garland, gold glitter snowflake, and traditional Santa tree decorations

fivekidsonemum · 28/11/2017 23:35

Me and the kids have always wanted to make a "Winter Wonderland" with things like Homebase Inflatable Polar Bear Family and Santas sleigh outside then inside I'd have cotton snow covering everything, my windows all snowy and have "Winter Animals" everywhere like your Penquins in scarfs, Large Reindeers & stags etc standing ontop of snowy mountains made from wood, snow spray & cotton wool and your miniature light up village houses so at night we could see the scene. If I had the chance I'd do it as big as possible with lots of mini trees instead of one big one. One day I'll get the chance to get the stuff to do my wonderland idea.
My 5 kids like to do the Xmas tree alone so every year we have bright mixed colours of decorations like Homebase Hanging Candycane Tree Decorations and they pile so many decorations and tinsel on each branch you can't even see the lights Grin but that's what it's all about - making my 5 kids happy at Xmas time even if they wanted a stick tree to decorate I'd let them !

I've just ordered our tree - a Norway spruce about 8ft which will go in the hallway / staircase area of our house. It'll be decorated with warm white led fairy lights and a selection of old and new decorations in traditional (red, green, gold) colours along with ornaments the kids have made over the years including little clay Holly leaves and paper snowmen.

I like to do a little arrangement at the front door under the porch. I've got some old Dutch strawberry crates that I set up like a stand with miniature potted Christmas trees, battery waterproof fairy lights and little red candle lanterns I bought in Norway.

The front door gets a real foliage wreath (bought) that I add battery fairy lights, dried orange slices and little sprays of pheasant feathers to.

In the kitchen, the kitchen island will have another vintage wooden crate with 3 or 4 poinsettias in. A red faux cranberry wreath on the kitchen door and a bunch of real mistletoe above the door 😊. Some prepared hyacinth bulbs I planted in September should be flowering on the windowsill.

Can't wait for the tree to arrive so I can get started!

Plenty of lights, a few santa's placed around the house, of course the beautiful christmas tree with the angel on top and many more decorations spread out.

JazzAnnNonMouse · 29/11/2017 05:42

We do quite traditional so red and gold in the living room (we'd have a real tree too but we have 3 small kids 2 dogs and a cat) i like vintage/homemade style in there.
In the dining room we have a white tree that is much more modern in style and that's where the kids get to put all their lovely (hideous!) Decorations too.

I love the willow tree skirt from your website and what good value the tinsel is

Rainybohoho · 29/11/2017 07:45

I have huge windows in my house so I thread baubles through ribbon and make a kind of curtain of baubles for each window (looks better than it sounds) 😂

YesILikeItToo · 29/11/2017 08:48

oh, hyacinths! Reminds me of my grandpa, missfoxy he was in charge of those - he took me each year to some greenhouse somewhere that did charitable work employing disabled people potting hyacinths for Christmas. Never occurred to me I could do my own! I’ll maybe try it next year.

Time4adrink · 29/11/2017 10:16

Real tree, decorated by the children with a bit of tidying afterwards. Old favourites plus a few new things every year. All the cards up. Lots of Tinsel and fairy lights. Candles. Door wreath.

Time4adrink · 29/11/2017 10:17

Oh and snowflakes on the windows

keenoonvino · 29/11/2017 16:44

Real tree, with red and gold decorations and a nice mix of homemade by the kids and bought ones. Rest of the house decorated with bits I’ve picked up over the years from various countries and shops. Love getting out the decorations every year, it’s like a trip down Christmas memory lane!!!

KnottedAnchorChief · 29/11/2017 17:10

I always make a massive xmas wreath for the front door. I use holly and ivy from the garden, bits of fir tree and then add sparkle and berries. it's in a special ring that keeps it alive and green over the holidays. I love coming back after being at work and seeing it looking fab and festive to welcome me home.

vickyors · 29/11/2017 17:52

We have a (not real) tree, presents and we have some fairy lights. We out presents under the tree and I have cinnamon sticks soaked in mulled wine on the tree- makes the house smell delicious!

mynellie · 29/11/2017 18:38

we have a fake tree and i stick to a colour scheme of red & white with tinsel and also lights as they have the same effect of a real flame fire i just like to watch them

Stephgr8 · 29/11/2017 19:34

Real tree with home-made baubles inherited from the in-laws and lights from Homebase

Ak13zd03 · 29/11/2017 19:36

Well first of all my house is literally like Santa's grotto and my decorations are up from the first week in November. Each room is decorated and all colour coordinated with each rooms interior. I have 3 trees one black fibre optic in living room with silver and white decorations lots of lights and lanterns, polar bears and penguins. I have a green small tree outside front door with matching reef on door. Have magical lights and gingerbread decorations in hall way and my children have a white tree in there room. Christmas is the most magical time of the year for me

Tigger83 · 29/11/2017 20:19

Got to be a real tree www.homebase.co.uk/cut-nordman-fir-real-christmas-tree-6-7ft_p344785 always a nordman! We bought ours the first week they came in and it's been sat outside in a bucket of water ready to come in on the 1st

We love to decorate outside www.homebase.co.uk/300-bright-white-led-christmas-icicle-lights_p470249 and these look beautiful!!

Would love some of these for the garden too www.homebase.co.uk/warm-white-led-grazing-reindeer-silhouette-light_p470329 maybe next year.

I'm also going to make a ring to go over the table to hang from the light instead of using a table dec so will be using some of the fine wire lights, the fake garland and some baubles wish me luck.

sandy31 · 29/11/2017 23:56

Every year we change the colour scheme on our artificial tree, probably all gold this year. The rest of the house will be the same.

dkb15164 · 30/11/2017 08:37

My partner and I have a little fake white Christmas tree with black tinsel as our flats quite small. Our lights are the flashing coloured ones that brighten it up and while we have nice baubles, we actually have a Homer Simpson car air freshener at the top of it as a wee inside joke of the year we couldn't find a star in any of the stores to put on top of the tree. We put red and green tinsel on top of the picture frames around the flat and we have our little snowman candle holder on our coffee table lest anybody forget ''tis the season.

Sammyislost · 30/11/2017 10:38

It's always exactly the same in my house. The tinsel is getting a bit tatty, and the tree has no theme (although lots of character! chameleon in a dress on anyone else's tree?)

So we have tinsel with baubles on the stair case, around the doors and on picture frames. Lots of smaller decorations on window sills and shelves. The tree in the corner by the window.

I love Christmas!

SuzCG · 30/11/2017 10:43

Jingle, our 'Elf' is arriving tonight, as always - but I have just been out and bought an elf door to decorate the fireplace with as his route in and out. So exciting!

SillyMoomin · 30/11/2017 12:04

I'm going natural this year- lots and LOTS of oven dried slices of oranges and lemons, cinnamon stick bundles, cloves stuck in grapefruits, twines and brown paper and subtle tones of bronze baubles.

Warm LED lights, on a soft fade, and holly everywhere for green and warmth.

Can't wait, the decorations go up this weekend!!!!!
